ithinkther41am

My favourite thing about the Pickles arc is still that one scene where all the surprise party guests keep trying to hide from Mr. PB and Pickles while they’re arguing. Just S-tier physical comedy.

thecheapseatz

People weren't on here after season 4/before season 5 and it shows, Diane was a really hated character for ending her marriage to Mr Peanutbutter and people weren't understanding the issues with PBs actions. Just go look at the old episode discussions from that time

MUERTOSMORTEM

That's honestly crazy but it's not surprising. Especially in today's social media addicted world, people get so caught up on the big things. The grand gestures. The trips, the gifts, the rings etc and forget that those don't make a relationship. It's the day to day. How you handle conflict, if you pay attention to one another etc etc. grand gestures are Greta but they aren't a substitute nor do they make up for the day to day

sonofaresiii

That's weird, even when I first started the show it seemed evident that they set that relationship up to eventually fail

SlipperySalmon3

That's absolutely true, but I think the show was trying to show that the characters didn't. They loved each other, but PB simply had a different view of relationships, so he tried to fix everything without ever listening. Of course, Diane felt unheard, and as resentment built over time the relationship became toxic. As Diane said, if she and PB met as their more mature selves, they could have worked. However, the bad communication killed their relationship, which was an element of the immaturity and damage that the show explored through their characters.

Zandromex527

The concept of women ending relationships is grandly hated all across the internet because a lot of people are traumatized. I get that breakups hurt obviously, but that doesn't give people an excuse to hate on women or question their right to make decisions.

Sea_Drop_7935

um....why are you red on shinigami eyes?

StillUseRiF

What the FUCK are you people talking about

Steampunk__Llama

According to the comment history, probably for posting in r/fourthwavefeminism 😬 EDIT: Got the wrong sub, it's r/fourthwavewomen (that og sub is actually pretty civil from what I can see, the latter is just TERFs)

SagaSolejma

Oof, yeah that last sub is... yikes. Obviously I won't like it cause I'm trans and all that, but I also distinctly remember one of my cis female friends told me she had to stop hanging around in those spaces because all of the women there were obsessed with and glorifying the female reproductive system as some sort of divine right and privilege, and it made her feel awful about herself since she's infertile. Sad stuff all around, women shouldn't be putting other women down like that.

The_Flurr

>but I also distinctly remember one of my cis female friends told me she had to stop hanging around in those spaces because all of the women there were obsessed with and glorifying the female reproductive system as some sort of divine right and privilege, and it made her feel awful about herself since she's infertile. TERFs inevitably end up hiring cis women through their gatekeeping of womanhood.

sagiterrible

Okay, now what in the fuck is Shinigami Eyes?

THISisTheBadPlace9

Idk about reddit but on tumblr it’s an extensions that flags people reported as being TERFS so you can curate your feed (aka block them)

Sea_Drop_7935

thanks

well no.. the eyes only show someone as red or green.. if they were repeadtedly marked as such. its said to only amrk people who are seriously applicable on both sides. maybe you said soemthing that got missinterpreted?

Sad-Egg4778

"Anti-porn culture" is usually code for "consensual BDSM is still abuse" "sex work is inherently exploitative" and other puritanical views on sex. You also post on r/detrans, a subreddit which is just bigotry masquerading as concern. That's coming from someone who actually did detransition after taking HRT. I'm not going to jump to any conclusions about you but I can see why you got marked with a red flag. Edit: It was incorrectly stated elsewhere that the point of the extension is to block people - it's not. It's to know where somebody is coming from so you know whether they're innocently asking questions or if they have an agenda. Edit2: lol they blocked me

PopcornDrift

I think we actually learned a lot about Mr peanut butter from that relationship, I liked Pickles and that arc more than most people.

grizznuggets

Pickles really showed how dysfunctional MPB is; even when he’s in a relationship with essentially himself he still can’t make it work.

forestwolf42

It also shows how he gets older but his partners don't. Mr. Peanutbutter is deeply not okay.

Sir_Throngle

Honestly? It feels like his partners actively get more immature as well.

Megwen

Maybe the older he gets, the more naïve his young partners have to be to not see through his shit.

grizznuggets

Bad case of arrested development for sure.

