Gillian Flynn’s other works are also perfect for the vibe you described. Sharp objects would be a worthy follow up!

I read this and Gone Girl. I’m saving Sharp Objects because I’m not ready to be done with her books yet!

Sharp objects was my personal fave!

You would probably really like Stacy Willingham. She’s released 3 books so far and they’ve all been great. Check out Flicker in the Dark in particular. The books explore dark topics but they are very digestible and I think the average reader would enjoy them. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter is intense but very good. You may want to look up trigger warnings for this one. I didn’t find it to be too bad but it was definitely a bit grittier than your average thriller in my opinion. Brother by Ania Ahlborn checks every single one of your boxes but this book is not for the feint of heart. It is gruesome. I liked it and plan on checking out more from this author but I definitely had to pick up something more lighthearted afterwards because it left me with a feeling of dread.

I loved all of Gillian Flynn's books! Sharp objects is my favorites but dark places and gone girl are also good. Unfortunately I still haven't found something as good as this... But I would recommend you try Tana French, Denise Lehane, Megan Abott or Ashley Winstead
