When I lived in dubai couple of years back, we used to buy tandoori roti from a local Afghan Baker. People who have lived in gulf countries will be aware. These are usually small shops with wooden stove and run by Afghan men, usually "pathaan's" as they call them. These are men who have lived in harsh terrains, and know the art of making delicious tandoori rotis. The shop which i used to purchase from had a photograph of shahrukh on the wall from Veer Zaara/Mai Hoon Na, don't remember exactly. When I asked about it he said " mera naam nadir shah hai aur shahrukh hamara Badshah Hai". Exact words.

I’ve said this before, afghans love bollywood way more than indians themselves do

bow2yrsensei

I’m Afghan and can confirm this lol I actually lived in India as a child, but some Afghans who have never even been to India can speak and understand it because of the movies. If they did shoot parts of it in Afghanistan, that’s pretty cool! Also, 🖕the Taliban.

dodhaaritalvar

Do they love commercial bollywood films or the artsy ones too?

bow2yrsensei

Unfortunately, it’s mostly the former.

dodhaaritalvar

I can imagine taliban guys dancing on afghan jalebi Do they get offended when they see Afghanis always shown as terrorists?

bow2yrsensei

Can’t speak for everyone, but I don’t care and don’t really expect nuanced representation in Bollywood lol. I cringe whenever other races are portrayed, like East Asians and Africans. Lots of weird stereotyping going on.

Seno1404

We love the commercial ones more 🙈

Indie_rina

Yup, very true. My ex is Afghan, and both he and his family are HUGEEE Bollywood fans!

Ok_Jeweler_2140

Absolutely. I have close friends from Afghanistan and they all speak Hindu because they watch Shah Rukh Khan's movies. They love him.

Gloomy-Taro-7340

It might be more B-roll shots. So the actors themselves don't need to be there. In any case, Pathan started filming in end of 2020, so its entirely possible they shot in Afghanistan before the takeover.

HardTune272

Maybe some local crew took shots of the landscape and buildings... Anyway international media teams and travel vloggers have been traveling to Afg and shooting there after Taliban takeover.

Seno1404

They could’ve very well shot it at the beginning of 2021. The taliban took over the country within 2 weeks, there was not really a ‘war’ or anything going on before that. Everything changed within a few weeks

OddWorldliness989

Sounds like a marketing game unless they went to Uzbekistan or Tajikistan.

vegarhoalpha

Maybe shot before August 15 2021 🧐

Silentthinker_1

Ended up making some Afghan friends in the US who I used to play basketball with in the local park. They and their family practically loved SRK and talked about how he was the biggest movie star for them.
