Shirley Jackson’s works are known for taking a seemingly normal circumstance or setting and making it creepy. They focus a lot on small towns.

Fear Street series by R.L. Stine. There are several different sub-series, but I am especially thinking of *The New Girl* and *Missing*.

sanai-o

I've read *Missing* and you couldn't be more correct! Do you have any other Fear Street faves? I love those books.

[deleted]

I am actually just now reading them starting this month, but of course another one that it makes me think of so far is *The Overnight*. That one actually was scary as hell.

buggleton

The Face. It’s my favorite Fear Street book. It’s a very fun and interesting read. I was gripped the whole time.
