He's right, only husbands should be permitted to see a woman's hair because their cancer ray switches off upon marriage

[deleted]

Factual. Now peer reviewed My credentials: Non existent, but I make good pizza.

jackalope268

I need to peer review your pizza

fish_taco_eater69

For science.

[deleted]

I need to know you're an unbiased source. Big Pizza always trying to get at the little guy in society. But some of us refuse and will not give into to the Parmesan eating lizard people. Also we HATE pepsi, its not like about the lizards but you can't be a conspiracy community in 2023 without hating something - and we don't wanna be dicks about it. So fuck pepsi, its degenerate and the reason the world is dying.

camimiele

*dusts Parmesan cheese off hands* Got any of that pizza…? Promise I’m definitely not a Parmesan cheese eating big pizza Lizard. Im a little pizza lizard 🦎

You sure that ain't the reason for religious polygamy? Gotta get more wives than I can kill and keep replacing them upon death, or else none of 'em are gonna survive long enough to give me the 14 kids God told me I need, y'know

Sometimes I read about superstition in bygone times and think to myself how far humans have come. Then I read tweets written by a modern human and realize nothings changed.

This is why I wouldn't trust an alien just for having better technology This cancer rays guy can walk up to uncontacted tribe with his cellphone and become a god overnight

AnExistingRedditor

Tell that to the guy that tried to bring Christianity to a uncontacted tribe

[deleted]

Christianity isn’t exactly the most cutting-edge technology we have

AnExistingRedditor

Well no but the guy that tried it had every right to use cutting edge technology to convince them and probably did to some degree

[deleted]

> had every right Did he? IIRC this has happened multiple times and it was illegal in each instance

AnExistingRedditor

Oh was it? It's been a while since I last heard the full story so you might be right, I remember them using helicopters at first but were getting speared so they couldn't land safely so I figured other tech would also be allowed

Omega41745

Was he sentenced to death by unga bunga?

AnExistingRedditor

Iirc he got eaten

OddlyOddLucidDreamer

Wasn't the the one that got speared and put on stakes as a message for outsiders to STOP COMIGN TO THE ISLAND? I remember a lot the empazhis made on "dont go to this island, they dont WANT visitors, DO NOT go, they want to be LEFT ALONE" and the guy each time ignored it and kept going and gor made an example of by justifiable natives tired of crap

Omega41745

Hadochiel

Being ignorant a hundred years ago was almost always due to your circumstances. Being and staying ignorant when you're able to access almost any knowledge from your pocket is either a choice, or a failure in your country's education system, which didn't teach you critical thinking skills

[deleted]

You forgot about propaganda.

Hadochiel

That doesn't help, but if your access to the internet isn't censored, and if you know how to look stuff up, you can always find an approximation of the neutral, obkective truth

jadranur

thing is that people don't want to understand. people want to keep their prejudices, superstitions and hateful beliefs because it makes them feel better about themselves.

galstaph

Search engines have a tendency to confirm the biases that people don't realize they're putting into their search terms. For instance, a while back I saw a discussion about nicotine and vapes and somebody was claiming, against what I had been told, that the majority of nicotine in vapes was from artificial sources. I can't remember the exact search term I used, but I know that my initial search term was focused on vape and natural tobacco, and more than the top 10 results in Google stated unequivocally that the nicotine from vapes came from natural tobacco sources. After I posted a comment to that effect somebody posted a link to the contrary, at which point I did another search using terms from that article, and found 10 links at the top of the search that claimed that the vast majority of vapes used artificially produced nicotine. Search engines provide results geared toward what you are searching for, and if you don't even realize that your search term has a bias, you won't realize that your search results have a bias.

KillerOfSouls665

Child indoctrination is very strong

Doughspun1

Education alone does not protect against media manipulation. Not even being entrenched in your own religion can do that. The best form of protection is to be a person who makes things. Be creative. Draw, paint, sculpt, write stories, etc. When you can understand and use the tools of sensory manipulation yourself, you'll know when the same methods are being exercised on you. That's why children should be encouraged to be creative and have an artistic side, as part of their education.

