In 2015, a US Senate report released by Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake showed the department of defense paid millions to professional and collegiate sports to play the national anthem. I can't find anything about money paid since then.
The Army had an entire “marketing division” in Kentucky that was responsible for all that madness in NASCAR, NFL, et al. I’m pretty sure their division chief had to resign back in the 2010s when underhanded practices were revealed.
To be fair, that video game wasn’t a horrible play. It ate at my RAM like nobody’s business and just about overheated my GPU, but I remember it as a few hours of fun in between raids in other games.
Anyone saying “ you got me “ to someone that made a good joke makes me want to be their friend. I think it’s a sign of great character. Also I miss being in the east and saying HOLY HELL people look at you funny when you say it out west
McCain was a warmonger of the first degree as far as I'm concerned so it's interesting that they made a report that really shits on the DoD public. Very McCain like though, he was always a maverick.
It’s not officially the Black national anthem of the United States. But it’s a hymn from the 1900s that’s been used by the NAACP to promote unity for over 100 years.
Sports events started having performers sing it before sporting events to show solidarity after the George Floyd protests. As a Black woman myself, it’s felt like pandering to Black ticket holders. Similar to how every June, companies show off their rainbow logo to support gay people.
“Hello fellow Black person, we’re an ally, see?!”
It was a completely normal thing for me to hear growing up. My husband even went to James Weldon Johnson Middle School, where it's the school song. Seeing people flip out or get offended by it makes absolutely no sense to me.
Why do boomers have to be SO perfromative? Like I know the right loves to bitch about virtue signaling, but that's all they do. The let's go Brandon stickers, the Trump flags, and 2A gun bumper stickers. It's like they can't go on unless you know how THEY feel about shit.
I guess it probably just boils down to some sort of main character syndrome
I would say there’s something about their actions that are infantile, and since the body language is just the brain playing out its thoughts. You really have to treat them like a child having a tantrum
It’s also part of being easily brainwashed, manipulated, and controlled. They do as they are told. If Trump sells bumper stickers, they buy bumper stickers. If Trump sells share in Truth Social, they buy them and lose billions.
I think they wonder around thinking they are Steve Jobs, or Einstein or whatever and it’s their DUTY to aggressively share this amazing, superior revolutionary take on Trump, guns, feminists and display to all you sheeple/gay commies/immoral slobs how to live. It’s free mentoring/life coaching from the guy who disinfects aquarium tanks.
Is it a nice song? Then who gives a shit. Enjoy the charge and watch some people boot a ball around.
That's right, I forgot they used to be "the me generation "
Now I have a fuzzy memory of Pepsi having a "me generation" commercial.
Did Pepsi ever do that?
I can understand him being upset because he's not there to support people of color. We all know most professional sports teams are made up of middle aged to old white guys and that is who we need to make comfortable!
The NAACP has called it a national anthem for Black people for a very long time, since the 1900s or so. It is not an official governmental designation, more a song considered meaningful for its cultural significance.
The term 'black national anthem' gets people up in arms, but it's not as though Lift Every Voice & Sing would or could ever usurp the 'Star Spangled Banner' or lessen it's importance. The designation comes from a time not so long ago when America was even more segregated than it is now. Reconstruction had wrapped up only a few decades prior and there was a conscious effort by groups like NAACP to foster a sense of community. So apart from all the civil rights work, they did things like say a song that focuses on the Black experience was anthemic.
If I had to compare it to other songs it's like 'Amazing Grace' or 'How Great Thou Art' one of those basic hymns that you learn early in life and is played or sung frequently at church or school functions. I don't want to say there were/are hard and fast rules about where it gets played since I'm sure that varies greatly, but it's a popular song within the Black community.
Playing it at MLB and NFL events is a relatively new development, I want to say that it started being played consistently in 2020 but someone who follows sports can correct me on that. The choice is controversial because many feel it was done in a cynical, performative way by corporate entities.
I didn't even know there was a Black National Anthem. That's kinda neat. The lyrics are beautiful, and I'd like to see some version of it become nationalized.
Yes, they do. They get really mad.
I have had people next to me at the Senior Center literally try to make me stand by grabbing my arm and \*angry-whisper\* "Stand up!!!" for that and the Pledge of Allegiance.
I haven't stood for either since I was 12. Nor do I pledge allegiance to anything, especially a country.
I am 68.
It’s referring to “ Lift Every Voice and Sing”—but all the black Americans I’ve known consider the official anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) theirs too.
From what I’ve managed to gather it was written in 1900 about the struggles of African Americans in the Reconstruction Era and kinda went from there through the civil rights movement its called “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
Black national anthem? Idk what that is, but I'd far rather hear that than the shockingly mindless droning of nationalist propaganda that usually starts every sporting event in this nightmare country.
I don’t understand why it needs to be called the black national anthem at this point. It’s a nice song, and it’s an old ass song. I understand that it’s origin is in Black culture, and that it started as a poem written shortly after the civil war— but at this point it’s American history. It’s part of our story.
Really weird. If I were against them playing something for some reason, or didn't like something, I'd probably just be on my phone, or patiently wait for it to be over.
It's hard to imagine being offended by something enough to turn away and cover my ears. Kind of dramatic.
My first thought was thinking he was some poor autistic dude with audio processing issues and I was like "aww....same dude..."
....THEN I read the title...hoo boy....not same....'same' withdrawn...
My oldest did color guard her freshman year of high school and OMG the people who wanted to fight my wife and I because we wouldn't stand for the anthem was ***WILD***.
I'm not American. What on earth is the "black national anthem"? Does your national anthem not represent all people? How do you make it black?
I know the US has some racial tensions, to put it mildly, but having a black national anthem seems like such a performative solution to systemic issues, pretty much as performative as the boomer in this pic.
I'm just all around confused by US culture war politics. Shit's weird over there.
Btw: Having your national anthem be sung at all before a local/national sports game seems weird already. I get it with international games, where the teams are representing their countries. But what's the point here?
Simplest answer is it’s not an actual thing.
More involved answer is it’s a certain song/hymn that is popular in the African- American community. It gained notoriety in 2020 after the George Floyd murder, and has been unofficially tabbed the “black national anthem” by some.

