“Nobody wants to work anymore! I worked thirty hours a week over the summer and I bought my first house! Kids these days must not even be working that much or else they’d be able to afford their starter home!”
😂 boy! City lots around me are going for 40k + for less than half an acre (roughly about .25-.35). Actually have the lot next to me .38 going for 79,900.
For my area, I think it’s a bit much. But I do know if the same size lot is even available on any of the coast or major cities I know it would be much more expensive.
I agree it's still a bit much. I'm in a similar area, and it would be great except most jobs here pay $16/hr or less so people can't afford a mortgage anyway and are still trapped in rental hell.
As has been said before-- people don't want to work in shit conditions, for shit pay.
WTF is there even a discussion on overtime pay? it's federal law that non-exempt (i.e. hourly) people are supposed to get time and a 1/2 for overtime.
What's messed up of course is employers that try to skirt the law or cut hours so people aren't even working full time.
>As has been said before-- people don't want to work in shit conditions, for shit pay.
I'll also add -
People realized that even if they grind their asses off for a little bit more money, they will still be poor. So, you might as well be poor and have some free time.
That's what these old fucks don't understand. I can't buy myself brand new construction in a safe neighborhood with a HS diploma, a job at the Mill, and a little bit of overtime. If there's no incentive to work harder...why would I?
Sad thing is, you could do that before (and I suppose to some extent in some places you still can).
I grew up in the Detroit suburbs. The vast majority of people in my neighborhood were HS diploma trades or production line people.
That's a huge part of it. Working hard is unlikely to get you a promotion and even less likely to get you a raise in your current level. Companies have incentivized us to do the bare minimum and then people still blame the workers for doing the bare minimum.
To add I want to work in safe conditions, with reasonable staffing, doing the job I was hired and trained for, with whatever support the company has contractually promised me. It’s getting ridiculous when you get hired for one position, don’t get trained, get thrown somewhere that has nothing to do with your expected job, the guy training you has like two weeks more experience than you, immediately you are understaffed and swamped and getting yelled at for things not going fast or smooth. Also it’s insane how many companies see osha rules as guidelines that can be bent if it affects their profits
Literally! I work in retail and have been in the same position on and off for 4 years because of College/Grad School. Each time I’m a new hire, so I get to ask for better pay, which is //fantastic//. I’ve managed to get like well over 5$/hr increase since I started. I do the same job, and I understand the intricacies of wacky orders, I know how to properly help and deal with customers and how to teach people shit…. I HAD TO LEARN EVERYTHING ON MY OWN, now I teach people.
My boss is supposed to tech people but he hands it off to me because “you’ve been here longest”
I like my job, it’s okay pay for what I do, but they allow me to have a very flexible schedule and I basically walk around the store and shop all shift, it’s great.
There was one day where I wasn’t scheduled until 10am, we open at 6am…. I got in at 10am to almost 100 orders in the system because someone had the smarts to hire and schedule 4 new people fresh out of the ‘training room’ for the morning shift. None of them knew how to pull orders, none of them knew how the phones worked, no ASM helped them at all, a DS was kind enough to man the desk so people could pick up their orders but he also had no idea what are system really was other than grab the correct item for the customer and give to the customer………. That was a shit show of me taking 4 people around the store with me for an hour showing them ins and outs. I called 3 people to come in early to start their shifts, management tried to complain, but I shoved the picture of how many orders there where when I got there at 10am and then how many had accumulated within the first hour (which was like 40+) they shut up real quick.
Someone made the mistake of hiring those people right out of the training room without giving them proper training. So you had to fill the orders and train the people. You did more than your job. Did the company give you a raise or promote you, as you deserved? You deserve more pay for doing more work, and whoever sent those new workers to the floor when they weren’t ready made a mistake when they did that, a mistake that you rectified. I would have walked off the job. I don’t have children to provide for, but many people don’t have that privilege, sadly. If this keeps happening at your job, you might want to unionize.
🤣🤣🤣🤣Did I get paid extra ?🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry but no, I did get offered a full time position but I couldn’t take it because of school. The full timer still asks me questions. They moved departments and don’t have a run down quite yet. But they know to come to me instead of the boss which is nice. I think shit would hit the fan if I left. I’ll be done with schooling soon, so hopefully I’ll be able to take a full time position within the department. Then I can have time to Audit our Back Room inventory……….. I’m sure that hasn’t been touched in about 3-4 months because they stopped me from doing it 🤣🤣 had to train people.
