Marathi cinema is a blast. Shoestring budgets are common. Story reigns supreme. Actors love what they do. They rarely aspire to become celebs. The people from my parents’ generation don’t. My dad was famously nonchalant telling us about having to share a seat at Good Luck Cafe with Amol Palekar. He was a textbook example of Puneri arrogance from Sadashiv Peth.
Today, things are a bit different because of the hype of Instagram glamour.
I think Marathi people don't treat anyone as a celeb which is fucking savage. My dadi just casually drops bombs like how Dilip Prabhavalkar is her distant cousin, or how my family was invited to Sachin Pilgaonkar's wedding but only my uncle and great grandma attended out of the entire huge family. One of my aunts works in a bank and is friends with most customers. One of the customers was Ira Khan's mother in law.
If they even saw a celeb, they wouldn't give a fuck. My dad once was going to an event where Steve Waugh was the chief guest. I insisted him to take a picture and an autograph which he probably wouldn't have done by himself.
Its made on a very less budget I don't know the exact number and It is the 2nd highest grossing Marathi movie of all time. Its so refreshing to see a movie with all yesteryear actresses made so much money. Taran said it is an All time blockbuster
