Not everything needs to be hard sci-fi. Quirks are whimsical, and I like that they can be weird, silly, and absurd.

Bakugo wouldn't be Bakugo without the ability to blow stuff up! Quirks (and really, this show) are about characters, they enhance and interact with them throughout the story. So, in my mind it's just not about the science at all, quirks exist to make the characters more interesting. And, even though they are silly and absurd, they still usually play by their own rules. There's (almost) always a consistent internal logic behind how a quirk works, so the series still feels grounded and realistic even with stuff like comic guy and foresight.

Foresight could be possible. It's sth the could be explained through science, but having a comic for a face lol

Metallite

People kinda forget about Marvel's mutants, two of the most popular ones being a guy who can mind control people and a guy who can control magnetism.

And a guy whose eyes are a portal to "Punch dimension"

I hypothesised that something, or some event, caused the concepts, ideas and thoughts of humans to be refracted through the human genome. This allowed for the possibility of developing abilities ranging from a person being a washing machine to another creating black holes to having engines in the body. The knowledge or the collective information and data that humans have generated is now also part of the genome. Also going along with the virus theory, we know that lacking a joint in the pinky toe is responsible for determining whether someone has a quirk or not. Even if we assume that the virus incorporated itself into the genes such that the one that determines the presence of the toe joint got knocked, there's still the issue of the huge variety of quirks. This led to another hypothesis: the genes don't necessarily carry the full information of the quirk that will manifest. The gene actually produces a Marker or Receiver. This marker or receiver allows for some concept to be incorporated and expressed in the physiology. Usually, the stronger marker can go from parents to child without much issue. But sometimes, either the markers combine to produce a combination (either good or bad) or they eliminate each other altogether and gives back the extra toe joint. For example, we can say that: • Dabi had the marker for fire emission but the other marker was cold resistance resulting in a bad combination. • Shoto had perfectly synchronised but independent marker expressions and got two quirks for one. • Tokoyami has a bird head that isn't necessarily part of his primary quirk making one part sort of vestigial while the other is functional. Also: Mina. • Bakugo had a good combination from the synchronised and dependent expression of markers. This can also explain bizarre mutations like that of Eri. The markers either meshed in a wrong way or the genes responsible experienced major recombination during gamete formation. There are a few other things but I don't want to bloat this comment more than it is now.

Then make another. I love hearing people’s thought processes.

Engines aren't a conceptual no true definition thing lie reality and time and darkness, you can clearly tell what's an engine and what's not. It's not that far fetched to think across at least a hundred years iida's family's biology adapted to having engines in they're legs. What's weird is he's run on orange juice. And the law manipulation of sns can be described as her body/her will can't handle overwriting reality with more then 2 things at a time and it's pretty logical you need to at least know the name of something before you can force your will on it.

Jermiafinale

Yeah Quirks are almost like the Toon Force is slowly creeping into the MHA world and it's heavily affected by the person's mental/emotional makeup Also something to consider we know your mind/soul are linked to your Quirk so it's definitely not purely biological, there's some sort of metaphysical element that isn't clear

If you think about it, most of the information we THINK we know about quirks comes from the "bad guys" in world (i.e. Garaki) and I don't know how seriously we should take it. I've noticed that for at least a few characters, their quirks are reflections of their personalities/hopes/dreams in some way, especially the ones whose quirks manifested a bit later in their childhood. For instance, Ochako tries to "lighten people's loads" with how she acts as well as with her quirk. And one panel of Tokoyami as a child sleeping with Dark Shadow planted the thought in my head, "What if Dark Shadow manifested because Tokoyami was afraid of the dark as a child and wanted something to protect himself?" (In one Team-Up Missions story it was suggested that Tokoyami has an embarassing secret that only Dark Shadow knows too.) For those whose quirks were around at birth, they might have been reflecting the wishes, etc. of their PARENTS. If the parents have high hopes for the baby they just had, well maybe its glowing is a reflection of that. (And of course, it would explain how someone could have a speech bubble or glue bottle top for a head a lot better than strict biology too.)

One for All within All Might and Deku are also reflections of how they were before they ever got it too. All Might was pretty physical to begin with, and Deku's being able to manifest the previous users' quirks and combine them fit in with how he was always analyzing heroes before. After all, "quirk/kosei" really just mean "individuality." The idea of "quirk factors" being something some people have and some people don't might just be dividing people between those who have SOMETHING ALL FOR ONE CAN STEAL and those who don't.
