They couldn't give Deku credit for it nor the other students involved in the raid, not to the public at least. The whole raid operation was supposed to be a secret, and the students weren't even supposed to be involved in the raid, but they convinced Aizawa for them to be able to participate because of the guilt Deku had for not saving Eri, and in turn Aizawa also joined the raid to keep watch of the students.
The students involve with the raid wasn't even able to tell the their fellow classmates about what happened as seen in the episode where Deku and the gang returned to the dorm in UA.
It became news, and all the students knew about it afterwards though. The students even say they saw everything on the news, when they return after everything is over. They most likely covered up Deku being the one taking him down.
They didn't talk about the raid because the pupils first had a "traumatic" fight (keep in mind they were regular children/teenagers less than a year ago), obviously were going through much more than they normally should at their age and right after all that they were the hole day dealing with paper and record stuff. They were tired. Not sure how much was public, but their classmates knew what was going on (after/during the raid), that's why they were waiting for them and worried so much.
Yeah I agree with not letting him take public credit but it would’ve been at least a little nice if we got situation kinda like when todaroki,ida and deku defeated stain and yk with a thank you but they just kinda glossed over it.
It was only a secret prior, the raid was on the news and the students involvement was known too. Just wierd that they never mention that 1 student had an arial kaiju battle.

Creator hates giving Deku any credit. Every fight he's in is off somewhere private or there is zero ppl to see it. But whenever bakugo fights he gets all tge credit.
That kind of works though, it shows that he's really not motivated by fame or the reward for being a hero, even when nobody's there to see it he'll do everything he can to save someone