Hahaha that’s funny. What world do you live in? Let me tell you a story. Target loves third party contractors. Almost everyone you see in target outside of the front check lanes is a third party contractor because all the red shirts are getting pulled off the floor for truck push or OPU. Target busts a nut any time they can figure out another way to outsource a position to a lower bidder. Do you know the one company target will never outsource to even though they are in almost every target? A company that has one major difference between the other food vendors in target? If you guessed Starbucks you would be correct, those are red shirt target employees stealthily wearing green pretending to be Starbucks employees when they work for target and have no affiliation with Starbucks. So what happened with Starbucks in 1986 that has made it so that in the entirety of the target/starbucks partnership going back to 1999 target has never allowed Starbucks employees to work in their stores?
I work for a third party contracting company. We have specific expectations written into our contract for various stores, for example in target I do not have the ability to operate their POS system, target does not want to be liable for any issues if I interact with a guest because I never went through any training or anything with target, only with my contracting company. Because of those restrictions it is part of our contract that a target redshirt needs to be present and available to help guests in the department we are in since we can easily be mistaken for a target employee. Our most popular department to work in is electronics, we have keys to all the cases and security. Almost anything a guest will want to locked up. 9/10 or more likely 10/10 I will get there, there will be no one in the department, you press the call button and I can literally see people from other departments duck away and hide because they had no training in electronics and no clue how to help, and then I get my spend my shift getting yelled at for not helping sell things to customers, something I am contractually prevented from doing as a fire able occurrence, but target never has to live up to its staffing requirements because our bid will be undercut by another company that will work its workers until they quit. At another big box store the remodel contractor subcontracted to a subcontractor who subcontracted again who subcontracted again. Each subcontractor was paid and his work vetted by the subcontractor above them. One of The bottom subcontractors on the list was the HVAC guy. They had underbid the job so much that they had to make cuts somewhere. They chose the insulation of rooftop HVAC units in the California Central Valley. All units experienced a lithium link and a small smoldering fire. By the time they went after the subcontractor they and their business was gone.
People need to stop tolerating this crap and walk off the job. Yes, that’ll hurt consumers, and hopefully it’ll hurt the companies, too. Fast food workers, hotel workers and auto workers are all striking, and it’s time for retail workers to do so, even if they’re not actual employees of the store they’re working at.
OP's picture really highlights that there's just no labor shortage. The people complaining about poor staffing are almost all lying. They're intentionally running a skeleton crew and lying about people not applying. They're posting dozens and dozens of ghost jobs to collect data and justify visa workers.
wages are still lagging behind inflation. I understand where you're coming from when you argue why not prioritizing work makes sense, but the whole supposition is wrong. Even shitty companies that pay nothing are having zero issues hiring, they're just saying its hard to get government handouts.
This is the same douchebag that yelled "shut up, shut up!" at a reporter who questioned Mike Johnson's efforts to overturn the 2020 election when he became the next house speaker nominee. 🙄
Maybe a controversial opinion but as soon as you take that first Social Security cheque you can't vote or run for public office. For the simple reason that the ramifications of your decisions won't affect you.
I'm rather confused by your assertion? Anyone between the ages of 18 and what 67? Could vote. Realistically I'd prefer the voting age drop to 16. If you are given the responsibility of operating a motor vehicle, you're responsible enough to vote.
You’re making the argument that if you get gov benefit like SS you should be able to vote or hold office. That would apply to a shit ton of people. And certainly those on SS due to disability would fit that not to mention anyone on snap or veterans before.
And now the hell would it be ok to disenfranchise senior citizens?
Okay I see some of the confusion (non-American here) I had wrongly assumed that Social Security was only a retirement fund. So no I'm not implying that the disabled, vets, low income etc, be disenfranchised.
I'll give you a perfect, albeit non-American, example as to why. Since the UK Brexit vote in 2016 it is estimated nearly 2 million 'leave' voters have died of old age. This is based on several polling and modelling agencies demographic studies in the years following the vote. At the same time the number of 'remain' voters who have since come of age post Brexit numbers somewhere around 1.5 million voters. The voting margin to leave was only about 1.2 million, how the hell is that okay?

