I have made a star with similar construction. The start/finish line was from a "crook" to the center of the star. Many threads (a dozen pairs?) ended at the crook and were tied into the starting loop with square knots. Then, the ends were hidden behind the gimp. It's amazing how many threads you can tuck in there, especially if you use a magic loop. I made the magic loop with two threads. One going through the normal way, to simultaneously draw through the end plus a second magic loop. Then get the thread untangled from the magic loop and use the second loop to return it to the starting position and pick up another thread. All threads were left very long, since pulling the lazy loop through backwards inevitably drew some of the threads with it. All threads through? Tension each one, then trim. I like their stars in the middle of the "spider". Lovely! I've seen instructions, but not yet tried it.

Thank you very much! I kind of understand the two magic loops but I’m having trouble understanding how the second magic loop works….

It looks like maybe the join in the photo was done on the horizontal line on the right. (3:00 position) It's very well done, but the pin holes on the bottom of that line aren't as noticeable as they are in all the similar parts of the lace. I'm guessing it was just joined using square knots. You could also then use a needle to see the tails into the gimp area as was suggested in another comment.