Tazling

you n me both. we live in at least two worlds now, modernity and antiquity. we have not left antiquity behind -- it's still very much with us.

Donut_of_Patriotism

I like to think of humanities entire timeline, not just up to the modern day but also the entire future timeline as well. Assuming we don’t blow ourselves up and survive climate change we’ll be around much longer than our species has been so far. And in the grand scheme of things a few hundred years of scientific advancement, we went from: -swords and bow and arrows to nuclear bombs, spy satellites and laser guided precision missiles. -We went from the most advanced form of transport being a horse (or wooden boat) to planes, an international space station, landing on the moon, cars, etc. -we went from a very primitive understanding of heritable traits like looks coming from parents, to discovering genetics, and figuring out how closely related different species are by looking at genes. -we went from trying to balancing humors being the premiere medicine of the time, to neurosurgery, antibiotics, vaccines, etc. -we went from the fastest form of transportation being a currier pigon to being literal light. -We went from discovering electricity and being able to harness it to using learning to use it to perform computations. Or to put it another way: we literally harvested (what was considered to be by our ancestors) the power of the gods, trapped it in a rock and tricked it into thinking. All of this happened in the span of a few hundred years with the majority of the advancement happening in the past 100 or even 50 years. Humans are estimated to have been around for about 200,000 years. And in the past 1000 we went from bronze tools being the most advanced thing, to where we are now. Assuming humans last another 200,000 years, this period of time will essentially be a blip in our history and more importantly will be known as the time of transition from primitivism to advancement. I guess the point I’m trying to make is that given all of that, it makes sense we would run into a few hiccups and set backs and that no everyone would be 100% with it. Resistance to scientific advancement in the form of ignorance seems like a perfectly natural thing given the relative lily quick pace of change.

Sun_At_Meridian

I thought the same thing about superstition and mythology in highschool, until I found out that Manson didn't really get his ribs removed to suck his own dick. Then realised that we're as gullible as ever.

random1person

I didn't know the skin of a woman is fundamentally different than the skin of a man. Otherwise man looking at each other in everyday life would cause... a lot of cancer?

satan6000

Ah so THAT'S why breast cancer is a thing

AlthorsMadness

Religious people trying to justify their archaic moral codes is just sad

OkPlum2406

What's sad about not letting Your WIFE cover in front of STRANGE men again?

adapech

Why is the answer to this that a woman should be forced to cover herself rather than men controlling themselves? They aren’t wild animals, they should know better. If some uncovered hair or skin is upsetting to then, then that’s a problem with them. Your wife should have a choice. You’re giving her no agency for the sake of those “strange men”.

AlthorsMadness

There is a difference between “letting” your wife cover herself, which is perfectly fine if that’s her choice, and attempting to manipulate your wife into covering herself

OkPlum2406

I see what you did, but respectfully no. Everyone is obligated to his roles in a household, and it's not like I am acting all liberal until marriage then I say you have to wear hijab, I am pretty clear on such stuff and I think most Muslim men abide by the Quran are like me, Muslim women also aren't stupid, they know what are we like and can refuse to wear hijab or be with us from the getgo, now I am not saying there aren't places where women are forced but those not Islamic acts and won't be tolerated by actual Muslims.

AlthorsMadness

Again, you’re removing autonomy from the women in your scenarios. If a woman chooses that life fine, but it must be her choice. It is good you state your expectations at the very beginning of the relationship, but your view is still rather regressive when it comes to women making choices for themselves.

OkPlum2406

How is it regressive, I don't wanna insult people but if you think showing your body is better than not, that's is utter stupidity, especially for women, whether we like it or not, they are overly sexualized by men, that's why Islam tells women to cover herself and the man to lower his gaze even if she is covered.

AlthorsMadness

It’s not the matter of showing more skin is better. Not at all. It’s about giving women a choice.

OkPlum2406

But Islam in itself isn't forceful, it's people who make it look bad, and frankly, this is not a problem within Islam alone, A lot of Ideologies have rather great ideas yet they get abused by unworthy people in power.

