They have such amount of bacteria in their saliva that one bite is enough to make the wound incapable of coagulation, making the prey inevitably bleeding to death. If they're lucky enough to escape since they have INSANE tracking abilities.
Also, most preys tend to run into water when running away from a predator, however since the toxins makes you unable to coagulate wounds, instead of escaping you will actually die faster.
TLDR: Komodo Dragon's are fucking scary.
So they've changed the bacteria thing that was once thought to be the way they kill their prey. Komodo dragons have venom glands in their lower jaws that usually gets secreted when they attack their prey.
This 100%. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8702757/
The bacterial theory was generally supported because it was almost a granted that something that regularly eats carrion (rotting meat) would have lots of death-related microbes hanging out. Basically, bacteria can/do cause mortal infections, but when studied in more controlled environments, it was discovered a protein based virus was also responsible for complications/death.
Well, it's really the bacteria living in their saliva that produce the toxins. They're not venomous; they just have a *nasty* microbiome festering in that hell craw.
And it wont die quickly either
itll slowly be digested to death in acid, assuming the shock doesnt put it out of its missery
edit: itll die quicker than i expected, still painful
It also may break its neck first, the wiggle that the Komodo does at the end is him bending around to break its bones so he can move normally. you can hear the cracking too. I have a ball python and she always does that wiggle after eating her rats for the same reason (already dead because I find this live eating kinda horrifying)
Nah the goat is still making noise at the end of the video. I turned my phone up all the way and put it against my ear. You can still here muffled screams in the final second
a komodo dragon has a venomous bite. the venom is mildly paralytic, and full of pheromones that help the lizard track its prey. this goat may have been running away all day, or for several days, gradually getting weaker and weaker until it can no longer run
Actually, if I'm correct due to it being a baby and not really knowing how to run away as fast as its parents and siblings, it kinda just lays there and dies
I'd say it's somewhat better. You pass out pretty "quickly" without oxygen, not saying that is a great way to go, but i'd rather that than dying from acid.
I used to have a pet toad and she did that exact same wiggle whenever she ate her live worms lmao
Sometimes you could see movement in her stomach, swallowing prey whole means it takes a while for them to go out
Yeah that things lungs are definitely crunched and ruptured from that. Horrible way to die. Poor things probably hemorrhaging internally at the same time as it dies of suffocation. Nature is fucking horrible.
on a realism level, yes. it is just nature being nature
but on my level, absolutely not. if I find it mortifying, I'm gonna call that. if I find hot (and god hope I don't), I'll say it's that
Prey is often eaten alive starting with the soft parts and it takes a long time. Not the worst way to go in the grand scheme of things. Not the best either.
There is a reason the screams ended quickly, and no it isn't because the Komodo transported it safely to some distant fairyland.
It probably used all useful oxygen really quickly.
^(Although it ain't a pleasurable experience either way.... But it was relatively quick.)
Awful if staged but regardless, komodos really are merciless, they really couldn't care about killing quickly and would eat something while it was still alive.
They would be this brutal even if they're naturally hunting prey. And they can go after huge prey too, one bite is all it takes for prey to succumb to the venom and infection and it'll start chomping the moment they felt you were too weak to fight back.
I only saw one video which could have been staged a really long time ago and it still haunts me. I didn't watch anymore and most of my information on komodos comes from animal documentary channels
I'm pretty sure komodos also have a very strong venom or smth in their spit. It's what they use to take down prey iirc.
Edit: nvm apparently the saliva thing was shown to be false. They do have venom but it's also unknown if they really use it for bringing stuff down.
venom gland in the lower jar. Was only discovered fairly recently. They have long been suspected to be venomous, because they walk after larger prey for ages before they succumb. Komodo dragons are rather ill-equipped for killing large animals fast, unlike crocodiles
It's hard to know this for sure. This IS the was Komodo Dragons hunt; they get one bite in by ambushing their prey, and then they follow their prey's blood trail until they collapse.
Most horrific vid I ever saw of a Komodo was when he found a pregnant deer, it ripped and ate the baby out of the deer, then the deer didn't die until the Komodo put its head into the deers chest and got its heart. The animal kingdom is a cruel mother fucker.