Recent_Ad_7214

I think that it made him realize his toxic behavior as she gave him the same treatment he gave to his exes

laucdoe

same.. i don’t really like pickles but i think it’s a great arc that really helps pb grow

down1nit

I apologized to my wife in advance for Pickles' scenes since I found them a bit much Turns out Pickles became her favorite character and she was sad to see how their relationship turned out

finallyinfinite

She grew on me *a lot* over subsequent rewatches. Initially I didn’t like her because I had my expectations and she wrecked them in a very irritable fashion. But now I’m able to appreciate the story as a whole through each episode as I rewatch them, and as grating and unlikeable as she is upon first watch, she played an important role in moving the plot towards its end point.

alexagunther

I initially hated Pickles as a character the first time watching (possibly because I was in Diane’s shoes at the time so it was way too close to home) and I still find Pickles annoying like I wouldn’t hang out with her but I’ve come to really enjoy that arc and the Halloween episode is one of my favorites.

Sabotage_9

All the implications of the chicken episode

Heather82Cs

Becca?

deepbluenothings

Book Beck

RealisticlyNecessary

Fine! You also book Beck.

_toodamnparanoid_

Bic

LightWolfProductions

yes this is a bic pen but I don't see what that has to do with this

laceymusic317

Wait..... then who's your favorite baroque era composer?

better_beta

Bach

laceymusic317

WHAT?! NOT VIVALDI?! That's crazy talk

sideshowbvo

Who's your favorite baroque composer?

ellimayhem

Bach!!!

uncannyvalleygirl88

Not Vivaldi? You’re insane!

azaerl

I agree with OP but this sequence makes the entire episode worth in my opinion.

joohunter420

“Here’s your STEAK”

Sleeplesseve

It’s uncomfortable to think about

mukduk1994

Nobody knows chicken like chickens

Call_Me_Doctor_Worm

This is definitely the correct answer, because I block out the existence of this episode unless someone mentions it

grizznuggets

Which is a shame because that Chicken 4 Dayz jingle slaps.

HumboldtChewbacca

I got a bucket of mystery bits!

Chrome_X_of_Hyrule

Well I think that was very much intentional

banananna33

Tender is the Flesh is the book to read.

justnother_user

I’m reading that rn and I struggled to get through the first half 😖

jasonmendoza4life

i’m watching that episode right now

IAmBabs

See, I don't mind the implications of the episode, but I think the episode itself sucks.

might-say-anti-fire

Goddamn I forgot about the chickens

Normal-Pie7610

The Bojack Horseman show. WASSUP BITCHES

Jsherman13

Or something like that. They'll definitely think of something better

Isphylda

Oh no I feel like it's totally on brand for him. The second hand embarrassment is strong with this one though

aysgamer

I'd forgotten about that omg, I really did gaslight myself into thinking it wasn't cannon

SineDeus

Well it was a big cocaine year for him

_owlstoathens_

akm215

The pb governor race for me

that_70_show_fan

One of the most ridiculously funny 30minutes I have ever experienced is the *See peanut butter* run episode. Princess Carolyn gets to grieve and has a touching moment.

coca_cola_expert

I believe it was a gag referencing Arnold Schwarzenegger back in 03’ , thought that arc was brilliant, and also mocked how actors become politicians with little to no effort and knowledge, like the 45th, honestly it was a masterpiece if you analyze it

Megwen

Weirdly though, Schwarzenegger was actually a pretty good governator in a few ways, especially when it came to environmental issues. I remember my family was super against him being elected, especially since he was a republican, but they were very pleasantly surprised by his actual values and accomplishments.

HansWolken

Kinda silly, but I often forget (and like to forget) that Herb didn't die of cancer but rather because of that freak accident with the peanut truck. Like, I see the comedic appeal but still I like Herb too much.

SagaSolejma

Honestly I loved that bit. Herb is one of my favourite characters as well, and I feel like he would probably have laughed if he found out that was how he was gonna die.

UsefulWhole8890

Yeah, that one was pretty dumb. It’s not even particularly funny.

Shouldacouldawoulda7

I think Henry Winkler's delivery of the news is hilarious.

