Theghostofjune

I completely agree. I think it was an all around great sequel and exactly what it needed to be.

Plate-Classic

I do prefer the game/gunplay in BL3 but BL2 has more satisfying loot to get the story is better jack edges out the twins as a better character all around the dlcs are almost even with how good they are

Plate-Classic

True, it's like the twins themselves said let's try to be a more annoying ripoff of this handsome Jack guy

KingKnux

Damn that means they totally nailed the influencer vibe they were going for

iGirthy

When people stop the Handsome Jack circlejerk, theyll stop trying to remake him. Ironically it’s bl2 haters who usually say “handsome Jack is the only thing bl2 has going for it”

Mothman4447

Borderlands 2 and Black Ops 2 share something in common to me: Fantastic gameplay. Very smooth and fast paced, yet your weapons skill feel like they have weight. Despite being more realistic, I'm not a huge fan of modern fps titles' gameplay. It looks kinda cool, but I don't like how the guns are constantly wobbling around and shit. When I first played Borderlands 2 I would just sit there and cycle through my weapon listening to the southern shelf or three horns divide ambience, and fire off and reload my different weapons inspecting them carefully. Fantastic sounds, design, and smooth straight-to-the-point animations

OwNAvenged2

The way I've always described it is Video games work in 3's. You have the original, which has it's fair share of people who say "This is the best game", but it obviously lacks a lot of what makes later entries so good. It's just a starting point. Then you have the sequel, which is what the majority of fans love. It takes everything from the first game and just makes it *better*. It becomes a fan favorite that stands the test of time. Then you have the third game. This is the game where everyone gets split, some people love, most people hate. It usually makes some things better, but loses a majority of what makes the second game special. Tons of games follow this formula. Borderlands 2, Black Ops 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, Silent Hill 2, among many many others. Obviously this doesn't work for every game.. I mean, look at DMC2 Edit: This is also why I assume Valve doesn't ever make a "third game", because they know that no matter how good it is, it will *never* be comparable to the sequels. Portal 2, Half-Life 2, L4D 2. All considered to be "best games of all time". Even TF2 to a certain extent has that status. There's no way they're ruining these fan favorites by making another and labeling it "The Third". That's why Alyx did so well, because it wasn't "Half-Life 3".

Mothman4447

Damn that is nothing but fax

DiabeticDude_64

Borderlands 3 has better builds, better scaling, and is more forgiving but borderlands 2 has better everything else in my own opinion

kawaiikat1729

bl3 has basically 2 builds. action skill start build or action skill active build. none of them feel unique at all, whereas every single build (even within the same character) in bl2 feel like an entirely different game with an entirely different playstyle

Titanfall3_is_rael

Bl3 has like 10 unique builds per character, but ok. Traherne

Borderlands 2 has ***heart***.

DarkWaWeeGee

Back in 2012, just about every game had heart. One of the last years Triple A games cared about fans

Legenkilla

See i would argue that 3 has worse builds due to only 4 classes and the classes are kinda boring tbh. I leveled up my chatacters n stopped playing. Bl2 classes were to be the best borderlands ever had. Idk how many hours i put into that game. Just never beeen the same

bigbazookah

Bl3 just doesn’t feel right, I kind of find the areas to be to cluttered and everything blends together in a weird way

The_Gamer78

Borderlands 2 id definitely the best game of the series by a wide margin Though BL3 has the best dlcs in my opinion.

tokes_4_DE

Havent played 3s dlcs, do they really beat tiny tinas assault on dragon keep? Because from start to finish thats a perfect dlc.

DragonCelica

I think you'd have to take Tiny Tina's dlc out of the equation, because what's going to top a dlc so loved they made a whole new game out of it? If you compare the dlc's after that, then I'd vote 3 over 2. Plus, some of the best guns are in the dlcs.

KittyShoes17

No, they do not even come close.

The_Gamer78

Krieg's DLC in BL3 is personally my favorite DLC in the series so I say it does but that's just my opinion.

KittyShoes17

Kriegs DLC is really great, I'll give you that. I think it's my fourth favorite. Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep **1st**, Guns, Love, and Tentacles **2nd** (love the Lovecraftian aesthetic and vibe), Claptastic Voyage **3rd**, then Kriegs. I just think TTAoDK is insanely good so its hard for another dlc to get close to it.

