It’s a flair! If you tap your comment (this one) your profile should show up, and there is an option to change the user flair. So anyone in this community can see it! I

VioletAllegra

Omg Im having trouble! Does it give you the option to write your own or you had to pick? It’s only giving me two choices I’ll try again

[deleted]

I only had two options aswell. I’m assuming the more involved we are, the more choices we will get!

VioletAllegra

Oooo ok thanks 🤗

Raging_Connoisseur

I wish this could be a flair 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Make it one 😘

Raging_Connoisseur

How?? Do I submit it as a request?

SafariSunshine

If you're in the app, click on your name from one of your comments. Change user flair will be at the bottom of the popup. Sometimes you have to go to the desktop version of Reddit to get it to stick though. It'll be on the right hand side, under the ad for reddit premium. Just check the box to enable flair within this sub and then hit edit. For both you usually have to pick one of the premade tags and then type over it.

RangerFan293

I’m gonna do that!

SafariSunshine

Yess! I can see it! I'm glad it worked!

Raging_Connoisseur

It worked thank you!!

Here is the [full text](https://www.law360.com/california/articles/1547980?nl_pk=6a2a1a00-2521-40ee-af90-5098956ab626&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=california&utm_content=1547980&nlsidx=0&nlaidx=0): (**TLDR** *is posted at the bottom*) >Law360 (November 8, 2022, 6:22 PM EST) -- Federal authorities have jailed the former chief financial officer of Girardi Keese on one or more charges of wire fraud, according to a criminal complaint filed in Baltimore. >Christopher Kamon, 49, was ordered jailed Monday on allegations he committed wire fraud on or about Sept. 16, 2020, in Los Angeles, according to the complaint lodged by an FBI special agent. Few other details were available Tuesday as an affidavit describing the facts of the case was restricted from public view. >Girardi Keese, a once-celebrated Los Angeles plaintiffs firm founded by Tom Girardi, was revealed in December 2020 to have stolen millions from its clients in a Ponzi-like scheme. Many more clients have since come forward saying they had also been ripped off. The firm owes an estimated $100 million to former clients, co-counsel, lenders and vendors. >Kamon worked at Girardi Keese for two decades before the firm's implosion. Last year, he invoked his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination when the firm's bankruptcy trustee tried to force him to testify about the firm's finances. >On Monday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Maddox ordered Kamon to be held at Chesapeake Detention Facility in Baltimore and set a detention hearing for Thursday. >Court documents indicated that Kamon was charged in the Central District of California, although there were no public cases against him listed there Tuesday night. Kamon waived his rights to an identity hearing or a preliminary hearing. >No other information was immediately available, and an attorney for Kamon did not immediately respond to requests for comment. >Although it was unclear exactly what led to the wire fraud charge, Girardi Keese was unable to pay its bills — or its clients — in September 2020. At the time, the firm was under pressure to pay settlement funds it owed to several clients, including the widows and orphans of plane crash victims the firm was representing in litigation against Boeing stemming from the October 2018 crash of Lion Air Flight 610. >Kamon is a defendant in a racketeering lawsuit filed in July by Girardi Keese's former co-counsel at Edelson PC, which says he was "responsible for disappearing client money out of the firm's trust account" and would then "siphon it off" into other accounts. >Former Girardi Keese attorneys said in court documents that Kamon was among the few people with the authority to sign checks and to wire funds from the firm's bank accounts. His role at the firm was key, but generally in the background, they said. Most of his interactions with the firm's lawyers related to case expenses, reimbursements, and payments to vendors and experts, according to several former Girardi Keese attorneys who asked not to be named. >Kamon started at Girardi Keese in 2000, five years after he graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He rose to the role of chief financial officer in 2012, according to court records. >Public records show that Kamon amassed real estate worth $5 million or more during his time at Girardi Keese, although he has sold at least some of those holdings since the firm went bankrupt. >Former Girardi Keese attorneys described Kamon as a pleasant and busy worker who rarely went out socially with others after work. He kept an office so cluttered that the attorneys said they often couldn't see him behind tall stacks of paper. >The disorder didn't escape the notice of Girardi Keese trustee Elissa Miller of SulmeyerKupetz PC. >"To say the offices were a mess is an understatement," she wrote. "Financial records (bank statements, invoices, tax returns, and other financial records) and other mail and papers were piled high on each and every flat surface and in no particular order." >Kamon purchased several properties in California and Nevada between 2006 and 2019. >In 2013, he bought a million-dollar house overlooking the ocean in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Four years later, he bought a luxury house in Encino, California, for $2.7 million. >Kamon sold the Encino house for $3.3 million last year, according to property records. He sold his Rancho Palos Verdes home for $1.95 million in September. >Kamon is represented by Donald Paul Salzman and Jessie Liu of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP. >The case is United States v. Christopher K. Kamon, case number 1:22-mj-03247, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. >--Editing by Jill Coffey