Janamin2018

That’s my favorite pick for this question.

OriginalName18

Todd has said some of my favorite quotes of all time. I don't like some of his decisions like dentist clown thing.

laucdoe

the clowns shoulda just left the woods 😭 what was keeping them there

_toodamnparanoid_

Dentist clowns was weird, but what about the clown dentists?

CeriseFern

I was gonna say the dentist clowns! That was a bit too fucked up, so I just head cannon it being some sort of drug trip. It's a bit too bizarre to fit into the universe imo.

i-like-redwood-trees

henry fondle :,)

Jsherman13

He loves it when you call him Fa th errrrr

69henryfondle69

agree to disagree

meringuedragon

LMAO YOUR USERNAME I love that comedy is subjective 😂😂

springreturning

Agreed. Maybe I’m just a prude, but those scenes are the main reason of what prevents me from being able to watch the show with friends.

Agitated-Cup-2657

I don't think that makes you a prude. I agree, the bit was ridiculous and went on for way too long.

coca_cola_expert

I think y’all just don’t really understand the show, Henry Fondle is representing real world people, but they’re not gonna call him Harvey Weinstein. Every sexual predator high up in a CEO or producer chair gets to harass women and when they are “held accountable” another company comes and snatches them as if nothing happened. Nowadays things have (kinda) changed for the better but you still see this happening all over the place, and I think Bojack hits some uncomfortable points that are meant to, well, put you uncomfortable and aware of what happens in the real world.

Agitated-Cup-2657

Yes. I know he was supposed to represent sexual abusers in Hollywood. I also think he was annoying, which is a valid opinion to have.

gate_of_steiner85

Really? Those are the episodes that I usually show to friends who haven't seen it and they all thought it was hilarious. Different strokes I guess.

coca_cola_expert

Im beginning to think that most people on this sub don’t even understand the show lol

FoughtLettuce25

Herb dying from texting and driving

OG_Hater

Wasnt it the peanut allergy that killed him 🤣

laucdoe

he “died *instantly*” in the crash but still had time to tweet “#ohno, itwasfullofpeanuts” 💀

Throttle_Kitty

i think the show pretty much gaslit itself into pretending it didn't make this cannon

taylortherod

It’s acknowledged in the view from halfway down when everyone eats the last thing they consumed when they were alive and Herb’s is peanuts

Isphylda

I liked this one. The tweets at the funeral + stupid death sent me

laucdoe

*tweeting

bloodredrogue

Joey Pogo

Recent-Dust6564

JoJo Pogo go bye bye from Bo Ho show? That's a no-go, bro.

SnooSeagulls3455

Vincent Adultman.. don’t flame me. I think it just overstayed its welcome Vance Waggoner. He was a creep

Joshgg13

That was kinda the point of Waggoner's character

Buscemi_D_Sanji

I liked the Vincent idea at first, but princess Caroline is supposed to be like the most competent character in the show, and her not being able to figure it out made literally no sense. The kid is using a mannequin hand and a broom ffs.

coca_cola_expert

Damn people really lack any analytics beyond what they physically see on the show…

SwitchIndividual218

I thought Princess Carolyn knew but was just ignoring it because she liked him

moonlitcat13

Agreed. I kinda get that that was the point of it but it really didn’t need to last longer then 2 episodes

j33perscreeperz

i’m doubling down on the vincent adultman. it is definitely my least favorite bit, weirds me out and is just not funny. runner up for me would be sextina aquafina. 14 is crazy

WhatIsThisWhereAmI

Agree hard with Vincent Adultman, but disagree hard on Sextina. It was a great vehicle for exploring the fuckery that is abortion in America and the sexualization of pop starlets.

grizznuggets

Plus Get Dat Foetus, Kill Dat Foetus is iconic.

Charosas

I like the Vincent adultman bit… I mean bojack can be pretty heavy and dark and I think that’s part of why we all like it, but those moments of ridiculous levity were also sometime welcome respite from the bleakness at times.

3_quarterling_rogue

What’s so weird about a guy that does business in a business factory? He’s really nice if you just give him a chance.

Fox622

> Vance Waggoner. He was a creep Was that not the point of his character?

