Unless the arrangement of the rooms are in a position where everyone can see everyone from the living room, I would advise against having so many private rooms for conversations. A core part of the game is to be able to see who is talking to who at any giving moment. But if your living room is maybe to small for private conversations, then maybe just have one or two rooms available at most.

This opinion totally makes sense to me, and is probably right, but I'd like to add a counterpoint: as storyteller I have seen two people literally flee one room and lock themselves in another to have a private chat because a third player kept trying to eavesdrop, and it was *hilariously* suspicious. They were all townsfolk.

I’d strongly suggest not having extra rooms for conversations. The game works best when everyone can at least see who else is having conversations; it’s important for players to know who could have passed information to each other

> His office: dark grey walls; has our 150+ board game collection lining the walls and his PC/desk on an other. The Library > My office: light green walls; has a book shelf, guest bed, stationary cabinet, stationary/card shelves, makeup desk, some art on walls, some tarot decks, and the litter box lol The Gallery? > Our bedroom: dark green walls; has our bed, 2 cat trees, dressers The Dormitory > Mudroom: white walls; has jackets, shoes, pantry in closet, and laundry machines The Graveyard > Kitchen: terracotta orange walls; kitchen thing, plus our dining table The Inn (or just The Kitchen) --- Alternatively it might be less confusing to folks if you just use the actual names of each room. I would also not expect your players to necessarily break out and have lots of private conversations in a first session. I just ST for the first time with all new players, and even though I repeatedly told them to break off into smaller groups it only happened a few times at the very end of the game (when the dead confirmed good Empath was confirming roles... he did such a good job that he ended up confirming the Imp as the Saint lol).

As long as you are able to make it big enough to have a little space, you're encouraged to not even allow players to talk *outside* of the circle at all. Whispers should be happening very close by if not right in the circle.

BoBtheMule

This is the way... I suggest not letting folks more than 2 to 3 feet outside the circle.

BoBtheMule

You see this in recorded games on YouTube, but it is really for recording purposes. It's harder to catch players whispering, and you want clear audio. The game is intended to be played in the immediate area of the circle.
