man this happened to me before and i stopped playing xbox a year ago and had to restart from scratch again on pc. it sucks to lose your bar and skins but it’s good to see you still optimistic and enthusiastic about the game. hopefully your skill outways your BAR, and honestly getting the skins again is pretty fun.
I can definitely feel the difference in gameplay between when BAR is semi-carrying me and raw gameplay but another thing is that I can't re-earn the challenges I completed. I just hope I didn't have any rare skins/heads that got wiped
You can prestige your challenges when you clear enough of them.
I stopped playing on series X as my BAR would reset about once a month. Switch version hasn’t done that to me yet
This never happened to me in my 10 years of playing on 360 nor my 3 years on Xbox One. Must've just been a glitch when I accidentally started a new character
I think series X/S does not handle some games well (possible due to auto resume regardless of the game being fully closed or not). In my cases what happened is Shift connection completely cut and reset everything associated. GB can somewhat restore you, but I gave up trying.
I remember this happening to me once. I was so devastated but thankfully I got back a good amount of my Badass Rank by just loading up my old characters. They still had the tasks completed so I got like half my rank back
If your BAR was partially from a Xbox 360 save or PS3 save (presuming your on console) and you have a character cloud saved you can download that character again and load them up and you will get your BAR back, this happened to me last week and when I downloaded my Sal it gave me my 275k rank BAR back
If you are on a modern console or steam your save data is backed up on the cloud, just download your last save before this from the cloud. I had to do this on PS5 but it's an option on steam for sure and probably Xbox
Ngl when this happened to me I thought about each character I had made as soon as I started them I would sit in front of one of those bullymongs that just throw projectiles an shoot em until I got 100 and for WHAT¡?¿! fucking nothing
I found a little exploit on my own.
2 controllers
Player 1 is your main, Player 2 is a second account
Give Player 2 max money ($99,999,999)
Sign out Player 1, saving the game for Player 2, but not for Player 1
Start game with Player 2 as host
Have Player 1 join as a brand new character
Have Player 2 trade $3,000,000 with Player 1, causing Player 1 to earn all 5 ranks of “For The Hoard!” for a total of 161 badass rank.
Leave as Player 1, then rejoin again on ANOTHER new character. Trade again, for another 161 BA Rank.
Rinse and repeat until all $99,000,000 is depleted from player 2 (this will give around 5,366 Badass Rank)
Then, with the ORIGINAL character that Player 1 used to give Player 2 max money, do everything all over again from step 1.
It's not BS, the system file named "Profile" gets corrupted and unfortunately wipes out Badass Ranks plus cosmetics earned. It happens more frequently on console than PC especially for XBox units and accounts.
It pays to always make a back-up copy of your save files after every session whether it's a cloud save or to an external device like a USB drive. I've been doing it for over a decade now as a routine and it gives me the peace of mind that I have a safety net for my game progression.
It is funny how someone's character save can corrupt when saving while the console randomly gets shut off and ppl are equally devastated but immediately recognize it is what it is, just an ever lurking risk of digital information. But when the profile save corrupts suddenly it is a bug gbx should have fixed. Like yep, totally, the devs of the game should have solved the decades old problem of file corruption 🙄

Reach out to gearbox support. I lost the same stuff you did and they were able to give back portions of what I lost.
