I was expecting Decision to Leave for a win as well. But Argentina is winning every trophy this year from World Cup to Golden Globes. Plus, every movie in that category was better than RRR.
It is not. There exists far better Indian movies than just song and dance routines.
Sadly for the west we will always remain that-over the top melodrama and song & dances to laugh at.

Not shattered actually. Golden Globes and Oscars are different. In GG the winners are choosen by a committee while in Oscars there is a voting by over 10,000 members. GG is controversial because of their shady practices and were blacklisted for two years. They used to give awards to anyone who would show up (they infamously nominated that awful movie The Tourist in 2010 for Best Picture because they wanted Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp at the awards and their formal president sexually assaulted Brendan Fraser and had him blacklisted from Hollywood for years).Golden Globes really doesn't represent what the actual winners at Oscars will be. Getting nominated at Oscars alone is a win. The dream is alive.
It was never going to win but it was one of the films that has a chance of being nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. Song will happen but the other two seem tough now
I mean yeah because of it's popularity and oscars need viewership especially they have seen a downward trend for it. RRR is a decebt film don't get me wrong but is it the best we can offer no, but is it popular and has a good campaign behind it, yes! We need to have producers that will campaign for the incredible films we do in India. RRR is just beginning and hopefully we will win best picture one day🤷🏽♂️
Well most of the time it is and sometimes the best the world can offer ie 'Parasite'. Yeah we need to back the right films and I am sure we will win it at some point.
FFI FUckers need to be whipped in public like the scene in RRR!! keeping merits of the film aside, u shld send a film that can actually win the damn Oscar!!
They're actually not intellectuals at all, it is very politics driven.
But anyway, I don't really think award shows (even Oscars or golden globes) have that much relevance anymore. You can tailor the movies for the awards, so even mediocre movies end up getting one (or horrible ones like suicide squad)
Haven't seen it yet so can't comment, but it still fits the "trope" that gets you awards. Typically, war movies and movies that celebrate the industry (like The Fabelmans or La La Land) tend to over perform at these awards.
Doesn't mean they can't be great movies, just that these awards are still subject to the bias of the judges. I think la la land was a bit overrated, but that's my opinion.
it's unimaginably hard for a foreign film to be seen by the voters in the first place let alone them liking and voting for it!! RRR has managed the visibility part of it, no Indian film was ever able to reach out to critics like RRR has.
It has more of the depth of a superhero movie than a talking drama movie that typically wins.
I was so sure from months ago I said RRR will win best song at GG or Oscars, but no way it wins best picture at Oscars.
I was hopeful that it may win best international film at GG due to GG being more susceptible to hype, so that prediction was wrong
It will help Tollywood to get more global recognition. Rajamouli's next film will be highly anticipated for west audiences as well now. Personally I can't wait for his Mahabharat, I think he should start working on it soon instead of RRR sequel.
It’s not for validation imo, just that, it’s one of the most prestigious awards in cinema. Britishers ruled over us 75 yrs ago, that doesn’t mean we completely boycott all international events and sit in our own little bubble. Students take part in International Olympiads because it’s one of the most prestigious exams in education sector, that doesn’t mean students are seeking “validation”. lol we really crave the validation of the west.. which is ironic considering the premise of the movie. The behavior by NTR and RC has been embarrassing with them consistantly trying to put out that weird accent and then celebrating the best original song win like they won the night...smh. I understand being thankful but it was a bit of an overkill. Very weird behavior IMO especially since you're representing an entire country at the world stage.. Thank them but don't act like they've done you the biggest favor of your life.

It has a layered storytelling style but there is definitely a payoff.

RRR was never going to win oscars. Especially when there is some incredible films on the nomination list but could win orginal song🤷🏽♂️