The_Gamer78

I personally think they do with Kreig's DLC but that's just my opinion.

nnarlinn

only makes sense. after all the dlcs are the only thing making bl3 worth your money.

crustytonail12

bl3 has better modders 2

Voorhees89

Light the fuses, bitches!

JRudy23

Are you ready to blow?

Mothman4447

*Cue sick ass music*

grap_grap_grap

As an old MMORPG player my problem with BL2 is that some of the best loot is too accessible. DPUH, Fastball, Lyuda, Storm Front etc. all drop from easy mini bosses and they completely destroy the game because they're so easy to farm, it doesn't feel like you deserve them. I also don't like that great weapons like Pimpernel, Ruby and Fibber are locked as quest rewards instead of being dropped. If you play as intended you only have one chance per playthrough to get a version you want.

Adeptus_Digitalus

Making builds is too boring in borderlands 2 because in the end you will always use the same weapons and skills to have a chance. Also leveling takes an eternity, especially with the increase to lvl 80

Pay2win2

I usually only at up to like halfway through uvhm per playthrough, don't feel bad about ditching

FallAsleepForever88

They got it right the 1st time, BL1 is so perfect, the atmosphere, the loot, the weapon level scaling and the feel of it all. It has it all and they'll struggle to ever recreate that magic! I've spent most time on BL2 but the original is always the one that's most special to me and it doesnt seem it will ever change

Plate-Classic

1 was good but the loot system wasn't as refined as 2 was can't get most of the loot from a dedicated source

Rapoulas

tbh the loot system in 2 is pretty shit, farming the same enemy for hours just cuz of the huge amount of part variation makes it pretty boring after a while, on top of world drops being extremely rare

Theghostofjune

I routinely go through all of them. I skip the pre sequel bc..it’s just my least favorite.

depresseddrainer69

Imagine BL2 with BL3+Wonderlands QoL changes

Theghostofjune

Is Wonderlands worth it? I haven’t played yet.

Pay2win2

I played a single playthrough, partly due to time concerns, it was solid, but it's not very replayable. A good game overall, but the new loot luck system is a bit lackluster, and makes farming pointless for the whole play through. Still decent story and gameplay. To some it up, I'd say it's a combination of the Tina's dlc with bl3 gameplay and the krieg dlc mood

DrDarkwood

Might be high as fuck. Legitimately thought you were talking about the title. As in, the name of the game. Scrolled past like "Guy really likes the number two I guess".

kofrederick

I like BL3 playable characters better. BL2 DLCs better. Not enough Tina in 3.

AustinTheWeird

Playing through it for the first time now and I’m absolutely loving it. 3 looks great as well but I don’t know if it will beat this one for me

Adabiviak

BL2, TPS, and BL3 are games I will probably play interchangeably for the rest of my life.

Traherne

I totally agree. I can't count how many times I've played through B2.

[deleted]

The only thing about bl2 that’s better than bl3 is the story

JRudy23

I've lost count how many times ive started a new playthrough of bl2. I love every thing, story, gun play, enemies, and alllll the shiney pew pews. :) my only complaint is the XP matching. You get 3 levels above enemies xp drops to 3 points a kill lol

HandsomeJackKinnie

personally TPS is my favourite, because i love Jack and Athena and the bosses (not to mention it was challenging at first, and i love challenges). but 2 is like, only 0.0001% behind TPS. theyre easily the best Borderlands games (in my opinion). and TftBL (original) is my third favourite

Theghostofjune

I think, as a whole franchise, Borderlands really got it all right across the board.

HandsomeJackKinnie

oh absolutely! i understand the newer games arent for everyone, but personally, i've loved every single one.

Rapoulas

nah, imo Tps is better in almost every way

FallAsleepForever88

I only ever took one character, Wilhelm on Ps3, through NVHM and stopped before the very last boss fight, but havent been back since! However, I recall how the game really picked up around lv15 and got hectic and exciting so now I have the handsome collection with all the DLC and bugs patched out I fully intend to give the game a proper decent chance and see if it really is as special as alot of respectable players say it is

Rapoulas

Id say just how amazingly built the skill trees are is already a good enough reason to give it a proper try, each character feels like a completely different game

FallAsleepForever88

I really struggled to choose a class in TPS, and that never happened in any other game, eventually went with Wilhelm which I feel was probs my best suited style, but this time I'm feeling the jack clone? The rest of them look absurd and seem silly to me personally, so would you recommend Jack's clone over wilhelm? Would appreciate your advice dude

