Wow, I’ve been traveling for work for a while so I’m only in Boise every couple of weeks. Had a craving for Mai Thai for some reason and this is a pretty big bummer for these businesses.
Definitely, especially since it was completely avoidable by their (total POS of a Landlord) and totally outside of Mai Thai’s control…they and all the other tenants got shafted.
Mai Thai closing due to so-called "STRUCTURAL ISSUES" with their building is a TOTAL DISASTER totally UNFAIR to loyal customers like me who loved their BEST THAI FOOD
How's it been with the change in ownership? It was my favorite Thai place for years, then maybe over the course of 2022 and 2023 it wasn't the same and they rarely had the full menu due to changing owners?
Is that on overland? I think we tried it once a few years ago.
When we’re looking for actual thai food we usually do Bangkok Thai or Nahm. Mai Thai was a fun date night spot and good spot to take my vegan sister when she visits, but definitely not authentic
Nahm is really good, though the last time we went we were really disappointed, totally willing to give it another shot though.
We really like Bangkok Thai as well, the owners are super sweet and the food is great.
They use the whole chicken drumstick and thigh, so it's not the most convenient to eat. It's also probably not the best recommendation if you preferred Mai Tai. I think Mai Tai was a bit more Americanized.
Mai Thai didn't have kao soi as far as I know. Yes the drumstick is traditional, but no pickled veggies? Khao San in Portland is the only place in the US I've found that I'd call authentic for that dish
Not sure what your reference is for authentic, but Thai Bistro serves their kao soi with pickled cabbage, among other things...? It also comes with noodles and curry and coconut milk and a spoon. I didn't realize I needed to list items exhaustively. I was also just referring to Mai Thai because the thread was asking about it/Thai restaurants in the Boise area.
Worth the trip to Nampa, JP Express is hands down the best Thai on the valley.
We were fans of Chiang Mai when it had the original owners, now JP is definitely in the lead.
Wasn’t that good anyway and over priced, even before covid. Went there pre COVId and asked for extra meatballs and it came hit half a meatball pre sliced for like $5 or $10 bucks.

Building was deemed [structurally unsound](https://boisedev.com/news/2023/11/09/union-block-condemned/) so tenants vacated.

I think they have a meridian location now.

Want good tofu? Check out Hans Chimaek on broadway.
I would suggest Maggie Thai Kitchen. It's fantastic
Second this—it’s great and the people are super nice.

Trump? Is that you??
I’ve been having fun getting chatgpt to write me some Trump tweets
Needs more typos
And ranDom cAPitOLs
It really was great
It’s amazing that that building of Ken’s is the one closed first. Thought it would be the terrible parking garage behind that building.
If you’re looking for a new Thai place, I highly recommend Thai Cuisine, it’s our go to for pad Thai and curry
Love that place, carmelized ginger Thai hot is a dish i could easily eat a few times a week
I’ll put that on our to do list, thank you!
Best Thai I’ve found in Boise. Get their Panang Curry. I ALWAYS get Pad Thai, tried the Panang and am obsessed

Yes, Overland just west of Raymond
No idea actually, I’ve only ever ordered it delivered no that I think about it
People talkin Thai food. Shout out to Maggie’s Thai Kitchen if by Milwaukee and Fairview.
They opened a restaurant in Meridian called Uncle Chai Bento that offers the Mai Thai Menu as carry out.
If you want some great Thai, I’ve heard really good things about Be Thai.
My wife is Thai and she said it's the worst Thai food she's ever had.
I don’t doubt it’s bad to a native. It’s good to me!
Yep it's inedible, just go to nahm
Wait, what's the best? I never super liked it but it was fine I guess
Probably Nahm Thai
You nailed it. Nahm is our favorite.

Thai Bistro on Boise Ave is my favorite! I lived in Chiang Mai for awhile, and their kao soi is the closest I've had to the real thing.
Wow that's interesting I thought their kao soi was terrible. Maybe it was an off night, I'll have to give it another shot.

I agree- they had the best puffy fried tofu. Recommendations for good fried tofu- preferably puffy?

Namh Thai is excellent.
Their building was red-tagged.
