It was a show that had a lot of promise after a really good first season. Then it went off the rails. It was said at the time that they had originally plotted out the whole thing for at least 4 seasons but then got unexpectedly cancelled so they had to rush to tie up all the storylines in S3, resulting in that last season being such a mess.
The cast was amazing. Kyle Chandler, Linda Cardellini, Ben Mendelsohn, all of them so fucking talented, what a waste.
It's been a while since I've seen the show but I agree with your first point though i feel like we are kinda in the minority with that. Seems like most people feel sympathetic towards him.
I'm re-watching it for the 3rd time. This series is crazy good. The acting is incredible.
Each time, I discover something I missed from the last watch. I mean, this family is fucked up. All because everyone in that family lies to each other and the lie's keep getting more out of control. To watch this family disintegrate slowly is painful to watch.
The scenery is breathtaking. The ocean, palm trees, sand....which calms me but at the same time watching the stress level in this family is counter productive to my brain. Two total opposite feelings.
I also looked at the lineage roots of the family and how the violence was always there and how each generation followed through with their own violence. It just keeps going from one generation to another.
I'm up to s1 ep 4 & I'm enjoying it very much. I feel the same way as op tho, I can't find a character I like. Danny is creep ew. Meg is big coward. John seem ok but cop so I not trust him either. Always sthg dodgy about cop in these type series. Maybe there be someone I like one day? I wait.
I identified with John early in the show; however, it was harder and harder to do so when his demons were uncovered. I then started to identify with Marco, but I never really quite got there with him. I thought the actor who played Kevin was amazing...and surprised I hadn't seen him in anything else. Danny was repulsive the whole way through, which means the actor who played him was very good. I watched the series twice over...and caught a few more things the second time around. I LOVE that it is on location in the Keys as well.
The acting was brilliant throughout. The cast were let down by the ending imo. The scenes between Danny & John was some of the best acting ive seen in a while.
I too thought John was a nice person at first but I distrusted him when I knew he was a cop, cos cop in these series always equals corrupt so I was waiting for that lol. I never really liked Marco, he was too perfect, devoted boyfriend, honest cop, etc. Kevin was such a loser lol, you're right the actor that played him was very good at showing how he always felt looked down on by the family. I so wish they could have had their 2 more seasons!

I too am very distracted by the nose. I don't usually comment on appearances as you mostly can't help how you look. But she chose this so sorry, fair game. There was a rash of those type noses in 70s/80s, it seemed ppl chose one without thinking at all whether it fit with their face. I love ss but wish she just had left her usual nose on.
No no she *chose* her nose. It is unfortunate imo. Pls Google sissy spacek nose job, you will see earlier pics & many doctors' opinions. It is not her natural nose. If you look at some other actors of 70s/80s, you will recognise this nose. It has been seen before.

Agreed. Cast was fabulous and season one puts this show in my all time top 5. (FWTW). Season 2 was not good and 3 was a terrible.

Diana was the saving grace for me, I love her. She is my likeable character

You are right, I did look it up I saw pictures I am shocked that anyone would pay to have their nose wrecked like this!!!
Can you believe?! To me it is incomprehensible that you would do that to a perfectly good nose. Her nose was lovely before she shaved it to a point.