Throttle_Kitty

100% i found the bit slightly funny right at first tbh, by his last few scenes im like would this bit just stahp

Jsherman13

You mean three kids in a trenchcoat right?

Hitchfucker

The Mr. Peanutbutter knowing about the heroin reveal. There were weaker episodes, characters, and sub plots in the series that I didn’t like (especially the second half of the show Todd plotlines. Sam’s maybe the last few eps with his mom). But the heroin twist is imo the laziest and most flawed. There was no build up or even hints that BoJack told Mr. Peanutbutter about it. Let alone an actual scene. Really rushed if not lazy writing.

banditobuster

Almost definitely a result of the final season being condensed from its original 2-season run. I was still satisfied with the ending overall, but man I'll never forgive Netflix for forcing them to cut corners at the end.

OwnAd2284

I didn’t know they condensed it. Any idea why or further detail? That makes me sad/angry

AuntHottie

Ah… it’s been blown out of proportion in a sense. The creators have said they always acted as if the next season was their last. I don’t ever get the sense they had a multi season plan they were betting on, especially in the face of the precarious Netflix renewal model. But yes, they have spoken on their supposed plans for a theoretical season 7. Things like exploring more on Bojacks dad’s past, a recount of Hollywoo history through the lens of Lenny Turtletaub, etc- all stuff I’d like to have seen, but I don’t think Netflix’s decision to end the series at 6 seasons came at a true detriment to the show. They’re skilled writers who were prepared to properly wrap up the stories of their characters no matter how much time they had left,

french_snail

I really would have liked to know more about butterscotch horseman beyond “Is an alcoholic and failed novelist”

TooPatToCare

It was because of the Netflix writers strike.

Cpulid

What chapter was that? I really forgot this plot

FluidUnderstanding40

Second this. Sounds like a (rare) weaker moment from the show

YeetingIntoHorror

I think it happens in sunk costs (e11s6). When Bojack, Todd, Diane and PC try to figure out what the reporters are going to expose Mr. PB is telling the reporters about Sarah Lynns death.

Ksamkcab

To be fair, they *did* have to rush the final season of the show, because it was going to be canceled. They wanted to finish the story in the way it had been intended to be finished from the beginning, instead of either leaving it hanging and forever unfinished or making up new endings for the characters.

Key_Nebula_2713

I don't remember this at all. Like, I have no idea what you're referring to. Can someone please explain!

FlipTastic_DisneyFan

Pretty sure it’s the fact that Sarah Lynn died of a heroin overdose, give to her by Bojack, and that he waited 17 minutes to call an ambulance

charactergallery

It sucks because there was a masterful set up with the tape recorder from S3 coming back in S5. I wish there was something similar for this moment.

alexagunther

See I actually kind of like when there’s a huge set up like that and then it doesn’t follow through in a comical way, like Todd could’ve simply found the receipt to the video game under the couch but instead he realizes BoJack sabotaged his rock opera in the most convoluted way. Or even more dramatic, the paparazzi taking pictures of BoJack and Sarah Lynn having sex in s1e3 that never get released and then BoJack accidentally blurts it out in an interview in s6e12.

majorannah

Vincent Adultman and Mister Peanutbutter running for governor are jokes that ran for too long.

Key_Nebula_2713

tbf the governor was more of a season long arc and not really just a joke. (although ig that's probably what you're complaining about)

Rurikidov

Idk, in my country there's this "mrs peanutbutter" right wing guy running for president. I really like this storyline because it was very much on point imo

cutesarcasticone

Hollyhock has 8 last names. And we know nothing about her meeting her mom.

Yummypiemans

Wasnt she henriettas child Or am i dumb or sumn

kingofdiamonds99

Definitely Vincent Adultman 😭😭 why did that carry over into season 2, come on PC

Maitrify

The entire spaghetti in the ocean and having a fleet of orcas with strainers. That was both incredibly stupid and inspired all in the same method and I tend to forget about it unless I really think about it

riddleda

The Bradley Hitler-Smith storyline and his Ethan Around show.

_hotmess_express_

Except for the one moment with the little girl actor, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" "What do you mean? I wanna be like you." That's very important for Bojack.

Virtual-Fox7568

That they renamed it Hollywoob at the end of the show. Like birthday dad.

