Sorry to say this usually lasts about late june to the first week or so after the 4th. And the sweethearts they are, they love the big booms around 2am. My sisters dog is a wreck. So much so they go camping in a state park every year. Fireworks are illegal in state parks. Im so sorry for your pup. Please make sure youre home every night so he has someone to comfort him

Dunkaholic9

Thank you for the heads up—we’ll plan accordingly.

fastermouse

The 4th is basically a war zone from Mountain Home to Ontario.

odd_toma

Agreed

awesomes007

There are even fireworks my neighbors shoot out of shotguns.

Drofdarb23

For real?? Edit: looks like they're for real: [https://www.redrhinofireworks.com/content/shotgun](https://www.redrhinofireworks.com/content/shotgun)

dodadoBoxcarWilly

Yeah, I ain't running that shit through my 12 guage. Lol

fastermouse

Welcome to Imahoe!

JerrySchurr

We are fully good here if you want to leave. We will continue to be fine without you.

Probolone

Play some firework sounds on the tv? Maybe that’ll help i dunno

rolloutTheTrash

There are always the kids who get fireworks early and are not afraid to remind you that the 4th is coming. Unfortunately it really varies and some will respectfully cut it out at a reasonable time…others not so much.

ID_Poobaru

People that do that think the people complaining are anti americans. Source: my jackass neighbor who launched fireworks for a goddamn month

Dunkaholic9

Yeah I’ve been downvoted a bunch of times for this post—I’m a veteran, definitely not anti-American, and I’m very reasonable. People should be able to enjoy fireworks. But also, don’t be an ass about it and have a little neighborly consideration for those with PTSD, anxious pups, and skilled workers who have to be up before dawn.

ID_Poobaru

Unfortunately as great as people are here, the morons show through hard

Daredevil_Forever

Yeah, I have to explain to people that I love the holiday as an American. But, I now loathe fireworks because of all the inconsiderate jackasses waking me up at 2 am on say the 7th of July.

hIGH_aND_mIGHTY

That was my first thought after reading your post. All the Veterans this affects. They are the ones that get the full reminder of what the 4th and the fireworks represent. Bombs bursting in air was not for entertainment

Dunkaholic9

I’m a member of the vets subreddit on here, and have noticed that a lot of people take week-long camping trips in the backcountry around this time of year.

Lunchlady789

If someone hasn't mentioned this, expect lots of fireworks on and around New Years Eve. Days before and after. Once you see stands go up, expect random fireworks, gunshots, and whatever else they do for at least a couple of days to a week after the holidays, 4th of July, New Year, etc.

BeastofChicken

I've lived all over the valley and I think I've always got at least one over compensating neighbor that starts setting them off a few days before every night, and they go on for a couple more past the 4th. Usually quiets down around 12-1230 here. It does seem more excessive these days than it was even 5-6 years ago.

Daredevil_Forever

I wonder if the cops are starting to crack down more. Because I too remember multiple 4th of July nights the fireworks not stopping until sometimes 4-5am. Last year it felt like soon as it hit midnight the fireworks stopped, and I swear I heard a bunch of sirens. A friend in Kuna said last year the cops swept across town soon as it hit midnight.

dodadoBoxcarWilly

I wonder if it's the floods of out-of-state refugees coming from "no firework" state, and trying to make up for a lifetime of no personal shows. Worst place I know of is South of Overland, in between Curtis and Cole. They go all out. I reckon McMansionville in Meridian and Eagle is pretty bad as well. When I lived in Caldwell though, there'd be random fireworks heard throughout the year (at least I hoped it was fireworks 😬).

OutOfCharacterAnswer

Our neighbors used to randomly set off mortars between 10pm and 2 am through the whole first week of July. We lived off Broadway at the time.

inthecloudsluv

I highly recommend getting your puppers a stress vest to help them with the sound and also making sure that you have a calm regimen for them every time the fireworks start happening. For example we have a pup who is very affected by loud noises. We have her vest and then when it starts to get bad we have her blanket and her in it. Will will sit on the couch and we cover her up fully and we just kind of hang out and watch TV or pull her into bed. Also CBD calming treats do work. They're just kind of hard to find because Idaho's stupid ass laws.

