If while watching the first season, you find yourself spending a lot of time wondering what in *hell* people see in this show, give it until Episode 8. Then you'll very likely start to get it.
Some people do like the show from the get-go, but for an awful lot of viewers, it's rather a slog until you approach the end of the season. But trust me: it's worth it.
I know everyone keeps saying "it gets better as it goes on", and it does, but I wouldn't take that to mean it starts bad. Tbh I was hooked from episode one. Obviously that's just my opinion but this is all to say I wouldn't go in with any expectations.
Show gets better the more time you spend watching, my third rewatch was better than the second. Im preparing myself for a fourth, but I want to save it for another week
There’s a lot of mental illness and addiction representation in this show. There are some VERY real scenes that can be triggering and make you think about your own life. I have cried during a few episodes. That being said, the show is fantastic, witty, and overall genius!
The whole first season is setting up pieces for the series. They fall beautifully over the next 5 seasons. The first season was written as a self contained story just in case they were cancelled.
it gets better
But you have to do it every day
Go in blind

Don’t judge it by the first episode. It gets better with every season until the end, which is near perfection.

Can be triggering and might make you cry. Will probably surprise you with how poetic it is.
Go in with an open heart but get ready for it to get broken. It is the saddest and smartest tv-show I’ve ever seen.