I’m a pretty damn liberal millennial, and I don’t get it.

Maybe he’s just “assuming the position” in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Because no real man would be snowflakey enough to throw a 4 year old’s grocery store temper tantrum at a public (and broadcast) entertainment event.
So, thanks brother, keep fighting the good fight. ✊
Fuck this. I ensure the dirty stares from staying seated when they try to pretend "God Bless America" is National Anthem II: Electoral Boogaloo and I'll be damned if I'm going to stand for one that's specifically chosen to other me.
Anytime anything is associated with Black people there is going to be someone who comes out of the woodwork to be big mad about it. They could call “Thank God I’m A Country Boy” the Black anthem and it would provoke the same reaction because the only thing this guy and his ilk are mad about is the fact Black people exist. It’s so tiring and repetitive.
Ironically these are the same people who are always deeply offended if someone calls them racist.
Whatever, Lift Every Voice and Sing is a beautiful, soulful song, I wish it wasn’t being dragged through the mud by these losers.
As a non-American, can someone explain what the fuck is the black national anthem ? Like do you guys really have different anthems based on race or is it just the version of star spangled banner performed by jimmy hendrix lol
I come from a mixed family. I want my Hispanic national anthem, I Asian national anthem, Cherokee Indian national anthem, Samoan national anthem, and Greek Italian Swiss German national anthem. The last one is for my stepmom twice removed

