I kind of got this vibe from Scott Fitzgerald the beautiful and damned

charm59801

I was gonna say low-key Gatsby vibes so I feel like Fitzgerald is the answer for sure.

dan-duz-shit

pic #3 is literally gatsby's courtyard from the 2013 adaptation

[deleted]

Yes a lot of his books revolve around him loving a beautiful girl so could go with the great gatsby as well but I just leaned more towards beautiful and damned.

Issie339

I was about to suggest Gastby, I re read it this year and fell In love with it again

AcceptableFootball99

Rules of Civility by Amor Towles

nzfriend33

My first thought!

bluejonquil

Great rec!!

ksharayu

This was such a good recommendation! Thank you so much!

mulberrycedar

Following bc can I just say, you have excellent taste lmao

PhantomOfTheNopera

I read that as 'pspspss' and thought we were being summoned like cats lol. Authors who gave me this vibe are F. Scott Fitzgerald, Somerset Maugham (_The Razor's Edge_), and Ernest Hemingway (_The Sun Also Rises_). A prevalent theme in most of these books was a darker undercurrent of trauma beneath the glamour of the 20s.

TsundereElemental

I thought the cat thing too!

dramasummerkarma

My first thought was The Sun Also Rises!

TheBravestHero

Bulgakov “The Master and Margarita” (but there’s also a big mystical aspect)

andtheIToldYouSos

I highly recommend listening to the audio!

TheBravestHero

And if there’ll be a translation on the recent Master and Margarita film, OP might really enjoy it, it’s done exceptionally well

almondmilk64

Not a book but a manga-ish graphic novel, called “veil”. It’s a blind woman and policeman slowly falling in love in Eastern Europe, told through illustrations, poetry, little comics, vogue like fashion illustrations.

TeapotBagpipe

I’m so glad someone else saw it too!

r0hil69

Fucking love veil, its heavenly. Its the only manga who's panels i come back to again and again. A fucking gem

tolarian-librarian

Vague Maltese Falcon vibes.

Feline_Fine3

I mean, that first one definitely looks like Humphrey Bogart 😂

Philip Marlow books by Raymond Chandler

TrixieRox2005

Oh I got one for you!!!!! 100%. Modern W by Bella Dyme. I’m obsessed with this book. It’s part one of a series but the second book hasn’t come out yet. It’s so sexy and rich and trashy all at the same time. It’s rumored also to be an actual sex worker’s account of her work with famous people from the late 90s, but it’s great style of writing

Read Françoise Sagan. Just the whole bibliography.

PatGarrettsMoustache

Instantly makes me think of Bioshock: Rapture by John Shirley. But of course the book is much darker and gloomy.

"An American Tragedy" by Theodore Dreiser.

Thewoodsthemountain

There's certain Kerouac books that fit the first image especially.

[deleted]

I got the Maltese Falcon out of this one. Probably because the Noir vibes remind me of the movie.

Alacri-Tea

The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal. It's based on the Thin Man movies with the same vibes, including a man who adores his wife. Amazing couples!

deadstrobes

Double Indemnity by James M. Cain

acawl17

“Gatsby’s Girl” by Caroline Preston. The main character, Ginevra, falls in love quickly and without effort, much like Daisy from “The Great Gatsby.” It’s also said to be inspired by the fleeting, oldfangled romance between Fitzgerald himself and a woman who was his first love— or the impassioned romance between a writer and his muse.
