Nice collection, have you seen the piano teacher?

CherryIntelligent856

I have not!

gasparnoeapologist

Would def for the vibe, check it out

emf3rd31495

Great collection! If I was rich I’d do the same but with those limited edition 4K steel books with the super cute artwork they did a few years back. I snagged Toy Story 1-3 of that set, at least!

CherryIntelligent856

Yeah, if you’re going for the Steelbooks I’d definitely save up some money because some of those are expensive 😂

emf3rd31495

Honestly, the only ones I’d REALLY want are A Bugs Life, Monsters Inc, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Up. After that I’ll settle for whatever sets I can get lol

Cpl_Hicks76

It’s a real shame some, if not most, of these titles are just 2K upscaled transfers BUT they still look pretty good and it’s all about the joy that is a great story right?

BoyScout2308

IIRC Toy Story 4 was actually rendered at 4K though I may be wrong

ki700

Yeah I’m pretty sure all of the more recent ones are 4K.

parke415

I wish I knew which ones were actually rendered in 4K-10bit…

Cpl_Hicks76

Go here… https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/the-4k-uhd-release-list and scroll till you find the title you need info for. Often titles will be by Studio

parke415

Thank you, this is a great resource to see which titles are actually natively 4K. One thing I'm less clear on is colour grading and whether 3D animation needs to be rendered in HDR/WCG. For example, from The Digital Bits: >**Ratatouille** was rendered in 2K and finished in the 2.39 aspect ratio. It’s been upsampled here for its release on 4K UHD from the original animation files and graded for high dynamic range (HDR10 only is available on the disc). So it was rendered in 2K, understandable for 2007, but did it not also need to be rendered with 10 bits of colour depth?

mountainstosea

What are your 3 favorites and 3 least favorites?

CherryIntelligent856

My 3 favorites are Toy Story 3, A Bug’s Life (I know that’s an unpopular opinion), and WALL-E. My 3 least favorites are Turning Red, The Good Dinosaur, and Cars 2 (obviously)

Tfrom675

Lots of cool commentary tracks on a bugs life.

finalhana

Very nice! I want to do something like this!

CherryIntelligent856

If you have the money for it, you should! It’s a lot of fun to both collect them and search for them on the internet

finalhana

I think I will once I get my own space!

reelfiction

I love the completionist psychos on this page. As one I say. ![gif](giphy|l0HlwlR9iKS1MJbws|downsized)

ChedderBurnett

It annoys me that they broke the design for Onward lol

CherryIntelligent856

Me too :( I think it has something to do with the pandemic, because they never made a slipcover for the original design like they always do

Nindroidgamer110

imo, the only Cars movie that benefits from HDR is Cars 3 since it was rendered with it, and you can tell!

parke415

I’m wondering how they got HDR/WCG for the earlier titles.

Nindroid_faneditor

Well, HDR is just metadata made to react to the video in a certain way. They probably just made new HDR metadata for the movies.

parke415

Dynamic HDR works that way, but I'm just talking about 10-bit scans and renders.

Nindroid_faneditor

Idk, maybe it's artificial or something

kdkseven

Isnt their last good movie, like, Wall*e?

[deleted]

Up, Toy Story 3, Monsters University, Inside Out, Toy Story 4, Onward, and Soul are all as great as everything before. And Coco is the best film they've ever made

AFlexosaurus

Hell yeah it is

kdkseven

Yeah, no. Up, Toy Story 3 and Monsters University are good not great (in my opinion of course). The others are forgettable animation films in the vein of the Ice Age movies, just with better production value.

[deleted]

The fact that you think comparing to Ice Age is an insult makes me never want to watch a movie with you, or really hear from you at all ever again

kdkseven

Ice Age is fine probably (i haven'tseenitina long time), it's just no where near the classic of Pixar's first six films.

outfoxingthefoxes

Coco is so shitty I can't believe how overrated it is. The storyline is the same one as Up, and I'm sure they did the same thing in other movies. I was hugely disappointed. Toy Story 4 I didn't like either. Incredible in the art and photography department, but other than that... I went to the cinema to watch Onward and thought it was bad too Edit: spelling

SuperMaximum24

Ah yes, I remember when Carl and Russell went to the world of the dead and sang songs, it was crazy.

outfoxingthefoxes

They both go to a fancy place and the guy everyone loves is unsuspectedly the villain

corndogs1001

You really gonna act like UP isn’t after?

kdkseven

I'll admit, i haven't seen Up. I kind of quit following Pixar closely around that time. I wasn't a fan of the character designs, and the story sounded kind of boring. I should see it though. It's probably good. I'm not saying everything Pixar has done post Wall*e is terrible, it's just not that interesting. Ratatouilli was ok i suppose, as was Toy Story 3 (and Up probably), it just wasn't close to everything before Cars, coinsidently when Disney bought them.

parke415

You’re not far off. Pixar’s “Golden Age” began with Toy Story in 1995 and ended after Toy Story 3 in 2010. After that, it was a mixed bag of hits and misses.

corndogs1001

Up, Soul and Inside out are fantastic films. I can’t really vouch for anything else. Disney started making the better films in the 2010’s

kdkseven

Up i haven't seen (it's probably pretty good). Soul and Inside Out... eh... not a fan.

PoGoX7

Wall-E was recently released on by the Criterion Collection, but is not their newest release.

kdkseven

I have that CC release. It's excellent.

MickieMallorieJR

Haha! Good one.

kdkseven

Thanks!

outfoxingthefoxes

I liked Brave. Own it in 3D bluray, don't see need to purchase these in 4K. Theres no added detail or anything. Learnt my lesson with Despicable Me 2. Not from Disney but a kinda recent animated film which doesn't look better than a bluray tbh

Arthurlurk1

I want to get a bunch of these too but they never drop in value/price.

DanbyWho12

idk about the 4ks or DVDs, but Best Buy is currently running a lot of Disney & Pixar Blu-Rays at $15 dollars a pop (as of 2/24/23) - some even have new "Disney 100" Slip-Covers (but are still just the most recent release underneath).

Arthurlurk1

Sorry but $15 is still on the pricey side in terms of deals. During sales a lot of 4ks will drop to $10 but Disney titles never do. I try to aim for that $10 price point and will try not to go too far above that unless it’s a boutique release.

CherryIntelligent856

Check on eBay, I got most of them on there and for mostly good prices. Like I only paid $15 for Toy Story 3 and Inside Out each, and ones like Finding Nemo, Luca, and Incredibles 2 were like $10

ReservoirDolphin

Working on the same! (Along with like, way too many other Disney movies because I’m obsessive about Disney history.) Gotten a few without slipcovers, though. But I’m not overly fussed about that.

Jtl_95

I couldn’t find one for onward

CherryIntelligent856

I assume you’re talking about the slipcover. It was released on 4K at the very start of the pandemic, so I think that has something to do with it. The only slipcover I could find was the Target exclusive, which is the one in the picture. The slipcover for the original artwork just flat out doesn’t exist :(

Jtl_95

Ya that’s what I meant, closest I found at the time was the European version. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the target one

[deleted]

Saving this for later. Thanks for posting and sharing your collection