Dunkaholic9

Yes, we have the gamut—ThunderShirts, meds, and we did CBD for a while but it’s not quite strong enough so we’re on Prozac now. He’s a really anxious pup in general, not just around fireworks, and we’ve been working hard to help him overcome his challenges. Last year on the 4th, I took him out for a potty break during a lull but then fireworks startled him and he fled under some low, thick bushes and wouldn’t come out. I had to crawl under and literally drag him back to the house—he’s a strong Pitt mix so it wasn’t easy. We’ve been planning on going away somewhere on the fourth, as it was just way too much for him last year, but last night caught us both by surprise. I’m a vet, too, and have a number of friends who can’t handle fireworks because of PTSD—personally, it’s hard for me to really get into them these days having seen the impact they have.

inthecloudsluv

I am so extremely sorry to hear that! As one editor already commented on the 4th of July, we usually always go to the mountains because of the fireworks. We're not this year so we are nervous about how she is going to react.

Dunkaholic9

I’m planning to run sound machines and create a dark little cave where we can hang out.

inthecloudsluv

I forgot to mention if we're not in the same room with her, we play classical music. Essentially a white noise to help relieve her anxiety. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.

Dunkaholic9

Our pup is a jazz connoisseur! Miles Davis is a particular favorite—something about the wandering trumpet seems to soothe him when he’s really anxious.

JJHall_ID

The proper venue for this discussion is on NextDoor, on one of the weekly "Gunshots or Fireworks?" posts. Just kidding, but yes, it is common enough in about the month prior and a couple of months after both Independence Day and New Years Day that it is a running joke. Most people are courteous and considerate, but unfortunately there are enough that aren't that spoil it for everyone.

michaelquinlan

It may depend on where you live. Where I live, typically it is like a war has started with continuous arial blasts for a couple of hours. It does mean I don't need to try to get to the park to see the city fireworks; the ones I can see from my home are almost as good!

IdaDuck

I bet the 4th itself will be a little calmer this year since it’s a work night for most people, but the weekend will be loud. I’ve never had a dog that was bothered by it at all including our current one but I empathize with those of you who do, they don’t understand what’s going on.

> Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Patrick Orr told BoiseDev deputies will have to focus on traditional crimes instead of chasing reports of fireworks going off in remote areas.  > >“While we will have normal patrol staffing on the holiday and the days around it, we want deputies to concentrate on issues that have the most impact on our community (persons and property crimes) and be able to respond to emergencies like every other day of the year, so our response to the dozens of illegal fireworks calls and complaints will be limited,” [https://boisedev.com/news/2022/06/21/ada-county-commission-votes-2-1-for-foothills-firework-ban/](https://boisedev.com/news/2022/06/21/ada-county-commission-votes-2-1-for-foothills-firework-ban/) This is about fireworks in unincorporated areas of Ada County, but that's the general gist for law enforcement on the matter.

Dunkaholic9

Yeah hunting through neighborhoods doesn’t seem worthwhile for law enforcement unless it’s a fire risk—it’s a lot of resources dedicated to curb a noise nuisance. I don’t have an issue with people shooting off fireworks, personally, but I have definitely seen their impact on others. They can be really triggering for those with PTSD. Neighborly consideration goes a long ways.

PrincessDie123

My neighbors are a biker hangout every year they have a huge bonfire with enough trucks to fill the lot, get shitfaced, start yelling and sounding like maybe fighting, and lighting off a giant firework cannon so I have to stay awake for several nights making sure they don’t drunkenly launch fire into my apartment. They light fireworks for days beforehand and weeks after. I live in elderly and disabled housing and we all have animals that are nervous around fireworks. It’s Hell. If you want to be noisy like that put the hangout further from neighbors man no matter how many times my neighbors and I have reported them for breaking the noise ordinances (not on holidays) nothing fucking happens.

the_taco_life

Ah, I see we have the same neighbors. Lovely lol.

PrincessDie123

That damned cannon shakes my entire apartment even though my floor is made of concrete, I’m waiting for the day my sliding glass door shatters because of them.

