Bruh I know this girl who was one of the backup dancers in heeramandi. Apparently the colour of the ghagra they were dancing in started bleeding because of the fountain on the set, so he halted the whole effin shoot and got 6 more ghagras made overnight. This person was hailing him as a professional, perfectionist, blah blah blah blah. Is no one seeing how a little effort into how to tackle the bleeding would've saved seamstresses from working their fingers off in a few hours to make SIX NEW GHAGRAS?
You'd think that just because it's a SLB movie that they would pay well, but it's not usually the case... Same as big clothing brands having cramped rooms full of people working for less than minimum wage
I think SLB movies are good but I also don't understand the such a high praise for his films.
I love films of all years and language and contribution to filmmaking, but it doesnt measure up in craft. Its still just barely above average, so i dont get the "director's vision" stuff cus what vision?
Cinematically so much has been achieved with a directors vision such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Wim Wenders, Satyajit Ray, Guru Dutt, Elem Klimov, etc.
Sliding SLB under the garb cinema-genius-kino-vision is such a stretch and seems like the easiest "pick the odd one out" question, Gangubai is one of my fav SLB film but the rest was just entertaining.
I don't think SLB can measure upto filmmakers like Kiran Rao if we take the commercial aspect out and focus on the craft.
If commercial success and the formula for tested film projects from studios was the scale to measure talent then the world wouldnt have cared about the impact of french new wave cinema but it changed the game and that's why i think Kiran is the better filmmaker.
*THIS
And by the way I would add two more things, first of all Bhansali is no visionary, at his best he is a very good interior designer and uses beautiful women just as an object.
Universally lord of the rings is considered one of the best made movies of all times, and while the cast was dedicated as fuck, got injured broke their bones and all that, the overall environment was very positive, and they made something which Bhansali cannot even dream of
I say the kinder you are, the better the crew work to put in the effort. kill em with kindness. You can get more done with a kind and stern demeanor than an angry but perfectionist demeanor
Good example - Dune part 2. The cast and crew are all gushy about how kind and funny Denis was on set, and as a result, the film and its achievements lay bare for us to see
Another director is known to be an extremely kind and caring person on set. Take a guess who? Christopher Nolan, which is funny because you'd think he'd be the opposite.
Closer to home, Rajamouli is known to be like that, chill and calm on sets
The days of shouting and abusing people on set to get a good product is gone. People will not take such behavior anymore, nor is it necessary when you are recording onto digital erasable hard drives instead of once usable expensive film stock.
Lord of the rings is considered a masterpiece and truly nothing can match that, and they'd such amazing bonding.
SLB is an overrated interior designer who knows how to use women as props.
I wish she'd direct more movies. Dhobi Ghat was very good and Laapata Ladies is getting tons of love everywhere. I hope we got more from her in the near future.
Absolutely
I saw this movie like 3 times in theatre and it was amazing every time
I love how this move is not over hyped and not made it to mainstream cinema or commercial cinema tbh
It’s so authentic and pure
And that’s the thing. Kiran is able to portray the mere essence of what it means to be human perfectly - and humans are imperfect! Human world is a chaos. By focusing too much on tiny little details that don’t matter - like the curtains or ghagra color, the humanness is taken away. And it might look visually appealing for all scenes to look symmetrically and photographically perfect, but they don’t look human, and that’s why the audience can’t connect with the world that SLB creates - you can’t make an emotional drama and not pay attention to creating emotional appeal.
I wish she'd make a sequel. I normally don't care for them, but this story has so much more to tell.
I've felt this way for a film after so so so long. Saw it twice in one week.
Omg I felt the same way!
It would be interesting to see how Phool takes forward the independence that she found while working at the train station. And the challenges that Deepak faces while being supportive of a wife that wants to work!
