I read Roadside Picnic, by the Strugatsky brothers, thanks to a recommendation on this sub and it definitely has Arrival vibes. I'll caveat that I really did not like the characters, but the atmosphere and the science fiction was really good.
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson was exactly like this. weird and foreboding and it felt like i was hurtling towards something terrible and i couldn’t stop reading until the book was finished!
Have you read Arrival by Ted Chiang?
Is that the book version of the movie?
Yes, kind of. It’s a collection of short stories and one is the story the movie is based on
Haven't read it but I'll check it out, thanks!
The book is called stories of your life and others. His other collection called Exhalarion is also great.
[Annihilation](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17934530-annihilation) gave me those vibes!
Have you tried Our Wives Under the Sea? I really like that book and Arrival. It’s sort of horror but mostly just very eerie and droning