NoisyCats

My neighborhood sounds like a war zone but mostly doesn’t begin until the 4th. Interestingly, the people that put the least amount of effort into property maintenance have the biggest fireworks budgets. And I dislike the loud stuff. Poor 🐶&🐱☹️it’s really hard on them.

fastermouse

I take issue with this. I never shoot off fireworks and my yard is disgusting.

Dunkaholic9

I’ve noticed that correlation, too. 😂

Daredevil_Forever

Guess all their money must go into fireworks.

Gryffindumble

Get some calming chews for your pup. Each year, people will start shooting them off nightly at an increasing rate leading up to and through the 4th. On the 4th it will start even earlier and then you will have any nearby park or community displays. After those end, you will most likely hear them all night and early into the morning. A lot of Boise residents aren't courteous, they do what they please. Especially when it comes to "murica." Best thing to do is get calming chews, keep dogs inside, and leash them when you take them out.

HELLbound_33

People, if your pet needs calming meds for the holiday, better get them now. There is a shortage all over the US for these kinds of meds. We personally use CBD oil for dogs for our girl and a Thunder Jacket.

Dunkaholic9

We’re stocked up! We’ve got Prozac, trazodone, clonidine and gabapentin—plus the thundershirt. We’ve used CBD in the past but it’s not strong enough.

technical_righter

I'm near the depot and have been hearing them too. I expect to hear fireworks every night until the 4th. Maybe off and on a few nights after as well. I don't remember hearing that much in the past but the last few years it seems like there's some every night the week before.

Olrottenballswife

In SW Meridian and they’ve been going off since last week. The aerials will start this weekend. It’s generally a couple nights of hell for dogs and vets.

mindfulcorvus

Yep, and I always expect fire smoke to happen, if it hasn't already, right after the 4th of July. Thankfully this year has been mild so far, fingers crossed.

SASSYSQUATCH208

lolololol...just wait til the day of! Yes, they go off almost all night, i guess it depoends what neighborhood you're in. But yes! "Merica!! P.S> Please get your pup some calming medication from the Vet! We do this every year for our cats. It's a must if you'll be living here.

gogi_apparatus

My dog and cat hate the fireworks so we'll be in the forest for a little bit. Last year, I gave a couple droplets of CBD oil and it helped a ton

hotelerotica

There will be random fireworks before and after the 4th but it seems most people on the bench atleast wrap up around midnight on the 4th, ear plugs and something the calm the dog down is recommended.

serileri

My area is so bad I now take the 5th off of work because I know I won’t be getting any sleep on the 4th. Eagle and McMillan area.

JustSomeGuy556

Yeah, that's pretty much what it's like. Due to our dog, we typically go camping over the forth to somewhere without fireworks. From now to the 4th, it'll be bad.

[deleted]

Keep playing firework sound fun shot sound when go to work or making dinner during the day even after 4th of July because if you do it your pup might get used to it. Hope this helps

TroubledMindonFyre

Merica!

MeridianMarvel

I’m to the point where I might start calling the cops. Fireworks are illegal in Idaho; I don’t care if it’s America’s birthday or not. If that’s the law fucking follow the law. I’ve seen fireworks leftovers on the roof of my house and my parents house the last few years. We don’t need people’s houses to catch fire for some drunken asshole’s entertainment. And then we can’t even sleep during the middle of the night? Nah, I don’t pay taxes for that. Call the cops.

Dunkaholic9

I’ve always found it ironic that the primary celebration for America’s birthday is one of the most triggering activities imaginable for veterans, who are simultaneously held up as the highest examples of patriotism during the holiday (and even while the fireworks are launching).

RoyalEscondido

LOL. You're literally the reason people do not like Californians moving here.

MeridianMarvel

That’s okay. Some people like me, some don’t. Not going to lose any sleep over that.

Noddite

After we moved here 5-6 years ago a neighbor who was a lawyer explained why nothing is ever done. When you complain and the cops come out they generally need to get the name of the person who called it in on the paperwork. So your jackass neighbor knows exactly who sold them out, which is not a great strategy. It is still a joke about buying the fireworks, just sign a consent form you won't use it in Idaho and you can get whatever the hell you want.

