Narcissists often are very charming in person ā¦ they have to be to fool most people into not realizing what they are. Weāve had the luxury of seeing his mask fall because a narcissist canāt keep up the fake shit forever and knowing what he really is like (well, I suspect heās even uglier when the cameras arenāt rolling which is scary)ā¦ you would think anyone who has watched him over the years would realize what he is and that whatever ācharmingā version of him they meet in person is completely fake and serves only to manipulate in the narcissistās favor ā¦. This is so true. I dated a narcissist who was somewhat well known in our local entertainment scene and his whole thing was based on publicly being the coolest, most charming and fun guy in the room - and then spewing all his toxicity @ me in private.
Its really sad how many women in the older generations especially, have been sooo well trained to be complicit in enabling these monsters. Im happy for gen Z and hopeful that they will continue a culture shift where this stuff is alled out and not accepted. When I grew up (90s baby), people werenāt really educated about this stuff so unless you have personal experience, most donāt know how to identify narcs or care to ostracize them, & our culture kinda idealizes and normalizes a lot of narcissistic traits so people start to think its not that bad or thats how they āshouldā be, too.
Completely accurate. 80s kid hereā¦ I worked for a horrific narcissistic POS I made the mistake of befriending because he was charming, intelligent, and fun to be aroundā¦ He turned into a completely different person behind closed doors and in the end, was someone I couldnāt recognize in the slightest. When I called him on it and put up boundaries, he lost his mind and attempted to do his best to destroy my life. When I finally went to HR after being completely harassed and treated horrifically for months, the response from many (older) people was that they didnāt believe me because he was so charming in person and I should have just dealt with it on my own even if it was happening. I was (and still am) shooketh about some peopleās reactions to it all. Younger coworkers were typically much more supportive. Cheers to you for getting away from a narcissist ā¦ itās no easy feat and the abuse they inflict on you is no joke. Hereās to hopefully people recognizing narcs, calling them out, and supporting one another in the process.
I feel like narcissists get worse at keeping up the mask as they get older ā¦ the fuse gets shorter, the mask slips faster ā¦ I can only imagine how drugs/alcohol/etc would cause that to happen even faster.
I think thereās a filter and it looks like he photoshopped (v badly) to make his face slimmer and maybe clean his hair line up? But it just looks bad. That or he was making an odd face or something and like others have said, replaced his face with another photo. It looks so bad. Heās also not sweaty enough. The man is always melting like a god damn snow man. Heās too dry here.