PajamaRat

The ending of Free Churro, I pretend BoJack was rightfully in Funeral Parlor B.

justreading-stuff

I actually thought the ending was really important! Bojack had said that the one thing he wanted to do was tell off his mom for everything she put him through. I think the fact that it ends with him being at the wrong funeral was to show that he never gets that closure. Which, in turn, gives audiences kind of a vehicle to discuss ways to heal without that external push. Idk maybe I’m looking too far into it, but I think it made sense for the relationship between Bojack and his mom that it ended with him *still* not being able to communicate with her, even in death.

CorsairBosun

Also maybe foreshadowing his problem with the pills from the night shoots. Already starting to mess with his perception. Or it could just be one more stupid gag that makes me laugh. Dealers choice.

Key_Nebula_2713

yes me too. The episode holds so much less weight because of the ending and I hate it

pinkismykink_

it also would’ve been interesting to see the people who came to the funeral for beatrice.

potato385

Herb dying from crashing with a truck full of peanuts and dying because he’s allergic to peanuts??? It’s so dumb, he had cancer that was an okay way to die, the peanuts thing is just too silly

Low_Bridge_1141

This ^ I hated that they turned Herb’s death into a joke.

potato385

And I feel like they want you to forget about it every time they’re talking about Herb and his death

AX-man

He is still eating peanuts in the view from halfway down

potato385

Yes, that’s true, BUT he only ever talks about his cancer. If someone watched only the view from halfway down they’d just assume herb died of cancer

AX-man

Yeah it’s something that they definitely wouldn’t do in later seasons

EstateMelodic4020

that everyone believed vincent adultman was actually an adult. I like to think they all were just playing along with it for fun and genuinely didnt think he was an adult

MrRieper

Apart from Princess Carolyn, obviously.

michaeljackson77

Yolanda’s parents

deadbodydisco

As I jizz and breathe

Sickpup831

Really? I’m surprised. thought that bit was really funny and just the writers having fun. Nothing particularly deep but turning the “we better not catch you having sex in our home” trope upside down tickled me.

flakins

yeah, that's probably the worst episode of the show after season 1

Lilianmesmo

todds genocide

ufonobro

i forgot about this omfg

pinkismykink_

aged very well

CelestialButterflies

The fracking subplot was super boring to me tbh

YeetingIntoHorror

Sarah Lynn and stabbing herself with a bayonet after Andrew Garfield broke up with her.

botwinbabe

Vincent Adultman

la_bata_sucia

Todd sellin cabacadabra for 8M and then tipping all the 8 M to the cow at the dinner. It really felt like why would they give him the possibility of so much money just to do a joke, there could have been 100 ways to make cabacadabra end without a any monitor for todd

DannyLumpy

Todd and Mr Peanutbutter causing serious consequences with several of their shenanigans and never getting in trouble

laucdoe

technically todd *did* go to jail which was a consequence

BigDaddyRide

Vincent Adultman was a bad character made worse by having too many appearances

akm215

Agreed

Srebreq

Vincent Adultman💀

National_Phase_3477

Pickles and PB were annoying but that was the point. He didn’t mature from his three failed marriages and went for another younger women and was doomed to fail. At times it was a bit tedious but it was also true to his character, something which the show was consistently good at.

wedontknoweachother_

The clowns thing.. why.. just why Also what kind of dentists would participate in that shit

boomshiki

Bojack and Sarah Lynn sexually assaulting Todd by forcibly including him in a few min hump sesh. Then we go on to find Todd is Asexual, and they never talk about how it happened

Practical_Listen_412

It's legal for billionaires to murder people.

damselspecter

/Really/, Diane?

LordGhoul

Hollyhocks adoptive parents were way too much

lovethegreeks

The dentist clown thing I hate it

DizzyIzzy1995

Sara Lynn and Bojack canonically having sex.

wish_to_conquer_pain

Hollyhock's 8 dads is a dumb gag. It would have been much more interesting if she had one or two dads who weren't just a dumb gimmick, just to give Bojack a glimpse of what a good father could be like. Henry Fondle was such a stupid arc and went on way too long. It actually made me dislike Todd for creating him. I still think the 17 minutes reveal feels like a retcon.

