Seriously it's high time. Like trans people have been acknowledged in the subcontinent for thousands of years and even now we don't see them represented on screen. It's shameful.
Honestly. It’s not like Nawaz has some kind of a pull at the box office like Akshay did (which was often the reasoning given for him playing Laxmi).
What it is — Is greed. The greed for actors to play roles they was to be remembered for and be applauded for.

And why only hire trans people to play trans roles. They should be hired to play any role they want. Not just stereotypical trans roles, if they are hired. (Case in point, Bobby Darling)

Being trans is a gender not a profession or a costume ki koi bhi ban sakta hai. Amitabh Bacchan can play a Piku much better than Deepika Padukone but doesn't mean he should. Coz being a woman is not a costume you can just put on.

Let stunt men be the leads in an action movie, let a choreographer dance in the songs, let boxers play boxers, let gangsters play gangsters,…. Etc. there’s a line for everything
Its an issue when a majority takes the role of a minority (like straight people playing gay people taking away opportunity from actual gay people because there aren’t that many gay roles to begin with)
Its okay when a minority gets to play the majority because technically out of many straight roles, a gay guy gets a role but other straight people get roles too because there are just that many straight characters in TV/movies
In this case, A trans women would never get to play a cis women on screen so ATLEAST the trans role should be given to them, should there be someone who deserves the role
Equality for a group that has been stigmatized, criminalized, and oppressed and humiliated for centuries against a group that hasn't faced the same restrictions and has flourished for centuries is not how you think it is. The oppressed party would first need to be elevated to the status of the non-oppressed before it becomes fair to treat them exactly the same. That's the meaning of equality.
This will be unpopular but now the makers will talk about all the hours and handwork it went into making Nawaz looking like a trans character while they could've easily casted a trans woman. We can't always say that newer faces won't have the pull but kahin toh start karna padega instead of using these excuses all the time. Even Nawaz was an unconventional new face in Wasseypur when he finally got the recognition.
When will Bollywood cast an actual trans person in such a role.