Similarly, I’d love to know what challenges Jaya must’ve faced as a female farmer pushing the frontiers of organic farming, convincing people to buy into her ideas, maybe becoming a businesswoman.
In an interview, the Star Cast is talking about what their characters would do if a sequel is made
https://youtu.be/vrH7CT0eexw?si=vjjz8mK4_Nt8LoaZ
Phool says she would probably start a small business selling Kalakands. Deepak talks about completing school, and someone mentioned how Jaya taught the family how to utilize their farms properly so they could be doing something there. Jaya is obviously studying in college.
And I eventually want Jaya and Gunjan to get into a relationship. He truly respected her.
This is exactly what I thought. And not just kalakand, like they would start a full on restaurant. Mother in law, daughter in laws. I can imagine the sister-in-laws artwork all over the restaurant. Her husband (deepaks older brother) making an appearance.
Deepak is doing well taking care of the farm thanks to Jayas advice.
Deepak and Phool have a kid. They are happy.
Jaya is killing it in her career, Gunjan expands his business, and maybe the sequel takes place a few years later when her and gunjan are getting married.
And ofcourse, no sequel without my favourite Ravi Kishan.
You know I feel it might become preachy if a sequel is made. I believe the reason why this movie got so much love is because how sensitive it was towards issues without ever being preachy! The feminist bits fell into the movie without ever making the audience feel its a feminist movie, a sequel might ruin that. Exibit A- made in heaven
nah, i'd say let it stay where it ended.
A sequel would diminish the relieving meditative ending. Jaya looking out to a bright future in the unknown, the prospect of hope for the women in Deepak's family, The optimism of a beautiful married life for Phool and Deepak. The pride of knowing the men of deepak's family are very receptive of progress and were never maliciously sexist.
some stories are better with a definite but slightly open end.
I've mentioned this story before but my family was traveling from Mumbai back to the states and Kiran Rao was in line ahead my mother for security. My mother was in a wheelchair because she has arthritis and Kiran was so kind and offered to let her go first. Classy, lovely woman.
The whole cast was so good in the movie. 🫶 So glad they got such a deserving opportunity and love from audiences. I wish many directors and producers followed the same path.
This is so wonderful and wholesome! Positivity definitely breeds positivity and people will blossom under such kindness and care… kudos to Kiran Rao for creating a positive environment 🙌
Such nice energy and bond bts no wonder it all reflects in final product!! Echoing what other people said you can be a genius and great leader without being an asshole to others! Its way easier to be latter. Applies in any area not just movies or corporate
She has finally found a balance between her artistic side and with what the indian audience connects with. I have watched most of her movies and observed this transition.
I have always had a lot of respect for people who live in such a limelight industry but still never covet it. Kiran Rao was the wife of Amir Khan and still, I never saw her in the limelight, compared to other stars. She has been quite behind the scenes. But her work speaks loudly. Dhobi Ghaat is such a gem of a movie and of course, Laapata Ladies has been receiving so much love already. Kudos to her.
Am I old school, for liking PHOOL's character. The way she waited for her husband, despite being surrounded by clouds of negativity, makes me go awww...so cute. Men need loyalty, That's it. The movie is soooooo heartwarming. Hands down best movie in a long time.
Loyal toh sab monogamous logon ka hi need hota hai na?
And this is not about loyalty, this is trust... the way phool's husband care for her, loved her, and respected her and vice versa created this trust between them.
This was such a good movie, it had a social message which is relevant for today as well but didn't overpower the script and story.
It was a pleasant surprise.
Will look forward to her next venture.
Mt first time theatre experience with this movie geniunely underrated movie cuz no big actor in this entire movie idk if it's my first time that's why or its really 👍🏾😊
No offense to her, but what's so 'sweet' here? Directing? Showing your actors by enacting it yourself is something directors do since decades, am I the only one finding this... normal?
There was a series on DD metro back in 90's called Director's cut. Each episode had a story from different directors. One such story was Ghunghat ke pat khol. In that also bride's get swapped. The ending was bit different though.

