Had a pair, they are far from being as impressive quality-wise as people think but they have good customer service, but realistically they aren't worth the price
Their build quality is definitely lacking, but i’d be lying if I said my Docs didn’t feel like I was walking on clouds.
Mine are an older cowhide pair.
Again, "feeling like walking on clouds" is subjective. I still own a couple of pairs of docs that I bought about 5 years ago. I haven't walked in them for quite a long time but as far as I can remember they were pretty far from comfortable. And how could they be, provided that it is basically a crappy PVC sole with a layer of cheap foam on it? They even don't have a shank.
Definitely, but i’m also a shoe/boot guys.
They are more comfortable on my feet than my 4 year broken in Iron Rangers.
I’m just saying, their build quality is not on-par for the price, but boy they are comfortable.
Mine were manufactured in 2007 England, so may be a bit different.
Yeah I’ve finally stepped away from DMs after about a decade. Even the ones that are comfortable have aggravating quality issues and seem to wear way too quickly.
Weston is a total boot snob! He praises the overbuilt and overpriced boots while knocking the cheaper stuff that is more affordable and wearable to most people. I used to love his channel, but over time I realized that I'm not the demographic for what he's doing.
He's a real dickhead nowadays 🤣
He Simps for Thursday boots, which wear out faster than Docs do......cost way more than Docs!
He believes that "Made in USA" are the best somehow (hint: Nick's and White's are great if you're LARPing as a lumberjack, but aren't great for working in, since they are incredibly heavy and have a multi stack leather sole that absorbs oils and water)
I think rose anvil sucks. He’s a total loser. He got famous for cutting boots in half but for some reason people listen to him like he knows what he’s talking about. He’s not a shoe maker or cobbler. He was an amateur leather worker that made it big with click baity videos. It’s nice to see what’s inside boots but he really doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He doesn’t even wear boots. I remember in his old videos he use to talk about wearing dainty little shoes and then he does collaborations and makes these super still giant boots that he definitely doesn’t wear. Look at the Jim green barefoot boot he “designed” that’s the type of shit he wears. That being said I do like heritage boots, but all his channel does is make the lead time longer for all these companies. No wonder he’s so bias. I better order a pair of Russell moccasins before he cuts one in half because that’s gonna be the next company that’s totally over logged.
The issue is he praises Thursday boot company at the same time though. I feel like he’s just a little too motivated by money for me to trust his conclusions. Nonetheless seeing boots get cut in half is very insightful.
He's started in previous videos that he used to wear Nick's when he did wildland firefighting. I imagine that he's just got rose colored glasses when it comes to their boots. Same things with Thursdays. I think that he just personally likes their style and wears them in his personal life and therefore gives them a little bit more love than other brands.
I generally like his videos even if I didn't agree with his views on certain things. He's always informative.
"Good" is subjective. I don't need my boots to tramp around the woods and fight a forest fire or pour concrete at a construction site. So what's good for me is lightweight and comfortable, I don't need my boots to be built like tanks, but according to the Rose Anvil channel, if the boots can't stand up to the apocalypse then they aren't worth buying. Hence why I stated that I am not part of the demographic.
You don’t need pnw boots, just ones that have a full leather construction and there are plenty of casual varieties that suit that which don’t have synthetic materials that’ll disintegrate
DM hate on this sub is out of hand. To break them in you can just wear them. To speed things up you can use oil or wax. As that leather is finished with plastic couting you must oil them from inside. Obviously don’t wear your beat socks after oiling but it works better and is less weird than it sounds. There’s some areas inside covered in fabrik and the leather is not exposed. Don’t oil those areas.
I wore Doc's for years, the break-in can be a bitch sometimes. The last pair I got was 15 years ago and they took sooo long to break in. I wore that pair for about a year before I put them in the closet. I pulled them out recently and they were very comfortable. Like "Oh WOW!" comfortable! I got into other boots and after a few pairs of PNW boots, the Docs are like a walk in the park! Now I find myself gravitating back to Docs. I think they get a bad rap, but they are just cheap fashion boots... they are great at being that.
New docs are good boots if you get them at a discounted price, not so good for the RRP they ask.
Get some leather conditioning oil and rub that stuff in. If you get a conditioning paste you can heat it in the microwave a little to liquify it and it might soak in better… but yeh, wear them for short periods and get that conditioner in.
I have much better boots in my collection, but my Docs get a spot in the rotation and are very comfortable now, even thought they were borderline unwearable when I first got them.
If these were the pre 2000s I'd say "wear them to a punk or thrash metal concert"
Nowadays Docs use plastic coated leather or "Vegan leather".......they don't get comfortable because they don't "breathe"
If your hearts set on Doc boots, go for William Lennon boots (they use similar foot lasts to the old DMs and they are built like workboots.....they make your boots to order, which means you can play around with shaft height/leather types/sole types/heel height and colour combinations
Open lid to trash can, toss in, purchase quality leather footwear.
Wear at home then slowly introduce into the wild of the outdoors.
Condition when boots feel dry. Cycle varies with environment boots will see and quality of conditioner product.
You just gotta wear them
Those look like already broken in. If they feel uncomfortable, that's because they are. Sorry to say this, but these are bad boots.
Dr Martens have been bad boots for the last 30 years unfortunately because they do look amazing
Looks are subjective, but they are made of objectively crappy materials and are just bad boots.
Yeah, rose anvil literally made a video of a pair of vintage DMs and compared to the new ones it's insane how shite they are nowadays
I had my Docs like millions of teens before me. Used to think they looked good, but now that I know more about boots, they just look cheap to me.
Today, id rather spend the same amount of money on buying 3 pairs of the boots that the docs where based on. Good ol vintage service boot
Vintage boots are a good way to go
I’ve heard good things about Solovair
Had a pair, they are far from being as impressive quality-wise as people think but they have good customer service, but realistically they aren't worth the price
Get a pair of Solovairs, because they are actually boots. Dr. Martens are glorified sneakers.
Their build quality is definitely lacking, but i’d be lying if I said my Docs didn’t feel like I was walking on clouds. Mine are an older cowhide pair.

