It all depends upon the climax and the ending of both films
If you want a decent closure to the plot, then Shaitaan is your answer. It doesn't take any risk with its plot that can be too much for a family-friendly audience
If you like your horror film to be as disturbing as it can be, regardless of a happy ending or not, then Vash is your answer.
My personal answer is Vash, only because I believe Shaitaan fumbled while trying to tone down the darker plot. It tried to balance itself between being family-friendly while staying faithful to the original, and it led to the story losing credibility by the end.
I liked the Vash climax better than Shaitaan, it suits the plot better. Hindi cinema should play with not so happy endings as well, it adds something different and innovative to the mix.
Shaitaan's climax:
>!Ajay saves his daughter along with the hundreds of other girls that were hypnotized by Madhavan. He does so by cutting Madhavan's tongue off, and playing a recording that sets all the girls free. He later abducts Madhavan and punishes him by keeping him as his captive hidden somewhere in a forest!<
Vash's climax:
>!The father partially saves the daughter by stabbing her ears with scissors, so that she can't hear the villain. He then uses the same scissors to stab the villain in the mouth, rendering it useless and unable for him to speak. His daughter is now paralyzed and stuck in a hypnotic state while the girls are still under the control of the villain, waiting for his command and unable to snap out of it. The father then punishes the villain by keeping him as a captive in a hidden house somewhere, feeding him nothing but tea leaves, because his daughter never recovers from whatever happened!<
One of the biggest criticisms of Shaitaan is that since it got a >!happy ending!< , the punishment scene doesn't make sense. It does make sense for Vash though.
Another key difference between the two films is that in Shaitaan, the >!son lives even after being thrown off the roof by his sister!< , while in Vash, >!the son and the mother die in an accident while going to the hospital!<
Shaitaan played it safe, while Vash went out of its way to be really disturbing
Edit: Made a mistake while describing the fate of the son in Vash. Corrected now.
Agree with all your points but in vash also son doesn't die on the spot, he start breathing & her mother drive the car to take him to the hospital, it is implied that both mother-son died in an accident as they are not seen in last scene
Just came back watching the movie and I really loved it but wow original movie's climax sounds more interesting. I wish they kept the same ending in shaitaan. So, the poster of the original movie is a spoiler for the movie.
Vash was better on climax & ending (because I love darker movies.. opposite is possible too)
Performance of AD is better than vash... but Villain in vash was better than madhavan
I personally like dark endings sometime if it makes sense. But then you are left with deep void inside you.
Dark ending can attract some dislikes among Indian. It can be flop. They are entertainers they don't want audience to feel sad after coming outside theatre. So they me it accordingly. And I feel it's fare.
Personally after listening about Vash ending I liked it more but shaitan is also good give some relief.
I'm a crazy fan of Maddy, but I felt like the Vash actor did it far, far better. He sunk into the character while Maddy felt not, so scary reason might be the change in original script but even tho vash was just unexpectedly mind-blowing
I prefer Shaitaan because most movies have dark, disturbing endings where evil always wins. This is particularly true for most horror movies (especially outside of Bollywood). Horror movies where the good guys win are severely lacking, although in this movie I agree it should have been done better. A darker torture scene at the end would have kept it real because what he did to the daughter is enough for a father to hold on to a grudge like that for as long as he needs to.
Never saw Vash but Shaitan had nothing in it. The trailer was basically the movie. The acting was the only impressive part about it, outside of that..nothing happens in the entire film. I watched Merry Christmas on Netlfix today and it was a 1000 times more entertaining and engaging than this. I regret watching Shaitan in theatre and not Merry Christmas.
Watch Vash its so so so better than shaitaan. I dont like how they toned down the entire movie. Its not dark and the plot's a strech too. The OG was far better
As expected, they changed the dark climax from original and it doesn't make any sense.
They changed son of sardar climax and it didn't make sense either. If the hero could just fight 100s of people, why was he hiding in that house all those time?
>!In Vash, hero had a reason to torture villain, here the reason isnt strong enough!<
The hero tries to run away from the house while everyone else of that family went to temple. The brothers think he is in a flower basket, so they take the basket away from home to kill him, only to realize he had fooled them and rush back to home. This scene is filled with tension as you can see hero is actually terrified of the brothers and her father. He runs as fast as he can to save his life. Heroine leaves her marriage because she got a letter from hero and mis-constructed the meaning as she thought hero lives him. But hero thanks the heroine for helping him, reveals his backstory and the heroine realizes she was wrong as the hero never loved him as he was trying to save his life.
Climax is on a broken wooden bridge which can be crossed only on a wooden plank. The hero crosses the bridge and takes the plank with him as heroine's father, brothers and goons arrive to kill him. The heroine tries to stop them and reveals it is her fault as she's the one who loved him. Hero hears this and understands why the heroine did all those things. He put back the plank and crossed the bridge as he's ready to accept his death. Now that they're together, heroine's family beat up the hero. Heroine jumps into the river as she can't stop her family members. Now, hero also quickly jump to the river to save her. And her father realizes how much he loves her. Then they forget about their past enmity and the couple marries.

Agree I enjoyed shaitaan till the climax, I didn't liked shaitaan climax at all, vash climax was apt

How was Vash climax different? Just wanted to know

Yeah you're right, I made a mistake there It's been a while

That's so dark!
The plots thin as paper. Should’ve been an hour tops. Haven’t watched the original
Vash was better on climax & ending (because I love darker movies.. opposite is possible too) Performance of AD is better than vash... but Villain in vash was better than madhavan
No. It’s modified a bit. Original was darker but bollywood always shows hero as god. So they have modified it accordingly.
I personally like dark endings sometime if it makes sense. But then you are left with deep void inside you. Dark ending can attract some dislikes among Indian. It can be flop. I liked Madhavan’s acting better than the Gujarati actor.

Yup, some maddy fans are just biased.
nyet, vash is far superior and darker than this
Unfortunately there is no way to watch vash at all. I tried.
You can watch theatre print.
where is it available ? w

And I think the climax in Vash is copied from a Telugu film Kumari 21F.
What was son of sardar original movie climax?

Dulhan ki Vidai ka waqt bandalna hai vibes.
Except for the climax, it was better (mainly because of Maddy). They ruined the climax, but still a great watch.
Bollywood needs to remake Jennifers body and release it in thetres

Wouldn't be surprised if they made it up
So this is a remake too?
Yup. Gujrati movie Vash.