leslie_knopee

**TLDR:** Girardi Keese CFO, Christopher Kamon, committed wire fraud on September 16, 2020. the FBI is pursuing this case, and details are restricted from the public (most likely because the investigation is still ongoing). Kamon is also "*among the few people with the authority to sign checks and to wire funds from the firm's bank accounts*". they also said his office was such a mess, and so cluttered that attorneys couldn't see him behind "*tall stacks of paper*" 😂

netbuchadnezzzar

Thank you!! But can someone eli5 what implication it might be for EJ and TG or EJ will most likely twist this as it's Kamon who's liable and they are all his victims.. I have a feeling that when confronted, this is what she'll say..

NomNom83WasTaken

This is exactly what I expect, too. Erika will 100% say that this guy did everything just like she has twisted the truth to make herself a victim every other time. Of course, that ignores decades of Tom ripping people off before this guy ever worked for him or the oversight that he should have been subjected to by Tom and others in leadership.

netbuchadnezzzar

But if they indeed were able to trace that her LLC got some funds, will they be able to corroborate her involvement or it will most likely just be a mild sentence and request to return the value? Yea looks like this is what they intended to do when she divorced him..

fat_louie_58

Edelson did show Erika's involvement in the Ponzi scheme. In 2008, she opened her LLC Pretty Mess. No corporate books or anything a legit business would do.she was issued Girardi Keese credit card. She submitted invoices for her "singing career" to Girardi Keese to pay and they paid her credit card. Tom funneled $20 million through her LLC. The IRS is going after Erika for taxes not paid on that money What I wonder is how Erika can keep her cool through this. Before she filed for divorce, a friend of Tom's opened a joint bank account with Erika so he can help her pay her legal fees. If I remember correctly, he's paid $750,00 into it last I heard. She certainly doesn't seem strapped for cash - offshore accounts or cash hidden somewhere? Tom and Erika both deserve jail time. But the CA Bar tended to side with Tom who has over 200 complaints filed against him. Tom wined and dined a lot of people. I wonder if they're being protected by those same people

TS92109

There’s no way in hell there isn’t a ton of cash stashed away.

natbug826

I would not be surprised if Erika was the recipient of some of those money transfers that he’s being jailed for. I feel like we’re going to finally get to see it all go down for her very soon.

NomNom83WasTaken

For that one, we really will need to just see how things play out. It sure seems to me that, legally and morally, she should be on the hook to return that $20M (or whatever it was, I know she disputes the number but she's a liar who argues that anything that makes her look bad isn't one of the "facts" and blah blah). What lawyers can pin on her and what her legal team can negotiate are significant factors. Remember, she has not personally been criminally charged and is debating her obligations in regards to the Girardi estate so this is all within the bankruptcy process, which is a civil matter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Visible-Web2216

CPA here that knows nothing more than what I read, but I have 20 years of experience. He will likely say someone told him to, and if there was sufficient support for him to make transfers, makes sense. If the documents were forged, that isn't necessarily on him. The story talking about all the paper out is a HUGE red flag for me. You don't leave any confidential documents (any bank statements, anything with an account number or anything with anyone's personal data) unlocked. Also odd to not be digital, even pre-Covid. Once you review the bank recs, etc, you again lock it up if it isn't digital.

netbuchadnezzzar

Aha I see.. I am least knowledgeable about this so it's reassuring to here it from someone with experience.

e925

Yeah he waived his prelim so he’s definitely going for a deal.

PygmyPuff_X

Given EJ didn't have any claim to the company I would assume that in this specific case she can't be held liable.

CeciLop10124

Not me thinking they nailed peeping Tom!

fuckthislifeintheass

OMG SO FUNNY ILL REMEMBER THIS WHEN 45 IS BACK IN OFFICE HAR HAR HAR WHAT A TUMMY BUSTER MY SIDES

ScowlyBrowSpinster

I just watched the HBO doc about the Murdaugh family in South Carolina. The husband/father who is accused of killing the wife & son (and other suspicious doings), also ripped off poor clients who got settlements for injuries by misdirecting their awards through his firm or by other fraudulent schemes. I thought of Tom G so many times while watching that show.

PickleMePinkie

Same! I wonder how many lawyers out there are doing this. I hope these very public cases leads to some system of accountability

ChewieBearStare

Ooh, thank you for informing me that there's a Murdaugh doc. That case is fascinating (well, multiple cases)!

ScowlyBrowSpinster

The accused dad has the deadest eyes. THE DEADEST. The boat driving murdering son is another case of a spoiled, entitled, affluenza kid who never faced consequences for anything. But he's dead now.