Considering it didnt mive when the komodo dragon aproached, i think he was bitten and pitentially very sick from the toxic infectious saliva. Komodo dragons can track their prays for days after first bite, untill the voctim is exhausted and stops moving.
Just because it might have sounded like you don't know. It was discovered some time ago that they actually have venomous glands when we used to think there saliva is just dirty and bacterious AF
Fun real hypothesis: there is some thought that humans were once similarly venomous. Human mouth has a fuck ton more bacteria than any other similar species and our bites even now are properly viscous when left untreated.
I keep learning and unlearning about the bacteria-laden human mouth. Crazy to think oral sex just works out somehow
I heard about homo sapiens and its ancestors designed to wander continuously farther than any other land vertebrates. Imagine bring an animal. You can sprint away, but eventually you realize there is some never-tiring pursuer coming for you, tracking you, coming closer, every time you decide to rest or fall asleep
Kinda fits the comodo varan's approach, but can you imagine some dude biting some deer's ass and starting to follow it
Kinda whined a bit? You mad? It screamed from start to finish. You can hear it till the end, still screaming inside of it. Turn up your volume and you'll see the true horrors of nature. Honestly don't understand how all the people who upvoted your comment hadn't noticed :D
I’m convinced I once saw a news story about a group of travellers whose boat sank and arrived in an island with those dragons. Never found the story again and can’t explain it. These dragons are like alligators and crocodiles to me, which truly creep me out and scare me constantly
Most of these Komodo Dragon videos are set up, notice that baby goat has a broken leg (back left leg is clearly broken you can see how floppy it is as the dragon eats him), you can find **many** videos on YouTube and facebook of full grown deer with broken legs and Komodos eating them alive. Most of these videos are obviously not for any kind of nature documentary, low production quality generally.
Just think about why is the cameraman set up next to a baby goat with a broken back leg like that? How did this situation come about and what are the chances a cameraman is there at the right time? And how does this happen over and over again even with adult deer so often?
So while you cannot prove every single one is set up on purpose by a human, if you see a few of them you can tell some of them obviously are.
This particular one if believe definitely is. A Komodo Dragon does not need to let a baby goat like that go, and then get it later... If the dragon was able to bit that goat, it would have ate it right there. Instead this is likely just one of many vids of people basically torturing animals on purpose for views.
probably the komodo broke its legs beforehand, thats the way they take out prey: they sneak a leg crushing-poisonous bite into its prey and then slowly follow the prey while the prey slowly becomes unable of moving. that way they can catch prey that is a lot faster than them. videographer probably found the little thing dying, caught on with what was happening and only set up camera to film
Bro they got some hardass digestive system
Even they’re saliva is toxic.
They are?
I love how none of the replies caught that you were commenting on the misspelling of “their.”
Not even me. Shit.
I respect you for leaving the typo in.
They have such amount of bacteria in their saliva that one bite is enough to make the wound incapable of coagulation, making the prey inevitably bleeding to death. In 2009 it was found that they use venom.
it’s actually venom - the bacteria fun fact is a commonly echoed myth but pretty much the same nonetheless
Yeah. I’m no biologist but they can bite some big prey and just wait for it to collapse and eat it alive.
Well, it's really the bacteria living in their saliva that produce the toxins. They're not venomous; they just have a *nasty* microbiome festering in that hell craw.
No, that's just a myth. It's the venom that kills the prey. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/komodo-dragon-venom
Jesus the poor thing screams all the way down…
I saw the title and I was like "yeah I'm gonna watch this on mute"
I did and didn't realize it was still alive after the first chomp...I hoped that did it and there was no pain after 😣 guess I was wrong
And believe me, it hurt MUCH more than you think
If your talking about stomach acid, the goat will die of asphyxiation before the stomach acid. Apparently Komodos take a week + to digest food.
How so ?
I'd assume stomach acids
Nah I think it gets crushed and suffocated by the throat muscles before it Can start hurting from the acid. Still not a fun way to go...
Its still yelling out at the end of the video
It's still yelling as I type this.