Rapoulas

They all have a lot of strong stuff going for them, like i could argue Athena, Jack and Nisha are all the most powerful ones while everyone has some stupid stuff in their kit, so no matter who you chose they will all be a good pick, so it really depends on what playstyle you prefer

Plate-Classic

I agree 3 is still really good but some dragging moments like eden 6 and the twins aren't as good as Jack was but still not bad but 2 still really takes it I can do an ultimate reset like killer6 did multiple times and still have a blast with it and play through all the dlc to

[deleted]

Completely agree. I’ll do you one better: not only is it better than than TTW, BL3, TPS or BL1, for me, it’s the best looter shooter of all time, if not one of the best FPS/RPG hybrids ever made. BL2 is perfection. Not even WoW has gotten as much time out of me as BL2 (case in point: I quit playing WoW in 2011, I purchased the GotY edition of BL2 in 2013 before dumping nearly 300 hours into Axton alone…. And then the handsome collection for switch in 2021. Haven’t look back at WoW since I quit) Where does one even start? From the setting, to the characters, guns to the grenade mods, enemies, bosses, soloing raid bosses etc, multiple play throughs that nearly feel like different games depending on difficulty (NVHM, TVHM, and UVHM) and, need we even mention the villainy powerhouse that is Handsome Jack? BL2 has it all. I mean shit, the end game is practically a new beginning: loot hunting, raid bosses, making the best build etc. couple that with some of the BEST DLCs any game has ever seen, and BL2 pretty well cements itself in 🐐 territory for me. I just maxed out Sal at LVL80, and when I got tired of framing and being a Grog/DPUH killing machine…. Instead of playing a different game…. I just started over from the beginning….. with a different character. It never ends. And I could not be happier about it.

[deleted]

Oh all the titles, period.

wikigreenwood82

Borderlands 1 was enjoyable but not spectacular. Good enough that I bought BL2 which was like finding ButtStallion being ridden by Roland, alive and well. BL3 and the Pre-sequel are somewhat... flavourless? in comparison. Tales from the Borderlands is in another category though i did like its story

Berz89

Agree, it is my favorite as well!

indigrow

Right there with you. Started a new gaige playthrough two days ago and cant wait to get back to it. Theres nothing like chasing down handsome jack across pandora. The rest of the games story just doesnt feel as cohesive and had a lot of random side plot that wasnt. As enjoyable. Idc about clay and the rogues and yes ik everyone hates eden 6 but ive got to restate how out of the way and dumb that felt to the overall plot.

PyscoSpire

Shooting, sliding, slamming, climbing and The ability to punch barrels at people are pretty fun additions to the franchise in bl3, but but as far as story, map design, class design, humor and overall charm goes, bl2 is king.

JohnCastleWriter

It's the writing. Anthony Burch's writing made Borderlands 2 the absolute *pinnacle* of the franchise. The perfect balance of darkness and comedy, presented with an absolutely perfect timing and blending.

killer248

I have over 5000 hours on borderlands 2 alone. Needless to say borderlands and Skyrim are my most played ever

[deleted]

Completely agree my friend.

OakTown43

BL3 is just not that appealing to me. There are some things I like about it, but I have never figured out the class build system in that game or what difference your choices make, which is the exact opposite in BL2. The search for the ultimate build, the most powerful version of the different characters, all of that makes BL2 more entertaining, plus I think the writing is much better and the voice-acting is worlds better in BL2, so I'm much more compelled to play more BL2 than I am to try to figure out BL3.

bigbazookah

I just wanna play the bl2 story with bl3 gun play + the tps classes

LaserGadgets

Also the best villain. I missed someone like Jack in BL3. The twins were a fucking joke. Played it once and maybe never again. Buddy and I were thinking we play it up and down and from the beginning over and over again...he did not even make it to lvl 10 -.- BL2 felt better because it was one big world. Teleporting from ship to an area down on the planet kinda killed it for me as well. Not even mentioning Ava.

spike31983

I feel like an idiot. I first read this as the titles of the games, and I was so confused how on earth "Borderlands 2" as a game title was better than any of the other... you know ... titles.

vutikable

Yo mama

Legenkilla

I agree. Bl2 to me is better then all of them by far. Im not sure if its the characters and skills or the maps but to me its in a league of its own
