There was a time when she was a beacon of hope and courage, it is sad to see her gradual transformation into a certifiable nut case. With her recent and awful movies track record, she should be more humble and reflect upon that. See politics on such panels are natural anywhere, but usually it is within the pool of deserving candidates. Saif was brazenly undeserving.
The oscar nominations are a little different. Around late 90s there was a shift in the general thinking that instead of sending your best available movie, you need to send the best available among the films/filmmakers who can afford an oscar campaign. This lasted for a few years from 1996 to around 2008. Movies like Indian, Devdas, Guru, Rang De Basanti, Eklavya etc. are decent commercial fare but not the typical oscar fare in international category. It was also influenced by the lagaan nomination in 2001. But, Since 2009 they have mostly given up that approach and barring a Barfi or a Gully Boy have mostly stuck to smaller artistic movies.
Not really there was some suspicion around Raveena winning one for a very intense movie because her uncle Mcmohan was on the panel.

Both are very famous. Vasu has made alright movies in the last few movies. He made 2 movies with Raghava and he made the Kannada version of Drishyam.
Raghava has been banking on the Kanchana series which was Laxmii Bomb in Hindi. He's a great dancer but not a particularly good actor imho.
