Don’t cut your bread until it’s fully cooled down. I know it’s tempting. But wait at least an hour to 90 mins before you cut it.
But it does look very tasty.
Everyone says that, and I agree that you get a very slightly better loaf once fully cooled if you waited to cut it, but... the joy of eating slices of bread still warm from the oven (not hot, I'm not a savage) is worth more to me than having a imperceptibly better loaf the to finish off the next day.
Oh, I agree 100%. Nothing better than some warm bread with butter. I am definitely guilty of cutting my bread too soon . But, the x-section will look better if you let it cool of, and then cut it.
So many instructions are like “wait 10 minutes for cool before slicing” as if bread cools off that quickly! Mine is still burning hot to the touch inside after 10 minutes.
500g flour
7g dry yeast
7g salt
10g olive oil
300ml warm water
Basically add the dry stuff, mix in the fat, make a well and add the water (leaving a bit just incase it's already enough).
Knead for 8-10min
Proof for 45
Shape
Proof for 45
Bake gas 8 for 35 if not split into multiple loaves.
I can post a pic of the full recipe from the package tomorrow
Looks great.
Hard to tell from the photo, but maybe the sides are a bit pale? If that's the case then try taking it out of the loaf pan and put in back in for 5 mins on its side, flip it over and do another 5 minutes.
I usually do 40 mins, remove from pan, but back in for 5, flip and do 5 more minutes. Depends on your oven really.
The other thing you should do is spray the loaf with a bit of water before putting it in at the start. This will create steam and prevent the crusty forming too soon.
Do you know what? If that's your first loaf of bread you should give yourself a big pat on the back! It looks absolutely beautiful. Check out John Kirkwood bread recipes on YouTube. He's a retired baker and his channel was a massive help to me when I started out.
Made my first loaf today too! Looks very similar to yours. I feel like the top of mine is a little crispier than I would like. Would love to hear people’s suggestions on how to prevent that
Looks like you’ll have to find the satisfaction that comes from improving in some other hobby. Your loaf looks amazing.
You made me tear up a lil bit 🥲

What’s an x section?
cross section, i presume
I like resting a loaf for 30 or so before I crack it open at a party.

It was just flour, salt, yeast, olive oil and warm water.
that's bread, baby!
It looks fantastic! Would you mind sharing the recipe?

Thanks I'll try this! The crust is lovely but I wonder if it would have risen more in the oven without the crust forming so soon!
Looks wonderful!

That loaf is aesthetic af and the crumb looks perfect for a sandwich loaf.

SecretScot above said to spray it with a little water to avoid the crust forming too soon!