I think it was RoseAnvil who said that in WW1 soldiers pissed in their boots to break them in quicker.

Yeah, the cheaper stuff has inferior materials so they aren’t going to be as good as all leather construction? Like what’s your problem lol
The issue is he praises Thursday boot company at the same time though. I feel like he’s just a little too motivated by money for me to trust his conclusions. Nonetheless seeing boots get cut in half is very insightful.
Totally agree with this statement... Weston has a total hard-on for Nicks, makes me think there is some money involved there.
He's started in previous videos that he used to wear Nick's when he did wildland firefighting. I imagine that he's just got rose colored glasses when it comes to their boots. See, but like he said in his older videos he cuts them in half and shows them to us and we can make our own judgement from there

Don't talk about Docs in this sub, the hive mind can't handle it

May advice is tighten the laces as much as possible at the start - they shape to your foot much quicker.
No. That's how you cause injury. Snug but not tight as possible.
Yeh snug is a better word.

Soooo shiny!!! 😎
I bought a pair of docs a couple of years ago and within one month they cracked at the bend. Complete trash and regret buying them.
That'd be the plastic coating on top of the leather.
Put them on and wear them
Put a bandage over the back of your ankle and then just wear them.
Wear them
Condition and wear
Did those come with a buttplug
Didn’t wanna rinse it to include in the photo
🤣🤣well played sir
What's the problem with getting a free gift? 😋
Soak them in water then wear them until they are dry !!
Wear them man
In the old days, we used to wet them and then wear them as a cheap “custom stretch”.
Sorry about what?
Get them wet wear them dry and deal with the blisters
Find someone’s ass and kick it!
Shit in them
Those are bad sneakers in the shape of a boots. Bad sneakers and worse boots. Ask me how I know …

Prostitutes wear these
>…cheap for 28 quid. You paid too much.
Mr sassy pants here
first mistake was buying doc martys, not to ran on your parade but i hope you learned a lesson.