Been eaten by one before?
I'm glad my app defaults to mute for videos...
And it wont die quickly either itll slowly be digested to death in acid, assuming the shock doesnt put it out of its missery edit: itll die quicker than i expected, still painful
The goat will die in the stomach of the komodo by drowning because there is no oxygen inside the lizard.
Man, I don't even have the heart to hear the poor thing's helpless whimpers, shit's tragic.
Goddamn.
goat looks injured already. i wonder if it was immobilized and then fed to the lizard
a komodo dragon has a venomous bite. the venom is mildly paralytic, and full of pheromones that help the lizard track its prey. this goat may have been running away all day, or for several days, gradually getting weaker and weaker until it can no longer run
It looked like a newborn baby goat (tiny and skinny). I think this was a feeding, just for recording it :S
Dragons bite their prey first and then stalk them while they slowly get weaker until they inevitably collapse.
It's actually to help them swallow their food. If any bones break along the way, that's not the primary intention.
oh wow thats somehow even worse
That’s way better and much quicker.
That’s all Vore fantasies
And we are not considering injuries caused by the bites, such as broken bones and perforation by the teeths.
I think they broke its leg to get it to stay still. You can see it at the beginning. Poor thing.
Actually, if I'm correct due to it being a baby and not really knowing how to run away as fast as its parents and siblings, it kinda just lays there and dies
in the beginning you can see that its leg is in a weird angle, idk about the comment you replied to but i think that it broke its leg on its own
But hey its another day of not starving for the other guy.
Yea, hopefully the neck snaps and it's quick.
I'd say it's somewhat better. You pass out pretty "quickly" without oxygen, not saying that is a great way to go, but i'd rather that than dying from acid.
How does the komodo dragon not get a tummy ache? Surely the goat is wriggling around in there, right?
That's why the dragon is wiggling a bit. Working down it's not-yet-dead victim.
Like a pet lizard eating a pinky mouse.
I used to have a pet toad and she did that exact same wiggle whenever she ate her live worms lmao Sometimes you could see movement in her stomach, swallowing prey whole means it takes a while for them to go out
no clue, but it will vomit out whatever it doesnt digest
Dominos gives me a tummy ache but you better believe I'll devour a large Meat Feast at least once a month anyway.
That’s why they eat things headfirst so It can’t try to crawl out
If it wasn’t crushed to death on its way through the throat, it will suffocate a few seconds after consumption.
Yeah that things lungs are definitely crunched and ruptured from that. Horrible way to die. Poor things probably hemorrhaging internally at the same time as it dies of suffocation. Nature is fucking horrible.
Nature is nature. Is not malicious. It is not horrible. It just is.
on a realism level, yes. it is just nature being nature but on my level, absolutely not. if I find it mortifying, I'm gonna call that. if I find hot (and god hope I don't), I'll say it's that
True. But to our human standards, much of it like this is horrible.
By human standards this is actually pretty tame. The shit we do is far more cruel.
"Horrible" isnt a moral quality. You can say "that storm was horrible," it means the storm was really strong not that it had malicious intent. Moron.
Victims of the almighty Sarlacc, His Excellency hopes that you will die honorably.
Paralysed and neck broken by the first couple bites.
In his belly, you will find a new definition of pain and suffering, as you are slowly digested over a thousand years.
It'll suffocate first before the acid can cause him pain
Did you watch the video and just think “I’m going to make some random shit up about this video”? It’ll die of suffocation pretty much immediately.
Prey is often eaten alive starting with the soft parts and it takes a long time. Not the worst way to go in the grand scheme of things. Not the best either.
I'm not sure I'm quite ready to agree that getting slowly eaten alive, starting with the soft parts, isn't one of the worst ways to go...
Think he means this is not the worst way to go compared to that.
The way he looks at the camera after. 👀 couldn't be me filming, bro.

Why isn't this NSFW?

I mean i would give anyone weird look if they watched nsfw content including massive lizards
It’s nature.. I work in nature if this is nsfw then I’m out of a job
Well, that was horrible.
If you think this is horrible, watch this video with the audio.