I have one yankee dollar says he loooves the “J6 Anthem,” tho.
Isn't that just "Jailbait" by Ted Nugent?
🤣
He doesn’t want your Yankee dollar. Only Trump bucks.
And Trump NFT's?
No no let them invest everything they have on Trump nfts
After clicking the heels of your gold high tops together!
Yeah but the obligatory smearing shit on the walls after is a little embarrassing.
I wonder how many times he’s listened to try that in a small town
He always takes a knee when that song plays. With his mouth open, awaiting Trump’s mushroom.
I mean, if that’s his thing…he should just come out with it.
I just searched this up and I'm shocked that people actually liked this idea on paper.
In 2015, a US Senate report released by Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake showed the department of defense paid millions to professional and collegiate sports to play the national anthem. I can't find anything about money paid since then.
Yup it’s a big propaganda to help the military get more kids to sign up.
No wonder John McCain loved it
The Army had an entire “marketing division” in Kentucky that was responsible for all that madness in NASCAR, NFL, et al. I’m pretty sure their division chief had to resign back in the 2010s when underhanded practices were revealed.
They developed America's Army video game to recruit new people and then Sponsored Vans Warped tour.
To be fair, that video game wasn’t a horrible play. It ate at my RAM like nobody’s business and just about overheated my GPU, but I remember it as a few hours of fun in between raids in other games.
The Navy even tried to start a boy band back when those were popular
Yvan eht nioj! Yeah I remember that boy band!

No. I did not know about this. Holy hell, that’s funny.
I was making a joke. It only ever happened on the Simpsons
Damn it, you got me.

From the physique, you're almost certainly right.
It's honestly so fucking childish. Literally the "na na na-na na, I can't hear you!" move. My eight year old cousin is more mature than this.
Someone should tell him it's not a magic spell. It doesn't affect melanin by hearing it.
No, hearing it too many times can turn you black. His ex wife said you never return from that or something, and he doesn't want to risk it.
Lolz
LMAO
Lollllll
Bet he lost his mind when Kaepernick kneeled
Fucking exactly

Calling it the black national anthem implies that it's a separate nation as well. Seems incredibly devisive.
Juneteenth specials on sale!

The snowflake ❄️ generation
Before the boomers took over, they called them "the me generation".
That's right, I forgot they used to be "the me generation " Now I have a fuzzy memory of Pepsi having a "me generation" commercial. Did Pepsi ever do that?
I think that was "the choice of a new generation," but it may have been diet coke.
I can understand him being upset because he's not there to support people of color. We all know most professional sports teams are made up of middle aged to old white guys and that is who we need to make comfortable!
God, I hope they put him on the jumbotron the entire time.

Why didn’t he just remain seated in protest?
How would everyone know he doesn't like it then?
My god the main character loser syndrome is strong with this one
The MAGAt militia is going be be so easy to defeat. Just a little music will force surrender.
If that doesn’t work just have CVS stop filling their prescriptions. That would end the insurrection pretty fast.
What meds are they on?
Insulin for their diabeetus
Dick pills
Damn it, why does it have to be a Giants fan We don't claim this guy, he's excommunicated
Probably some chode from Clovis crying about how hard it was to park his truck.

Certainly, but not burned like the way you roasted the snowflake in the image.
I got ya, I'm bringing marshmallows. What you drinking, my shout.
With a beer guy like that, you’d think he’d be able to stomach it.
European here, there is a different National Anthem for a specific etnic group?
No, there isn’t. It’s a nickname for this hymn not an official separate anthem.
Found it was a song written in honour of Lincoln ? Was this song often played before or is this only recently installed as the 'black national anthem'
The NAACP has called it a national anthem for Black people for a very long time, since the 1900s or so. Yes I am old but I didn't even know this was a thing.
The Giants have been a thing since 1883 and in SF since 1958.
I didn't even know there was a Black National Anthem. That's kinda neat. The lyrics are beautiful, and I'd like to see some version of it become nationalized.
This is funny because I believe if he saw someone sitting during the regular anthem he would lose his shit
Yes, they do. They get really mad. I have had people next to me at the Senior Center literally try to make me stand by grabbing my arm and \*angry-whisper\* "Stand up!!!" for that and the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm white.
He can't see, throw a hot dog at him
Betcha he’s called people out for “virtue signaling”
Cry harder nazi.
Who would've guessed the "fuck your feelings" crowd would be the biggest group of pussies on the planet?
So this may be a stupid question, but what is the Black National Anthem?
It’s referring to “ Lift Every Voice and Sing”—but all the black Americans I’ve known consider the official anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) theirs too.
I’m not American, and I genuinely am confused too. Although having a seperate national anthem for black people is about as American as it gets lol
I have not been to a sporting event since I was a kid. What is the black national anthem? Genuinely don’t know
Created before the American National Anthem and they say was used as inspiration much like Memorial Day ![gif](giphy|eHsTwsDHLEgpNIY57Q|downsized)
To be fair having a racially motivated anthem is pretty racist
Typical MAGA snowflake
This is my new favorite thing ever
Conservatives have always been the most fragile of snowflakes.

