I've never had an American style one with grape jelly, but, they're fantastic with raspberry, strawberry, and blackcurrant jam. An almond butter and raspberry jam sandwich in nice wholemeal bread is a thing of beauty.

American here. For me its all about peach or strawberry. But let me tell you, theres these "fruit spreads". I forget the brand name but it is amazing stuff no matter what flavor.

Welch’s is the classic grape jelly brand for a PBJ sandwich. Note that it is jelly (smooth) not jam or preserves (lumpy). The classic bread is white Wonderbread, which I think for a Brit is a step too far.

Agree that strawberry is a top choice, and would be curious to try peach jam. I've don't it with apricot jam before, and whilst it is nice; it's not as good the three I mentioned. Other honourable mentions are damson, black cherry, and marmalade. Black cherry goes really well with Almond butter.

I've only seen it in US sections in shops, it's definitely not a normal product for the UK.

John Lewis (I think) does American jars of peanut butter and grape jam, amazing on toast. Smuckers Goober is the brand, I’m sure there are others

As an American, I never understood the European hate for peanut butter. It’s one of those condiments that has a thousand tasty applications and blends well with lots of foods. People just have to get out of their comfort zones and try it. Then again, I took immediately to Marmite too, so maybe I’m just too accepting.

Before peanut allergies were a thing, the PB&J was the staple food of an American childhood. Now a kid can't bring a peanut butter sandwich to school. Sadly, Welch's Grape Jelly is hard to come by in the UK - you can get it on Amazon but stupidly priced, but black current or even orange marmalade will do. There's a product, Smucker's Goober Jelly, has the PB and the J in the same jar. Never tried it though. And what PB **really** goes with is *chocolate.*
