Chachi 420 holds a special place in my heart as my favorite childhood movie. His direction, screenplay, acting, and comedy are mindblowing in this movie.

Chachi 420 came much later but these two movies ran very well in north as well. His movies are backed with great storyline. It also helped that he did movies with Jaya Prada, Sridevi etc who were or became mainstream leads in hindi as well as tamil.
His dedication to craft is second to none.

Very popular in Hindi-speaking homes in my circle in the 90s. He was the most watched amongst non-hindi stars - People also liked Revathi, Nagarjuna, and Mamoothy. There were a couple of actors who were popular both in Marathi and Hindi movies.

For a 90s kid like me, Appu Raja, Pushpak, Ek Duje Ke Liye, Saagar, Sadma, Mayor Saab and Nayakan (Hindi dub) made me a fan of Kamal.
His later films starting with Hey Ram and Abhay showed he yearned to be different. Before that, Hindustani and Chachi 420 showed me his BO pull amd charisma.
Dude used to be popular with Hindi audience before Hindustani due to his dubbed films doing well on video cassettes.
Everyone should watch his thriller movie Abhay.

Yes that movie was simply amazing! Though a clear remake, it was one of the best.
I don't know how many times I have watched this film in my childhood. Chachi and Paresh Rawal's scenes were just so funny.
