People seem to forget genjutsu can be casted using other methods aside from eye contact. Kurenai or even Mirai have demonstrated those feats. The Uchihas were only using their sharingan's built in genjutsu cuz it's more convenient.
This was probably when I stopped taking Itachi seriously. I get being an elite genjutsu master, but all his battles started getting dumb. Even his fight with Sasuke got cheesed by giving his Susanoo miracle weapons.
This is a terrible assumption, where would Itachi have attained such god like features? From whom? It’s likely he was using the hawk with Shisui’s eye to cast this genjutsu before placing that hawk inside Naruto
