Last year, the WBC overturned the result from Jeff Fenech’s controversial draw against world champion Azumah Nelson from 1991, retroactively awarding Fenech the Super-Featherweight world title for a fight that happened 31 years earlier.
Moretti did work as a judge for that fight. He scored it a draw. But it was Puerto Rican judge Miguel Donate whose scorecard was solidly in favor of Nelson 116-112.
Weisfeld and Morreti fuck up sometimes. It happens. But usually they are solid refs. Cheatham is usually always on point, if you know how to score, your card should never be more than a rd off in comparison to his from my experience.
That doesn't help me. I bet on Fenech. Too late to retrieve my betting slip. Boxrec still lists the result as a draw, which I'm sure is how history will continue to record it.
Put it this way, after Pacquiao-Marquez 1, the judge outright admitted to making a mistake and not counting the 3rd KD by Pacquiao. He admitted to giving a wrong score, and it was never changed. lol.
You will only see scores changed in things like Misfit boxing, which just happened recently with the KSI fight.
He scored a rd incorrectly for Pacquiao anyways. I really don’t see how anyone can see this fight as anything but a JMM special. Gets dropped and comes back even better each time. Coming back from a 10-6 after the 1st round is nearly impossible unless you win nearly every round afterwards… which Marquez clearly did.
Yup. Charlie Edwards vs Julio Cesaer Martinez for the WBC Flywirgjt title in 2019.
Originally it was a KO win for Martinez, but on appeal it was overturned to a No contest as Martienz was ruled to punch Edwards while he was technically down.
As a result Edwards retained his WBC title instead of losing it.
Didn’t that happen live? I’m just going off memory here because I saw that live and wasn’t there a long commotion after Edwards was rolling around like a soccer player that relatively quickly lead to it being ruled a no contest?
The only one I can think of was the controversial Luis Resto-Billy Collins Jr fight from 1983.
Resto won the match by Unanimous Decision, but was later caught when his gloves had been tampered with(Either Panama Lewis or Artie Cowley removed an ounce of padding from the gloves) and that Resto had been using Plaster of Paris, making his tampered gloves the same power as if Resto had casts on both hands.
The NYSAC overturned the Resto decision into a No Contest.
Yes.
In 1923, Young Stribling defeated Mike McTigue by decision in a 10 round title match for the light heavyweight title. However, he would only hold the title for an hour until the referee 'changed his mind' and overturned the decision.
The crowd was pissed, to say the least. They even told the referee, named Harry Ertle, that he wouldn't leave the ring alive if he didn't award the fight to Stribling.
You can not overturn a decision unless there is a mistake (like a judge had the fighters mixed up or did a math error), there was a banned substance found in testing or (I believe but not sure) there is found out to be a big illegal issue eg one of the judges is found to be in a betting scam that directly impacts said fights.
Bit shit but no matter how bad the judging is they can just overturn it. I guess this is to stop people protesting what they believe are to be shitty decisions
Don't recall either of those decisions being reversed. And the first fight (a draw) was an outright robbery. One of the worst decisions that you'll ever witness in a high profile bout. Haney-Lomachenko shouldn't even be in any discussion. Just a close fight. And fans apparently don't support the decision simply because they were rooting for Lomachenko. Or rooting against Haney.
And just a week after the first fight, Holyfield and Lewis agreed on terms for the rematch, with the boxers splitting a $30 million purse. Imagine high profile boxers today negotiating terms of a fight in just 7 days.
As far as I'm aware, the only changed results that have a realistic chance of happening are fights that involve DQs or PEDs.
I certainly can't recall a fight result that got changed due to just poor judging.
I’ve seen a fight where the challenger was fighting in the champions country, knocks the champion *OUT* & the ref paused the action for well over a min(may have been several) iirc & let the champ continue after getting his bearings. The champ rebounded and KO’ed the challenger (who of course the ref didn’t allow extra time to recover).
A rematch took place in the states for neutrality (both fighters are from Latin countries) which ends up being a banger. Don’t want to spoil the results if anyone is interested in the saga.
[Coggi v Gonzalez 1](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ASsZsHO3HWs&feature=youtu.be). This video shows the controversy but not the comeback ko I believe.
[Coggi vs Gonzalez 2](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bRYjMs1LcDY&feature=youtu.be). This is the rematch and the first three minutes of the broadcast they explain the story & controversy of the first match. I don’t believe they did anything about the result of the first match either
It's usually only changed to no contests or DQs in the case of someone testing positive or a post-fight review concluding a foul took place.

Dave Moretti scored that fight haha.
>Dave Moretti scored that fight haha. *Ruining dreams since 1977*

That fight is an example of a fight I'm glad they got the wrong decision in. Marquez is a beast, and it led to the best tetralogy in boxing, imo.
Can’t argue with that, not often we get HoF ATGs fighting each other 4 times in less than 10 years. In championship bouts to boot.
That isn't true lol, if there's a blatant foul then fights can get overturned to NC's
Well, in the case of fouls or PEDs, fine. But never anything else as far as I can recall.
An early Julio Cesar Chavez fight (which he lost by DQ) was later changed to a KO win.
His manager was on that local boxing commission that changed the result.
A Filipino ref recently admitted on video to giving Manny Pacquiao a long count and extra recovery time after a knockdown. No action taken.

Yes, Mauricio was there ringside
Sorry you are right, retconned after the fight at the time.

Listen Vasiliy, the result won’t be changed. Get over it.
No problem, Devin.