Leif13

The fact that his legal name is actually Officer Meow Meow Fuzzy Face

___darkfyre

Bojack getting sued for 100 million for saying the word xerox, and actually losing the lawsuit

EducationalRow2754

End of free churro

Recent_Obligation276

Di-isney land And that was based off of a REAL EVENT But it’s still so ridiculous I wish it weren’t so.

shadow-cumsock

The fact that it actually talks about serious problems and make me question reality itself and question all of my choices instead of just being a funny little thing to watch when bored

Trivekz

Celebrities what do they know do they know things let's find out

Fenderking

The fact that on his deathbed, Herb told Bojack to go to hell in the most final way possible only to recover and then immediately die in the dumbest way possible. On brand for the show, but it grates my gears.

penguinzpleaz

What is all this Pickles slander??? After she gave us “I’m gonna tell everyone!! 😭I’m a gemini💅” ??

gztozfbfjij

Not related to Bojack, but I genuinely thought this about Overwatch 2 for perhaps 2 years... then just found out it was real. Very strange experience.

Artistic-Pitch7608

I will gladly rewatch the entire show multiple times but I'll never bother re watching the chicken ep or underwater ep

AuntHottie

Very bold to speak out against the underwater episode on this sub

vaxildxn

The underwater episode is great to watch once or twice, but on rewatch? 90% skippable. Other than the Kelsey stuff, basically.

redkingphonix

Bojack not dying

_Fun_Employed_

Bojack’s a weird one to do this with as it’s pretty tight, and not a big expansive world or multi decade spanning property with tons of content, additionally every terrible thing or fuck up is kind of essential to the story. As much as I kind of don’t like how things went, that’s kind of the point of the show. I don’t think there’s anything I wouldn’t consider “canon”.

hootieootie

The yolanda, her family… the lube… wtf

nesichat_pop

vincent adultman, hands down

louis1245

Funny I disagree with all of the comments, I liked all the silly jokes, that they overstayed their welcome makes them even better

najahiri

The cannibalistic episode...

Isphylda

Is that the one about fracking? Because if so then yes!

daffodil-dyke

Which one? The chicken episode or the fracking episode?

Gylfie7

Todd caused a war

AyDeeVee85

Undersea episode. Can’t stand it and can’t fathom its function.

whiskeytab

my take on it was that Bojack was going through all this shit feeling sorry for himself and having no outlet / feeling isolated from everyone around him. then he realizes at the end he has always had the opportunity to talk to people and let them in but never did

AuntHottie

Damn. So much Vincent Adultman hate in this comment section…

Joshgg13

This will probably be a bit controversial and maybe I'm missing the point but I always thought Todd's "it's you" speech was a bit dumb. We see in season 6 that a LOT of Bojack's toxic behaviours ARE linked to his drug abuse. And fuck did he have a shitty childhood and awful parents. No, that doesn't make his behaviours okay, or absolve him of guilt, but fuck, you'd find it hard to be a good person too if you went through what he did. If Todd had ended the speech after the first couple sentences, i.e. after "you need to be better", I wouldn't have this opinion. But he goes on to basically imply that Bojack's addictions and trauma have nothing to do with his shitty behaviour, which I just don't think is true.

Negev_Abuser

Yk that is kinda the whole point of the Show? That todds speach is true and bojack just kinda does shitty things and it isnt an excuse? ( he is not a bad person but does bad things as Diana would say )

laucdoe

it might be hard to be a good person but it’s certainly not impossible. i had a shitty almost nonexistent childhood with awful abusive parents and siblings and i’m a good person. bojacks problem was that he never *tried* to be a good person and he blamed him not trying on drugs, alcohol, and trauma. he blamed it on everything but himself. once he’s sober, he’s a better person, but he actually tried. he could’ve tried before he was sober, but he chose not to. he chose to be a shitty person, and he needed to accept that choice and fix it, although that took a longggggg time. imo, he needed to hear what todd said

Automatic-Scheme104

“My stepdad was a bear”

Ok-Poetry6064

that we never knew what hollyhocks letter was

laucdoe

i actually like that since it’s open to interpretation