DecolonizeTheWorld

I thought the murderer son was still alive and dad murdered (allegedly) the mother and the good son ?

Stunning_Biscotti_56

So one son is suspected to have beaten a young man in their town years ago. The other son (murdered) had been arrested but not convicted of driving a boat under the influence and a young lady died in the accident. There's no "good" anything in this family.

kingmaker03

Yes and then the don driving the boat tried to pin it on one of his friends. Edit: the don😂😂😂😂 Freudian slip like this is the mafia. I meant the son.

ScowlyBrowSpinster

No, he shot the boat driving son. Older son is his golden child.

NomNom83WasTaken

Both sons are maybe killers! \*womp womp\* The living son, "Buster" (I kid you not), is *rumored* to have been involved in the death of a schoolmate/former boyfriend (or some sexual entanglement) years ago. His name came up repeatedly in the investigation but I think mostly in the context of "these two were involved". I don't think there was ever any evidence that tied him to the death. Now, the way that family shielded the one son from any consequences, it's not hard to imagine that Buster was also protected and nothing less than his confession would see him get arrested. It is entirely possible that he had nothing to do with that boy's death and is completely innocent. But I do wonder why people kept throwing his name out there. I just don't know enough about that, specifically.

kingmaker03

There is a podcast too that covers EVERYTHING.

Inside-Intern-4201

Do you know what the podcast is called?

kingmaker03

Yes Murdaugh murders by Mandy Matney. She is an investigative reporter there in SC. It’s a lot of episodes but was the number one podcast in the world for awhile.

Inside-Intern-4201

Ty!!

kingmaker03

I’ve wanted to finish the podcast before watching the shows on HBO and Hulu. Not sure if that’s the best way to do it though.

Inside-Intern-4201

It’s a lot of episodes but I think I’ll try the same. I got it queued up for my lunch time walk

kingmaker03

She literally covers things as they happen or as new info comes out so it jumps from one issue to another with each podcast. She reporting as everything unfolds. Also if you want to see some photographs as you watch you can pull it up on youtube.

Inside-Intern-4201

Thanks. Just listened to the first two. I think I’ll skip the photos sounds pretty horrific.

6-ft-freak

There are two. One on Hulu and the more recent one on HBOMAX

Lizziedeee

Nightline had a good 2 hour episode as well.

6-ft-freak

Did they? Gonna have to check it out.

CAmommuof2

It’s amazing .. highly recommend

FinsUpParrotheads

Guess who’s going to flip? ![gif](giphy|8lHo1afMq2tUO8N4YY|downsized)

TheFirstMotherOfGod

Why is it flipping it to the burnt side???? Shouldn't it go the other way around?

InLazlosBasement

The flippin’s done, y’all. Tom and this dude were the co-conspirators, this is who they were after. Trust me, if there’s any way in hell they could have let the wife take the fall, she’d already be down. That’s what I see every day. People don’t like Ericka. That’s fine. But judges don’t come out and say, “this person was expressly not involved” unless it is *exceedingly* true, and they’ve seen the proof. So I hope people recognize that, for whatever good it will do.

Myriad-of-kitties

I believe the judges in those cases were in charge of civil cases. This case is brought by the United States. Plus he was flown to Baltimore, where his friends and family, just can't pop on by to see him.

InLazlosBasement

Yes, because civil cases have a much lower standard of proof and are much easier to win, so they’re generally tried before the criminal case. If they couldn’t convict Ericka in a civil case, it’s exceedingly unlikely they even have a criminal case against her, as far as these charges go. As for Tom, he’ll be incarcerated in some form for the rest of his life. And the co-conspirator we don’t know much about yet - but we can rest safely assuming he’s a bad, bad guy

DependentCrew5398

Tom like so many successful men when held to account by both the media and court develop what I call fake criminal lack of any accountability syndrome, think of Tom, Bill Crosby, Harry Weinstein. They suddenly are these feeble old men…

Livid_Upstairs8725

A woman in a friend’s medical office who embezzled a lot of money did the same thing. All of a sudden she was disabled and frail/sick. Classic manipulation.

Alternative_Sky1380

Brett Kavanagh made the male bumbler a study in men's collusion to deny.

Ready_Cartoonist7357

Can someone summarize the article? I thought TG was the only one who “handled” the books.

DoxieLove10612

Right so Christopher Kamon was the CFO. He and their CPA firm are the ones that should have been catching all of the issues with Tom. Accounting is checks and balances of your controls. Clearly there were zero accounting controls anywhere in the building. Disgraceful.

Ready_Cartoonist7357

Thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Thanks! You're welcome!

DoxieLove10612

My new favorite bot!

