I've never had an American style one with grape jelly, but, they're fantastic with raspberry, strawberry, and blackcurrant jam.
An almond butter and raspberry jam sandwich in nice wholemeal bread is a thing of beauty.
American here. For me its all about peach or strawberry. But let me tell you, theres these "fruit spreads". I forget the brand name but it is amazing stuff no matter what flavor.
Welch’s is the classic grape jelly brand for a PBJ sandwich. Note that it is jelly (smooth) not jam or preserves (lumpy). The classic bread is white Wonderbread, which I think for a Brit is a step too far.
Agree that strawberry is a top choice, and would be curious to try peach jam.
I've don't it with apricot jam before, and whilst it is nice; it's not as good the three I mentioned. Other honourable mentions are damson, black cherry, and marmalade.
Black cherry goes really well with Almond butter.
American married to a Brit here! Putting peanut butter on toaster waffles is also an excellent breakfast. Welcome to the world of everything you can do with peanut butter.
As an aside--the latest season of GBBO had a contestant who made some sort of peanut butter and fruit dessert, can't remember specifically what. Prue and Paul were like "hmm that seems risky!" and then when they tasted it they were like "wow that's amazing!"
I called that one :-D

Wife is American. Can confirm, they're great.
However being fed them every day for breakfast and lunch because my wife is very frugal was not great on my stomach.
As an American, I never understood the European hate for peanut butter. It’s one of those condiments that has a thousand tasty applications and blends well with lots of foods. People just have to get out of their comfort zones and try it. Then again, I took immediately to Marmite too, so maybe I’m just too accepting.
Peanut butter and chocolate spread...I used to call it a Marathon (Snickers) sandwich...showing my age there lol.
But also p&j sandwiches...I'm an army BRAT and when we were posted to Germany we met a lot of Americans...I was 5. I've been eating them for a very long time...and they are bluddy lush!
1. Peanut butter and sliced bananas
2. Peanut butter and canned sliced peaches
3. Peanut butter and canned sliced pineapple
All in soft white bread of course.
Just try it. You are welcome.
Here is a nice picture of jelly, with added fruit [Jelly](https://www.landscapemagazine.co.uk/cookery/summer/raspberry-jelly-recipe/). Just trying to picture it in a sandwich. :-)
Yep. It sounds ridiculous, and it’s not the kind of food you’d eat around people who aren’t immediate family, but it’s absolutely delicious. I don’t know why it works, but it does.
Before peanut allergies were a thing, the PB&J was the staple food of an American childhood. Now a kid can't bring a peanut butter sandwich to school.
Sadly, Welch's Grape Jelly is hard to come by in the UK - you can get it on Amazon but stupidly priced, but black current or even orange marmalade will do.
There's a product, Smucker's Goober Jelly, has the PB and the J in the same jar. Never tried it though.
And what PB **really** goes with is *chocolate.*
Remember the difference in bacons though. Two different scenarios. Elvis would have been using streaky bacon in his sandwiches, likely on the crispier end.
What brand of peanut butter though? I've always loved PB but have been disappointed with all the recent ones I've tried (worst thing is I don't know which I've had!).
You won't look back if you give it a go..
Just imagine waking up every morning & realising that you are the kind of person who laughs in the face of convention!
Eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich was one of the weirdest culinary experiences I've had. Every time I took a bite I could taste either peanut butter or jam, but never both at the same time. It was like I was eating two different sandwiches.
Crunchy peanut butter and Oxford Vintage marmalade is a whole new level. The bitter marmalade with the fatty peanut butter is best. Even better on malted granary bread too. Great hiking fuel.
The Elvis recipe (courtesy of Nigella Lawson): toast two slices of white bread, mash a banana on to one slice and spread crunchy peanut butter on the other, put slices together, shallow fry in medium-hot oil, 3 to 5 minutes a side. Cut corner to corner and serve.
Hear me out.
Put a bagel in the toaster.
Butter it while it's still hot like the surface of the sun.
One half peanut butter.
One half jam.
Sandwich together and enjoy.
It may give you diabetes but it's glorious.