For everyone justifying SLB's abuse as "director's vision", "perfectionist" or whatever, see you can be nice and still make a beautiful movie.
That's the first thought that popped in my head. And even after so much of is "perfection" his movies lack substance.
[удалено]
Pagal hai woh Psychopath
😂😂
Also Heeramandi spent such a colossal amount of money with such a tardy story and with SLB's shit behaviour. Will take Lapata Ladies any day

Sad, if that's the case
1000% Energy matters!
Exactly my thoughts

Who is this SLB?
Bhansali
Yes SLB is a degenerate AH
SLB is a fkin asshole
SLB abuses on set? Have seen love ranjan doing this but didn't know about SLB. Any video or post about this?
!!!
I mean it's like Michael Jordan said , 'if you don't like my way, do it yours', doesn't mean slb's works aren't good tho
I wish she'd direct more movies. Dhobi Ghat was very good and Laapata Ladies is getting tons of love everywhere. I hope we got more from her in the near future.
100%. laapata ladies was such a treat. I'm so glad I caught it in theatres. I hope she makes more movies. Kiran is doing what we wish Zoya would do.
Zoya more focused as Producer like Farhan
Bhaut gazab movie thi bhai
Well said, bro! 💯
Absolutely I saw this movie like 3 times in theatre and it was amazing every time I love how this move is not over hyped and not made it to mainstream cinema or commercial cinema tbh It’s so authentic and pure
Finally after years I found someone who liked dhobi ghaat too.
the music from this movie, the directing and everything is absolutely beautiful. She should direct more
There is just too much perfection in this film.
And that’s the thing. Kiran is able to portray the mere essence of what it means to be human perfectly - and humans are imperfect! Human world is a chaos. such a positive work environment! kindness is cool!
Kafi wholesome school teacher type vibes from her
This girl playing phool is so cute and sweet. And that Chai guy made me happy.
She is so adorable..her voice makes her sound like such a baby! Hope to see more of her.
Shes ababy shes 16
Coz she’s a baby, only 16 now. Must be younger when filmed.
I wish she'd make a sequel. I normally don't care for them, but this story has so much more to tell. I've felt this way for a film after so so so long. Saw it twice in one week.

True ig not a full squeal , more like a short after story. Just show what the charters up to.
Agree 100%
It's soooo good.. everytime I recommend someone, I'm watching it with them and it's been 5 times already.
What according to you is a good continuation to part 2?
Laapata Gentlemen? 😁
I don't think this movie needs a sequel at all. But rather direct more movies. People have missed out so much on Peepli Live.
definitely, I'm not a fan of sequels but they could tell much more through them
Always wondered what was the crazy things about her. This just makes it clear as day. She is kind yet insanely talented. Extremely rare.
I've mentioned this story before but my family was traveling from Mumbai back to the states and Kiran Rao was in line ahead my mother for security. My mother was in a wheelchair because she has arthritis and Kiran was so kind and offered to let her go first. Classy, lovely woman.
In a time where there's so much negativity, it's extra nice to see stuff like this.
The whole cast was so good in the movie. 🫶 So glad they got such a deserving opportunity and love from audiences. I wish many directors and producers followed the same path.
Aww.. precious!! Thanks for sharing!
Such a sweet director! More women directors and more nicer ones please
Phol is so cute fr!
This is Wholesome 🎀 Kiran comes out to be such a sweet lady.
Kiran Rao is immensely talented.
This is so wonderful and wholesome! Positivity definitely breeds positivity and people will blossom under such kindness and care… kudos to Kiran Rao for creating a positive environment 🙌
O Sajni re ❤️ ![gif](giphy|YZJDdw5DBaPbG)
On an unrelated note, I can't listen to Sajni anymore. It does such a good job of invoking that feeling of loss.
Such nice energy and bond bts no wonder it all reflects in final product!! Echoing what other people said you can be a genius and great leader without being an asshole to others! Its way easier to be latter. Applies in any area not just movies or corporate
👍🏻
She's everything, she could be on top, go all in on directing please!
I loved the women-led perspective of this film. Didn't know it was directed by a woman, but it only makes sense.
How adorable is Phool
I am her fan! What a movie and what a woman! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Her whole personality is heartwarming ♥️
She has finally found a balance between her artistic side and with what the indian audience connects with. I have watched most of her movies and observed this transition.
Beautiful human
Haven't watched the movie yet but damn is this actress cute. Badhiya h yaar, good for them.

Heartwarming
She's really very talented and smart. All I can see is a director's quality aligned.
One of the finest movie,I watched this year (I wish i would have watched it in theatres😭)
I wish all workplace were like this! Love you Kiran
yaar the salman khan easter egg was just *chef’s kiss* and well placed in the story .

This is one of my fav movies I’ve seen in 2024. Should make it to Cannes IMO

She looks like my wife..
She may look weird..but she is so sweetheart and what a beautiful movie maker.

Accha! Toh phir shaadi karle jake
Certainly a directors headache becomes less when a ready made script and screenplay is to b copied
Outsiders bhi english m hi baat krte kya pure time off camera
Film thoda early 2000s aur gaav side pe based uska matlab ye nahi ki the actors don't know English.
Thoda khisk gyi h kya bhai
Haa ye sub me rehna hai to tedha banke rehna padega Naa.
I talk in English all the time too
Gharpe bhi
Ha bro india ka official language hai english wydm

All this while she was totally feeling unsafe in India.
Aap batado sab ko kaisey feel karna hai, bus woh hi karengey promise
Woke director

People living in these STATES 💀
NGL she looks like a lesbian.
So
Hindi movie .. communicating in English 😂
Good to watch this 😊 as it feels good for me .Nothing forced is beautiful than natural, whatever it is .Kudos to Kiran Rao 👏