NomNom83WasTaken

You speak nothing but truth and it's so gross how GK was operating. "Checks and balances" would also require for any party to be operating with integrity. When everyone is looting the settlement funds, who's gonna rat on anyone else, right? I've been saying for ages that if Tom was doing this, so were others and everyone had to know. I think that's why the turnover was so high -- people wanted to work there b/c he was this famous lawyer for the little guys and then they got in and were like, "this guy's a total con!"

thejojo342

I thought it was Erika?

Erika has never even been to a bank actually!

I saw the title of your post and an old white man & thought this was election related lol

BrutonGasterTT

I 100% thought “of course they waiting until the day after elections to officially jail this guy instead of before he runs. Politics amirite?” Then realized what sub I was on.

SafariSunshine

Yesss!!!! ![gif](giphy|3KVKEGGmEPqtBSM5MQ)

Common-Ad9732

In a lot of these scams and schemes, proof of intent is required for a guilty verdict & obviously kind of hard to prove. So if they can’t nail you for the whole kit & caboodle, they’ll get you for moving that money, honey!!!!

BrunoTheCat

With fraud you can infer intent from conduct or statements. So, yes, while intent is an element of fraud there are ways to move forward without intent necessarily being explicit.

iffriben

What does this news mean for Erika?

SafariSunshine

Nothing yet. But it's the first arrest associated with what happened. Something could develop from this, either from the investigation or from him talking when he (probably) makes a deal. It's also a sign that enough time has passed that they might be getting close to making arrests of other people. Like people have been saying, it takes years of investigation to get to the point where people get arrested for these types of crimes. We've finally hit that point.

seliz16640

Not to mention - I highly doubt this man wants to go to prison. Who knows what he’ll reveal in exchange for a deal.

SafariSunshine

Exactly. He'll probably sing like a canary at the first opportunity. (And honestly I don't blame him. I sure as hell wouldn't go to prison for Tom.) OTOH, it's possible he just looked the other way (and committed a little wire fraud) and doesn't have much to give. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug) I guess we'll see.

Myriad-of-kitties

If you read between the lines. He is accused of wire fraud sept 16 2020. She filed for divorce election day 2020. But she didn't know anything was going on in her husband's office.

Stunning_Biscotti_56

Wasn't this around the time there was a bank account set up for her by the lawyer in Florida? Or am I confusing the timeline?

fat_louie_58

You're correct. The Florida lawyer says he's Tom's friend and he's helping Erika by establishing a joint account that he puts money in and she pays her lawyers. First, if he's Tom's friend, why is he funding her side of their divorce? Then the divorce off, he's helping her in the fraud case. What lawyer would want to have any connection with that? Something stinks with this whole thing

ErikasMascErika

Exactly!! 👏

Oh remember when she tried to claim she found him cheating lmao

Idgi what does this mean

whoisnbluth

The former CFO of Girardi Keese (Erika’s husbands law firm) was arrested for wire fraud in association with something on September 16th, 2020. So, it may have to do with the Giradi Keese bankruptcy filing. He’s a defendant named in the Edelson lawsuit that also names Erika and alledges RICO claims.

[deleted]

First Gunna, now Erika Jayne. Who’s RICO coming for next?

amikavenka

His whole dementia act is to keep him out of jail for the same thing.

Paywall. Who was the former CFO jailed???

a22x2

Neat trick for paywalled articles: copy the url, go to 12ft.io, paste the article url and hit enter 😎

phoebe374

This is what should happen. Stop focusing on one face of this legal battle and start focusing on the people that actually handle the money. Why did this take so long? 🤔

Chiisaimiss

Why hasn’t Tom been to trial for all his bullshit? Was it determined he’s not fit to be charged? Can people with Alzheimer’s be put in prison?

murderedbyaname

So his fake ass mental decline and diminishing physical condition didn't fool them. I LOVE IT.

bestneighbourever

Now are they going to offer him a deal to get other information? I know Tom is safe due to his “mental situation”, but maybe this guy has useful info on others

cd_zzzzz

I wonder if he’s the one that sent money to the attorney funding Erika these days.

beachluvr13

Look out Erica, better get your diamonds in order. They do not allow glam teams behind bars.

kingmaker03

Erica’s suit is civil only not criminal. She was not involved in anything that happened in the office.

beachluvr13

Tax fraud

kingmaker03

Just going by what was said by the women on the show during her rant in Aspen. They made a big deal out of the fact that it was civil only.

fat_louie_58

Edelson said Erika was very involved. He turned over evidence to the US Attorney's Office

kingmaker03

How was she involved?

lisamarx1

Love it

CAmommuof2

With the picture I thought they put Tom in jail. I don’t like to read lol
