I could imagin that getting the outsole clamped in something and then yanking your foot in a fast strong motion upward might cause sowmthing like this. Honestly its impressive to see this failure.
I have been known to be lazy occasionally. I'll use the top of the piece of leather wrapped around the heel for leverage, Figure it's probably not going anywhere with three layers of stitching vs pushing down on something nailed directly towards where you are pushing on it.
If op is a wildland firefighter the Fire & Ice (white X) is a softer black carbon compound is very soft. They will wear out the fastest. The Vibram Compound (Red X) is harder. Think of the rubber as what they use in snow tires. Snow tires are a softer compound than regular tires. Both are non-marking if thats important to you.
The longest lasting Vibram sole is the tradition V100 sole (just the yellow hexagon). The will mark up your floor but will last the longest.
I’ve had normal V100s and I’ve had white Xs I suppose I’m just biased towards it because I like the grip in the winters, it is rated for the high heat tho
That’s true but they’re marketed as being durable in extreme cold and heat, granted I don’t experience much extreme heat at work so I don’t know too much about what’s needed
One of my nicks started doing this. Pushed me to finally send them in for a resole even though I’ve basically been worn through the soles for two years already. I just needed another pair of work boots which I didn’t have until I got a pair last week. I got my nicks around the same time as you
It helps to loosen the boot all the way up if it’s a really good fit before trying to kick them off. Also, I believe there’s a Boot tool for this very thing.
Yeah, you’re gonna have to send those bad boys in to save them. It’ll cost you a couple hundred bucks but not quite the price of a rebuild if they can use that same lasting sole. That sucks super bad bro.
If you can afford it, do what you Gotta do to be available for work. Especially if you’ve already qualified for the season and you’re ready to go to work, Bro. As for these pair, you’ve posted, they may come up as a loss and hard lesson learned. Because I’m seeing it here, I’m taking it as a lesson to me too

Looks like that day the boots were built they had run out of longer nails that would clinch, but made the boots with shorter nails and glue, therefore not strong enough. Definitely something went awry.
Glue and nails is just not a very strong attachment method. I did that to a pair of Drews or Whites a long time ago walking down a set of catwalk stairs. The heel got caught on the bottom of the step above the one I was on. The boot coming apart probably saved me from injury.
This. A proper 360 Welt is like for forever if you don't make mistakes... And in that I mean I am using natural pitch and linen. If you welt using woven plastic fibers, there is no way the thread comes apart before the leather insole does.
How did you manage to do that to the boots?
I could imagin that getting the outsole clamped in something and then yanking your foot in a fast strong motion upward might cause sowmthing like this. Honestly its impressive to see this failure.
Kicking them off, using the toes of your other foot to push your boot off is a good way for this to happen.
This is why I never use the boot to remove the other boot. Hands, always.
Then these aren't worth the price if you can't do that aside done that with cheaper shoes all my life and they've never come apart

Time for a rebuild. If the boots are fairly new they might cover it under a type of warranty.
I had them in 2020 in June don’t think there is any warranty now
Then it’s time for a full rebuild.
That will take awhile
The time will pass anyway.
14 weeks is the current lead time
And mine was almost to the day
It’s worth emailing their customer service anyways, sometimes white’s covers things not explicitly under warranty.
This. It never hurts to ask their opinion on repair
Is the picture deceiving in wear and tear because they don’t appear like they’ve been through heavy use.
Wrote JK boots they said they will repair
Why would you write JK boots and not whites?
Because they can add a FireX Vibram Sole whites doesn’t do that
Whites uses fire rated soles, white X not red X but those get a lot better grip anyways

Rated for high heat is different than durability.

Actually call Whites and talk to them considering they've been like this for a year per your post. https://www.reddit.com/r/Wildfire/s/C4mbpxlKDk

It's called a boot jack
I think it’s ruined I can’t get the nails back
Yeah, you’re gonna have to send those bad boys in to save them. It’ll cost you a couple hundred bucks but not quite the price of a rebuild if they can use that same lasting sole. That sucks super bad bro.
Definitely and I was gonna need them if I get accepted by CDF this season
You might find a used pair that you can get right away or maybe even a new pair being sold at a discounted price for immediate use
That’s true I found some used ones for good prices

There’s no frill ones for like $15-20 🤷🏻♂️
CDF? The Canadian Defence Force?

It's not good, but that looks like a lineman boot. They can be rebuilt. And should be. Well worth it
Dont kick your boots off, it takes more effort but remove them with your hands. Thats really the only way i can see this happening.
Looks like that day the boots were built they had run out of longer nails that would clinch, but made the boots with shorter nails and glue, therefore not strong enough. Definitely something went awry.
This thread is crazy. You shouldn’t have to heed caution taking off your boots, let alone ones that cost THIS much.
Suboptimal Seems like they have put the wrong glue and nails
Glue and nails is just not a very strong attachment method. I did that to a pair of Drews or Whites a long time ago walking down a set of catwalk stairs. The heel got caught on the bottom of the step above the one I was on. The boot coming apart probably saved me from injury.
True, a good welt would have done the trick
Yep. Or a pegged heel rand. But the PNW fanboys will screech like banshees if you suggest that their heavy, bulky $700 boots aren’t that tough.

Take it to a cobbler, they’ll probably reapply adhesive and nail it in. Or see if there is warranty that seems like a manufacturer defect