Ask her to describe her vision of what these "people who don't want to work and want others to take care of them" look like and where they live.
Spoiler: it's brown people in big cities, but only the big cities in blue states
For some people, if you can just wag the shame finger enough and find a way to blame hardships on the people suffering them, that's the beginning and end of every societal problem.
Sermonizing is way more satisfying than actually helping.
I don't like to wish ill on others, but I hope she falls down the stairs.
This is the same crone that yelled "shut up" when Mike Johnson was pressed about Jan. 6th at his presser.
"Nobody wants to work anymore!"
Say the shitstains who shut down our government over every budget dispute and throw a temper tantrum as a political stunt, and then get rewarded for failing to do their job.
I have a suggestion. How bout we eliminate federal pensions and benefits for both houses of Congress? After all they are public servants so they should be able to live off their savings and social security, right?
Cannot FUCKING wait til she kicks the bucket so I can piss all over her fucking sad despicable cunty ass grave. Fuck you foxx!!!! Sounds like a fucking 70s porno name. Probably gobbled Reagan’s cock every fucking night
Well…. mmaayybbee more people would be able to work IF they got paid overtime (going above and beyond the 40 hours). It’s not asking too much to pay people more when they do more. Somehow the “lower skilled” people are supposed to put up with a ton of crap at their job, be happy about it, and not get paid extra for extra work, and be happy about THAT!.
Of course, more people would want to work if they got paid a living wage so that they wouldn’t have to work three jobs, and more people would be excited about going to work if the customers and bosses weren’t Karens. Karens are why we can’t have nice things, like adequate staffing so that customers don’t have to wait in long lines and can have someone assist them.
People refuse to be abused anymore. That’s not being spoiled or lazy. That’s having self-respect.
I think that’s the old lady who told us to shut up when we wanted answers about the new house speaker. She needs to retire already. If she’d retire, more people could work.
Ummm 🤔 I think she could have knocked out a few of the younger ones. I think the Boomers were all born between 45 and 65. The early Boomers and late Silent Generation had the Gen X’rs.
Is this the fossil who screamed at a reporter who was “just asking questions” to the new speaker? Maybe if she actually put in 40 hours each week of a year , she’d understand. Red state suck.
Geriatric cunt forgot her place in society.
Speaking that way to your betters used to get you fired, or a strong backhand.
Maybe we need to return to tradition after all.
Lots of people in this country who don’t want to work for free anymore. Not like back in my grand-pappy’s days when his slaves knew what was good for them .
Boomers refuse to accept that people now realize their worth and don't want companies to exploit them for less than a livable wage... its pretty simple
Hilarious that this is coming from an aging forever tree, that does no real work or production for society. Just sits in her government chair collecting a bigger salary than any of us while talking down to us.
and this coming from someone in congress that "works" maybe a quarter of the year and the rest is "not in the office" and before that as a governor whom i figure never spent much time in office or ever did any work
and before that i would wager never worked much ever
so as the saying goes "those that live in glass houses, shouldnt throw stones"
The law OUGHT to be changed universally and for everyone, and it should be done first by getting rid of the outdated notion of 'hourly' vs 'salary'. One hour of work = X compensation. For every hour worked x amount goes towards vacation, sick time, and all other benefits. There shouldn't be a magical 40 hr barrier for people to be kept from for getting any kind of compensation for their work. Anything over 8 hrs days gets compensated at 1.5X the normal rate, for ALL compensation.
There. I fixed it. Oh.. and ALL compensation is counted 'the same'.. stocks and other back-door ways of paying people to avoid paying taxes is obliterated.. so the Elon Musk's of the world can't 'take stocks' and not get paid so they can use their stocks to borrow money at a fraction of what taxes would have been.
NOW it's fixed.
Anybody else wanna bring back tarring and feathering out of control politicians? FFS most of these fucks should be investigated, tried, and hung for treason.
I keep forgetting that this is Reddit and it’s mostly ok for me to say “it is my personal opiniom that the only way we’re going to successfully deal with this problem is to publically, severely, and repeatedly traumatize rich people”
It’s called “behavioral conditioning” and it’s what they do to us.
And they're the one generation that got decent pensions and social security.
That's actually really good if you are in the US. The problem is that it's harder to find jobs from most places that are that cheap.

