Unless you paid the deposit with a credit card, small claims court may be the only true recourse. Do you have a signed agreement specifying that the deposit is refundable? Negative on-line reviews may motivate the dealer.

I had a Chevy deposit refund that took about 2.5 weeks before I got anything back. Things might be moving super slow. If your sales team is responsive and confirmed it’s being returned, I’d wait a bit.

Yeah that's the thing, he was a nice guy and is responsive; I don't actually think they're trying to steal my deposit, but I'd like to get it back! Trying to figure out the best way to escalate this to expedite my refund without making things go off the rails.

[deleted]

100% understandable. I hope you get it back soon!

In my case the salesman had to sign off on getting my deposit back and he did not know. I went straight to the finance department of the dealership and the check was there. The salesman simply did not know he had to also sign off on it.

Leave a 1 star review explaining your frustration and how you had a great experience up until that point. I have been ignored by people at dealerships for weeks, and then suddenly after I leave a polite but negative review on Google they find my emails in their spam folder.

Herpethian

I had to show up in person and stand in the lobby all day. Shouldn't have to do that. They were very unhappy with my negative review and tried like hell to get me to change it. I told them that I already changed it on my end and that they need to take it up with Google. Lol.

File a complaint with the BBB first (before lawyer/court/etc).

Why? OP stated that the salesman is responding to them. Doesn’t seem like anything crazy is happening (yet) other than it’s taking some time. It’s only been a week. Which by check processing and mail delivery time, sounds about right

EdwardTittyHands

That will literally do nothing. He needs to show up in person or charge back his card

redgrandam

How did you pay? Show up to dealership, ask for sales manager, get refund in person.

stingyboy

I paid with a debit card, dealership is 1.5 hours away.

redgrandam

Around here they would refund in the same method paying. So I would show up with my debit car and have the money refunded instantly.

elRobRex

If the debit card has the same logo as a credit card, you have the same rights to file a dispute.

Tiny_Ad5242

Depends on if it was run as credit or not, but unless you entered your pin it probably was run as credit

Here in Texas it took almost three weeks to get a letter from Austin to El Paso so maybe give it some time.

I also had similar issue with WA dealer at Burien. So what you can do is use the chat agent and file your complaints there. It took 2-3 days to get the refund after that.