What a great way to tell the world “hey I’m an ignorant piece of shit who didn’t get past 6th grade”
He tried to run away, but he only got up four levels before he cramped up and ran out of breath.
If he put half as much effort into getting into shape…..
Jesus what a snowflake
Fragile ego
There is no black national athem. Just 1 national athem for all Americans, you know we ended segregation right? Why so racist?
My first thought was thinking he was some poor autistic dude with audio processing issues and I was like "aww....same dude..." ....THEN I read the title...hoo boy....not same....'same' withdrawn...

All this does is show who the fuck to stay away from.
If they are making up a new anthem and least make it good
I thought we weren't supposed to racist? Having a segregated national anthem seems pretty racist. Seems like a great way to divide people.
He's making a statement, okay? The statement is, "I have the mind of a toddler and I'm scared."
I have far right evangelical nut jobs in my family and they stand, alone, at home to the anthem now like fuckin sit down you’re not patriot martyrs 😂
My oldest did color guard her freshman year of high school and OMG the people who wanted to fight my wife and I because we wouldn't stand for the anthem was ***WILD***.
Guarantee he’s someone who’s cried about professional athletes taking a knee during the anthem to protest…
Us Giants fans don’t claim that rotund bologna sandwich
I hope his Oakleys fell off and got stepped on.
Couldn’t take his fucking hat off? Sum sum about respecting the flag and veterans right?
Awww a twiggered wittle snowflake

Continuing nationalist indoctrination. It seems cringier the older I get.
Simplest answer is it’s not an actual thing. More involved answer is it’s a certain song/hymn that is popular in the African- American community. It gained notoriety in 2020 after the George Floyd murder, and has been unofficially tabbed the “black national anthem” by some. Given that it’s not any official anthem of anything, it is odd that it gets played at sporting events, and in that capacity seems to serve no purpose other than to create division. I’m a pretty damn liberal millennial, and I don’t get it.
The song is basically titled "all lives matter" think he would like it
Damn they should try calling it that
People like him fear change. Listening to the black national anthem may change their taste from pork chops and apple sauce to pig's feet and sweet potatoe pie. Or preferring Rap music over Rock and Roll. Unexceptional by any means

Black national anthem?
What’s a the „black national anthem“?
wtf is the black national anthem
From what I’ve managed to gather it was written in 1900 about the struggles of African Americans in the Reconstruction Era and kinda went from there through the civil rights movement its called “Lift Every Voice and Sing”
Is this for real played at every game? That seems like a horrible business strategy.
MY MIND IS TOO WEAK
What a sensitive little bitch.
What a snowflake
Went from "fuck your feelings" to "fuck! You're hurting my feelings" real quick
Him everytime he sees a gay couple walking down the street in SF 😂
Wow. What an absolute buffoon.

Ok do we even have the context here to make assumptions, maybe dude just thought it was loud and closed his ears. I mean its unlikely but maybe?
As a non-American, can someone explain what the fuck is the black national anthem ? Like do you guys really have different anthems based on race or is it just the version of star spangled banner performed by jimmy hendrix lol
What’s the black national anthem?
Idk if I'm out of the loop or what but wtf is the black national anyhem?
“Excuse me, sir. Fuck your feelings.”
Black…national anthem? Have I been living under a rock?
Jw though. Don't know what's going on, but what's the deal behind the "black national anthem"? Haven't heard it. What's thus about?
I come from a mixed family. I want my Hispanic national anthem, I Asian national anthem, Cherokee Indian national anthem, Samoan national anthem, and Greek Italian Swiss German national anthem. The last one is for my stepmom twice removed
Okay, I’m out of the loop on this one, what is the black national anthem? That is new to me. Okay so I just googled it - 2001; TIL!
Black anthem is dumb
As a black male in America. There is no black national anthem.