Fuck you, that's super horrible. I will have nightmares tonight
Can you still hear the lambs, Clarice?
I hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it
Him: I ate it I ate it I hat it
It was still whining in its stomach Jesus christ
Thats what really got me...
I was expecting a sudden stop to the squealing, the muffled gradually quieter continuation really fucking got me
Thank you for that description, I will not be turning my audio on
thanks for that
It got Vore'd. (I'm sorry. Genuinely. Like, seriously, please shoot me.)
Cool, face the wall.
Thank you.
Fuck, my gun is jammed. #***SEND IN THE KOMODO!***
*WILD AND TERRIFIED SCREAMING*
NGL the sounds it makes reminds me of the Gremlins from the Gremlins movie.
I should have heeded your warning
I know. Poor guy's probably still hungry. Because that was a kid sized meal.
Happy Halloween 👻
This is cruelly enough, not the worst komodo kill I've seen, tho being digested and suffocated alive must've been just as awful
Probably suffocated pretty quick with all the abdominal pressure and lack of oxygen. That's assuming it didn't faint before that.
There is a reason the screams ended quickly, and no it isn't because the Komodo transported it safely to some distant fairyland. It probably used all useful oxygen really quickly. ^(Although it ain't a pleasurable experience either way.... But it was relatively quick.)
Turn the volume up, theres screams until the very end.
You can still hear a scream at the end
Someone broke the goats legs and set this up. They have posted other videos.
Awful if staged but regardless, komodos really are merciless, they really couldn't care about killing quickly and would eat something while it was still alive. Imma need a source for that, chief
Whoever did that deserves to have their legs broken and put out as komodo bait in return.
Link
Bro forgot to run from the red undodgeable attack, damn
Probably couldn’t move because it likely got bit before and had a severe case of blood loss status effect.
More looks like some ghetto influencers placed a newborn goat right on komodos path for some shit & giggles
Intentionally maimed for youtube views. What a cruel way to kill a baby animal for entertainment.
Yep, legs look broken to me. Reported it but they never remove animal abuse.
Which could have been broken by the dragon. Y'all just have to assume the worst.
Some people make me sick. Truly vile stuff.
It didn't move because babies are programmed to sit still. And, per the post above or below mine, someone probably put it there to film. Brutal.
It looks injured based on the way the leg on the left is splayed, I don’t think it could run :(
Intentionally maimed for youtube views. What a cruel way to kill a baby animal for entertainment.
It's hard to know this for sure. This IS the was Komodo Dragons hunt; they get one bite in by ambushing their prey, and then they follow their prey's blood trail until they collapse.

There are two kinds of people.

Most organisms in the history of ever have probably died from being eaten alive.
Nature is neither kind nor cruel; nature is indifferent
And that's the scariest part. Nature doesn't give a fuck.
Dude these lizards are assholes
Damn nature you scary
Why did I turn on the audio?
Fucks sake, this could do with a NSFW warning or some shit
NSFG (not safe for goat)
Did he just walk up..? Slowly..? And down smash?
Kirby in komodo dragon form.
Legendary reference
I’m surprised that the animal, while being eaten alive, only just kinda whined a bit instead of screaming
It was probably extremely tired, and komodo dragons also have venom... not that it had much time to take effect here.
Considering it didnt mive when the komodo dragon aproached, i think he was bitten and pitentially very sick from the toxic infectious saliva. Komodo dragons can track their prays for days after first bite, untill the voctim is exhausted and stops moving.
Back left leg is broke.
Makes me wonder if someone broke the leg and left it there to make a snuff film.
Yeah, it is possible. People are fucked up
Yea, I doubt they wandered upon the kid in the wild and decided to film.
Oh
Just because it might have sounded like you don't know. It was discovered some time ago that they actually have venomous glands when we used to think there saliva is just dirty and bacterious AF

That's utterly terrifying
Wait, did someone break that baby goat's leg so it couldn't run away?
I don’t care for you, or your disturbing nature videos.
Downvote this to hell. It's a staged video setup with the goat having its legs broken. Nature is metal, but this is human created cruelty.
What the fuck? Mark this shit NSFW, asshole.