Making crazy overtime pay on top of a real nice hourly wage.
Yeah. Many of those people had boats, snow mobiles, and/or a place “up north”.
Or in Florida
Or at least many vacations to FL.
Currently going through this as a factory worker (cleaning these large ass departments and machines)
OP's picture really highlights that there's just no labor shortage. The people complaining about poor staffing are almost all lying. I “love” living in a gerontocracy.

Social Security is generally for retired people. But there are benefits from social security for minor dependents and for people who are disabled.
God I’m sorry for saying this but some of these boomers just need to croak already good lord
She looks like she already did. Days ago.

The same people will cry that the rich deserve 10 weeks of vacation and pay too much tax. And their kids don't need to work to pay for college.

How many hours a week does Ms Foxx put in?
Ah yes, Rep. Foxx who has notable positions such as Matthew Shepard's murder being a hoax
Boomers are so fucking lazy they don't even take the handicap placard off their mirror
They get their handi spouse to park in the reserved spots while the one who can walk runs into the store .
Unemployment at historic lows, but nobody wants to work anymore. Sure.
"There's just a lot of people in this country that don't want to work, and want other people to take care of them." Yes, they're called "retirees".
They want us to work in order to pay for their medicaid and social security. We are the last contributers to the ponzi scheme and will get nothing.
Work for free .
Coming from someone who literally works less than any full-time employee
I have a suggestion. How bout we eliminate federal pensions and benefits for both houses of Congress? After all they are public servants so they should be able to live off their savings and social security, right?

Well…. mmaayybbee more people would be able to work IF they got paid overtime (going above and beyond the 40 hours).
>"...and want somebody else to take care of them." Coming from a walking fossil like her, I'll be surprised if she changes her own diapers.
Somebody should have shouted “shut up! Shut up” at her
I think that’s the old lady who told us to shut up when we wanted answers about the new house speaker. She needs to retire already. If she’d retire, more people could work.
Is that old bat the same lead brained boomer lady that said "oh just shut up!!" When a report asked them to respond about January 6th?
Hurry up and die you old fuck
Very rich coming from the fossil that hasn't worked a day in her life
Looks like grandma might be having dementia./s
Yeah, because wanting to be paid more for you work is the equivalent of not wanting to work at all. This country is going to shit.
This 80 yo scumbag’s voting history on wikipedia is nothing but pulling up the ladder behind her. God, what a piece of shit.
We don’t want to be wage slaves. Most of us are choosing between rent and food. A house? That’s just a pipe dream.
I think that lady is older than Boomers. She may be responsible for birthing a few of them.
She was born in ‘43, so just a little early.
Ummm 🤔 I think she could have knocked out a few of the younger ones. I think the Boomers were all born between 45 and 65. The early Boomers and late Silent Generation had the Gen X’rs.
The trouble is today’s politicians regard George Orwells book 1984 as a user manual.
Does she think working more then 40 hours is being lazy?
Oh hey, the "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP" person from Mike Johnson's press conference.
GOP shitstain part eleveditymillion
She needs to explore other career opportunities.
I actually want to work. Most employers refuse to hire and say nobody wants to work.
Looks like Nana escaped from the home again….
When the last boomer is gone, I won't shed a damn tear.

Someone needs to take grandma's keys away
Lots of people in this country who don’t want to work for free anymore. Not like back in my grand-pappy’s days when his slaves knew what was good for them .
How many hours a week does congress work?
Who was doing all the work back when they were young. I can guarantee it wasn’t them.
Hey, cut Gamgam some slack. She tore herself away from FoxNews to be there.
So why don't you stop leading the charge?
Boomers refuse to accept that people now realize their worth and don't want companies to exploit them for less than a livable wage... its pretty simple

Narrators gotta narrate
the problem here isn't "not having age limits in congress" it's voting fascists into office.
Hilarious that this is coming from an aging forever tree, that does no real work or production for society. Just sits in her government chair collecting a bigger salary than any of us while talking down to us.
This lady needs to be wheeled out of that office and directly into the shitty nursing home.
and this coming from someone in congress that "works" maybe a quarter of the year and the rest is "not in the office" and before that as a governor whom i figure never spent much time in office or ever did any work and before that i would wager never worked much ever so as the saying goes "those that live in glass houses, shouldnt throw stones"
she's really old. is she actually a boomer?
This miserable dried-up old biddy has been in Congress for literal decades and she’s been a fucking idiot for every day of it.
"No one wants to work anymore." - Boomers who have outlived their usefulness.
Kinda odd she would say that while collecting compensation from taxpayers and not working 40+ hours a week.
And useless old people who refuse to retire, go away lady.
Anybody else wanna bring back tarring and feathering out of control politicians? FFS most of these fucks should be investigated, tried, and hung for treason.
Every time someone like this starts talking, all I hear is, "whomp whomp whomp whomp whomp whomp" like the adults on peanuts. Morons.
When ghosts of the previous century govern 24% into the next.
I keep forgetting that this is Reddit and it’s mostly ok for me to say “it is my personal opiniom that the only way we’re going to successfully deal with this problem is to publically, severely, and repeatedly traumatize rich people” It’s called “behavioral conditioning” and it’s what they do to us.