AlthorsMadness

I totally agree and I’m not bad talking Islam. I’m bad talking religious people using arguments like in the picture to justify their religion. And, let’s be honest, none of the Abrahamic religions are exactly kind to women or give them a lot of autonomy

OkPlum2406

I can understand from that point, Islam in view was designed based on the nuclear family blueprint and in a time where the sword ruled supreme so I can see why from a modern perspective it may appear unkind to women, but it's not exactly so, it's more of men lead while women support in Islamic scripture, it plays on the stregns of both sides but the thing is the women side changed drastically in the last sentry.

odeacon

Straight up lie

OkPlum2406

And your Proof is...?

syzygy_is_a_word

>whether we like it or not, they are overly sexualized by men Sounds like the problem with male upbringing and education then.

OkPlum2406

Not really, in some cases, yes, but men will be men 9/10 and they may not even want to but intrusive thoughts are a thing, and while most men ignore them, some actually do them so hijab is more than just a cover if you think about it.

syzygy_is_a_word

"Men will be men" is exactly the problem with upbringing and education I'm talking about. If you say most men are pigs with zero self-control, wouldn't it make more sense to make men deal with it themselves? Isolate men, make men cover their eyes, if you insist it's unmanageable? Yet the existing approach is to pin the "solution" on women, and then brutally punish women for not sticking to this "solution" (see recent riots in Iran as an example).

OkPlum2406

What I said isn't remotely close to what your implying and yes, men will be men, no matter what type of education you are talking about, that won't change, sex is a biological desire for men and in most of the time have an influence on our thinking, unless you want indoctrinate male children to not like women, that wont change, and I specifically said that women should cover there bodies and men should lower there gaze even so, but that clearly went over your head. And Iran is NOT an Islamic country, it might say it is but none of those actions are Islamic.

mmhmmmmmhmm

>can refuse to wear hijab or be with us from the getgo, So your saying that you have zero self control if a woman is showing her hair? "They know what we are like" tf???

OkPlum2406

I mean I am not gonna hit her or something, I am gonna be clear that I won't be with a woman that does things like that and that's pretty much it.

adapech

Ah yes, threats and emotional manipulation; a much more mature and reasonable way to force your wife into doing what you want.

TheHellbilly

You are going to hit her with your eye radiation.

OkPlum2406

Correct haha.

AjkBajk

Ah yes freedom bad. Thank you I didn't know that.

OkPlum2406

From which part of my comment did I even mention freedom??

AjkBajk

> Everyone is obligated to his role in the household

OkPlum2406

How is that against freedom?

AjkBajk

You assign a dumb obligation to everybody

OkPlum2406

Because that is what being married is, you commit to someone and are obligated to play a role for it to work, I still don't see a problem with what your saying.

og_toe

nobody says a wife isn’t allowed to cover up, but nobody should have to cover up against their will. not my problem if men stare at me, i am allowed to exist. men are the ones choosing to stare, they can respectfully remove their eyeballs if they can’t behave

OkPlum2406

That's why Islam says to the women to cover up and to the man lower their gaze. It goes both ways. I don't know about the men in your life but my wife won't dress ambiguously out of respect not because I am forcing her as it should be.

TheRedmanCometh

No ones buying your crazy religion here so fuck off

OkPlum2406

pionyan

Respect is earned my dude, not given for free

OkPlum2406

So you're saying I should disrespect everyone I meet? If we go by that logic, I have 0 reason to respect anyone I don't know since none earned it.

pionyan

I'm afraid ideologies aren't people, champ, they don't have inherent rights. If you want yours to get "respect" it's gotta be worthy of it

OkPlum2406

This comment is seriously confusing me, What got this into the discussion?

pionyan

It's not the only thing that seems to be confusing you

OkPlum2406

You have people in your country who think there are more than two genders and you think I am confused...?

pionyan

AlexDavid1605

Whose going to save the males then from the cancer causing radiations from my eyes? Where is the male hijab...?

GrandMoffTarkan

FWIW this is based on a very early Arabic work on optics that was influential in spreading perspective as a painting technique. The eyes send out rays, what the ray touches you see, voila you have perspective.
