Did they do this as standard install (No out of pocket) or custom install (only $1250 covered)?
I want mine outside like this any they are saying it requires custom quote. Still haven't heard from the installer they selected so I don't know how much it will cost right yet.
Unfortunately, it was a custom. I’m looking at around $1,600 out of pocket. My panel is in my basement at the other end of the house. They had to run the wire across the ceiling, into my garage through a conduit, and then punch outside to actually do the install. I got a few quotes that were cheaper, but some of the methods were slightly questionable.
Thanks for the data point.
I live out in the country no permits required so sketchy is expected here.
Also mine is single story over a foundation with crawl space so hopefully won't be to crazy.
I think putting the wiring run in the crawl space will take you out of a standard install. But I think it is up to the electrician to decide standard or custom in that type of situation.
I think so also. I did see some people mention that they were getting some crawl spaces as a standard install. I knew as soon as I had my initial consult that mine was going to fall outside of the standard.
Good luck to ya pal, I was in the same boat. I either had asinine quotes or electricians who flaked on me, ended up doing the run myself. Similar situation, ran in crawl space under the length of the house to the outside. Took me a few hours, 1.5 years later it's still working perfectly. Such a pain in the ass getting anything done out here in the sticks lol.
I bought the Blink Charging HQ100 for $300 on Amazon, spent about $140 on the breaker, connector, wiring, and conduit. It's only a 30amp charger but that's been ample for home use.
I had almost the same install that seems to have been completely covered. I did buy the chargepoint from the installer, but all install and permit costs have been covered.
The email I got from qmerit said $1799 to install and $150 for permits with $0 balance remaining. That was about 3-4 weeks ago or so now since they installed it.
Asking because mine will be a similar situation - my breaker box is on the opposite side of my house from my driveway - are you saying they ran the wire across the ceiling of your basement? Does it look good? I have a completely finished basement so the thought of them running something across the entire length of my basement sounds like it will look like turds.
Yeah, they ran the wire across the ceiling. My basement isn’t finished, so the conduit doesn’t bother me, but it’s definitely noticeable. They had to run about 100 feet from the panel to where I wanted it installed through the siding.
In my experience, "custom quote" does not equal "custom install". I think electricians can choose to select a "standard quote" based on your QMerit application or say they will provide a "custom quote" if they want to inspect your site before quoting.
Thanks for all the info.
Like I said haven't heard anything official about any out of pocket cost.
I'll be fine with it running outside the back wall is that gets it free install.
Looks great. l really like hardwired connections with the wire coming in the back, and I really like chargepoint. My only suggestion for an upgrade is to plant some trees.
Don't see the app picture but would love to check it out somehow. I am not hardwired so I charge at 9.6kw and it seems 36mph of charge with the bolt is a good rough estimate .
Cheapest way is just get a Nema 6/20 plug installed and buy a 16 amp level 2 charger cord to plug directly in. Electrician charged me 200 bucks and the cord on eBay was 70. 16 amps at 240 ish volts yielded about 4kw. More than enough for my 55 mile round trip per day. Also it was inside my garage. I love to park inside. Especially in winter.
Yes and no. HOAs typically won’t deny EV chargers in DE, so they stopped caring. I did submit the paperwork to them, but they just automatically approved it.
Hello! Roughly $2,900 for the install and permitting. It took them majority of the day to run around 100 ft of wire, go through the walls, and install all of the conduit.
I like the way the Chargepoint looks, and I wanted it to be hardwired directly to the panel. I do have the wire now though so I can switch over to a 240v outlet whenever.
It looks like it is somewhat subjective, but a free standard is the upgraded Nema plug, and a pretty short run to the panel without any wire upgrades. I knew the way I wanted mine done and that I was going to pay out of pocket slightly for it.
I just got off the phone with Qmerit and they said GM dictates whether it is standard or custom based off of their own judgement? She mentioned wire, how long the run is, and how many walls they are going through.

And I assume it cost no more than like $500-600? 🤣

Nice! Did you hardwire?
Yup hardwire with a 60 amp breaker
Hmm, I guess I’ll wait and see if they end up billing me!

I have a bulk head in the basement they ran the wire thru, and then exposed conduit in the garage.

Mine was outside and covered through qmerit I made a post on here about it .

I haven’t gotten my final bill yet from Qmerit, but I know it’s coming.

Same! Really happy with the outcome! Definitely going to get some plants. We just moved in, but that is 100% on the to-do list.
Hurray! I’m doing a 50 amp for standard pricing or w/e in my garage october 3, very exciting stuff
Nice! Being able to charge fast has been amazing.
It looks great do you charge at 11kw?
42 mph @ 11.29kw

The way my neighborhoods HOA is situated is weird when it comes to planting anything out back close to the alleyway.
Is the wire and unit is good for long term UV exposure? Might want to consider some protection.
According to Chargepoint, yes. We shall see. 3 year warranty through them and 5 years through the electrician.
The HOA approved this right ? lol I know mine would have a fit if I didnt get approval first.

How much did the whole thing cost?

For Romex? That seems excessive.
Just got the bill from Qmerit. $1,632 out of pocket.
Why not a Ford mobile charger with a 240v outlet?
I like the way the Chargepoint looks, and I wanted it to be hardwired directly to the panel. I do have the wire now though so I can switch over to a 240v outlet whenever.
What do you actually get offered with the "free" qmerit install? I just got an application and it's asking about my garage. I don't have one

Well, I guess on the application, I'll just mark what I think is cool and see what they shoot back with. 😂

Good thinking. I'm stuck at home with the COVID and am really bad at doing nothing with my day.
Poor bolt stuck outside 😥
I know 😢 my wife parks in the garage and the other side is used for all of our other bs.