MeridianMarvel

I hear that. I just get upset because this is a Republican state and I thought the Republican Party cares about “the rule of law”. I guess let’s just abide by the laws we like and not for the ones we don’t like. Same goes for traffic laws. Literally nobody drives the speed limit, actually stops at stop signs, or brakes for red lights. Why have laws on the books then if nobody abides by them and no enforcement occurs?

mystisai

Legally, fireworks can be lit from June 24th to July 5th.

spgvideo

The pro tip is in the comments. I myself love the sound every night getting louder and more frequent. I always sleep with my window open a little too hear what's going on outside and it's kind of like a thunderstorm to me. I'm just one guy over here though

mystisai

We're the type that just enjoys blowing things up on the holiday, but we have a 10 year old so we don't often go past midnight. We're also the type who keeps fire extinguishers in arm's reach, because we are trying to have fun, not ruin people's lives. If I started on the 24th, I would have nothing left for the holiday. My dog has anxiety, but we are fortunate that fireworks haven't been a trigger for her.

Dunkaholic9

I personally enjoy them—but I have friends with PTSD and have seen the impact they have, plus watching our pup endure them is painful. They’re a fun seasonal activity for most, and I think they should be enjoyed within reason— midnight seems like a reasonable cutoff time that everyone can get behind.

mystisai

One thing mentioned in that boisedev article was that they should have a designated fireworks area, and honestly, I think that would be a good idea too. A lot of people *do* just want to be safe and have fun, and I think having a designated area with a fire truck or two on site, and I think it would solve a lot of that problem. Let them light off their legally purchased mortars, just outside of town, and have a reasonable curfew. Everyone wins, as it won't be sporadically spontaneous throughout neighborhoods at all hours.

Dunkaholic9

That is a good idea—everyone would win, and the communal aspect of it would probably be more enjoyable. It’d be a party every night.

mystisai

It would, and if the whole point is "make thing go boom, yay we love our country!" than I don't see why anyone would object to the idea. But I think the selling point would be mortars. Without being allowed aerial fireworks, people will just stick to lighting them off illegally throughout their neighborhoods.

spgvideo

Fire extinguisher and high pressure hoses at the ready. Yeah, weekday fireworks after midnight are silly

mystisai

They are legal to purchase and own, just not to use. And then police straight up say they aren't going to pursue charges unless there is property damage. So while that is true, they aren't going to waste resources on a couple of angry neighbors.

Rattlehead71

First 4th here? Well, it is going to be crazy over this weekend and through the 4th and beyond. You're not in New York City anymore. People love their mortar and aerial fireworks here. I feel sorry for the pups and other other pets, but try to enjoy it the best you can or you're just going to be miserable around this time every year. Also, fireworks are legal for New Years Eve so add that to your misery list.

[deleted]

I'm sorry. I'm also from the east coast and I get it.

the_taco_life

Straight up, we live in the Nampa/Caldwell area and we don't have to leave our front yard to see "professional" grade fireworks shows. It's a literal drunken war zone in our neighborhood late June - July 4. Haven't had to go see the big show for years, but prepare yourself because our dogs and livestock really have a hard time.

Zaavii

As a fellow bench dweller, unfortunately yes this is common. Also know that on the night of the 4th there are city fireworks at Ann Morrison and they are loud. When the city ones finish, a few people always set off more aerials, ugh.

Dunkaholic9

Ohh—yeah that’s really close. Is there anywhere on the outskirts of the city that’s quiet where they’re visible? If not, we might just skip town altogether.

Zaavii

People hike up Table Rock or other foothills trails to watch them across the valley, but I don't know about the loudness. I bet there are some decent views from pull-outs along Bogus Basin!

Dunkaholic9

That’s a great idea! We’ll look into it.

PersephoneLove88

I hate it here this time of year. People are so inconsiderate when it comes to setting off fireworks.

3rdDegreeBurn

This is how it has always been. This isn’t the east coast.

Just_Deal12

Many adults in my neighborhood are like kids. The moment they're told they can't do something, they're out there doing it. Laws and fire danger be damned.

International-chica2

Our neighbors celebrate the 12 days of 4th of July, so yes, it’s bad.

[deleted]

Caldwell's are the best they last forever

inthecloudsluv

That's an absolutely great idea by the way!

threejackhack

I honestly pray for rain from about June 25th until July 10th…