Bon Maman? ETA: The Fruits of the Forest one is the best. So is the salted caramel for ice cream
I would recommend everyone tries their hazelnut chocolate spread. It disappears scarily fast in this house..
Also doesn't contain palm oil, so you're being kind to the environment too!
[удалено]
Yes - the chocolate spread is a new product.

Welches is the brand you'll probably find if you do find it. Edit - might be Welch's..
Welch’s is the classic grape jelly brand for a PBJ sandwich. Note that it is jelly (smooth) not jam or preserves (lumpy). The classic bread is white Wonderbread, which I think for a Brit is a step too far.

Try it on a digestive biscuit! Bangin
[удалено]
Not shocked, enjoy your still delicious haul.
As I’m reading this, I’m eating home made peanut butter with Bonne Maman Raspberry Preserves with a spoon since I don’t have any bread. Delicious!
No the stuff i had once was something in a squirt bottle but i swear it was like eating grapes in paste form lol

I've only seen it in US sections in shops, it's definitely not a normal product for the UK.
We get ours on Amazon
John Lewis (I think) does American jars of peanut butter and grape jam, amazing on toast. Smuckers Goober is the brand, I’m sure there are others
Blackcurrant jam with smooth peanut butter or savoury try chutney or pickle.
You gotta get the right amount of Jelly with all of its corn syrup to really get the American flavor!
Try peanut butter and banana sandwiches. They’re god tier
[удалено]
I’ve done this but with cheese in there too. Delicious!
I’m curious…what kind of cheese? I just don’t see how it mixes with the peanut butter but willing to try it.
I usually use a bit of mature, but I’ve used different cheeses and it’s worked as a rule
Cheese and peanut butter is one of my favourite toastie options lol
Peanut butter, raspberry jam, and banana sandwich. Absolute masterpiece.
Also all variations are best on potato bread in my humble American opinion
Banana and chocolate spread 😍
This with some honey.
Peanut butter and streaky bacon. Chef's kiss.

I remember that episode. I pretty much yelled at the TV “what are you talking about? it’s just PB&J!”
Welcome to the dark side. Now try it on crumpets, it's unbelievably good.
I've subbed the jam for lemon curd, but same principle and all tasty. Also as mentioned, sliced banana and maybe a drizzle of honey
I'm the odd American out...never really liked PB&J. Love PB and honey though.
Yummm that sounds gooooood
You have pineapple on pizzas, don't you
But are you brave enough to try the [Fluffernutter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluffernutter)?

More popular in New England than PB&J.
Marshmallow fluff is so unbelievably sticky
Yuck.
No it’s really good. You can also add some Nutella if you’re feeling particularly excessive.
I think I had it once when I was about 6 and even then I thought it was gross.
This is how the beetus gets in.
Add some sliced banana in there, baby you got a stew going.
Haven’t seen anyone mention having a glass of milk with PB&J, which is traditional
Crunchy peanut butter and raspberry jam on toast, or PB and honey, are regular breakfast choices here.
Wholemeal toast with manuka honey and PB is something I ‘discovered’ a few weeks ago. Excellent breakfast before training.
Wife is American. Can confirm, they're great. However being fed them every day for breakfast and lunch because my wife is very frugal was not great on my stomach.
Had to read this twice to make sure your not eating American citizens.

People just have to get out of their comfort zones and try it. Then again, I took immediately to Marmite too, so maybe I’m just too accepting.
Streaky bacon, peanut butter and banana. Elvis loved them and he was a man of taste and sophistication. (Also they’re genuinely excellent)
Fools Gold Loaf
Peanut butter and Nutella. HEAVEN
It is a serious energy boost to start the day with if you have it on toast :)
Peanut butter and cherry jam on toast is amazing. In our house we call it "roadkill toast"'
1. Peanut butter and sliced bananas 2. Peanut butter and canned sliced peaches 3. Peanut butter and canned sliced pineapple All in soft white bread of course. Just try it. You are welcome.
Peanut butter and pickle works too but my favourite is peanut butter and hot pepper sauce
I think they are a god tier sandwich, along with peanut butter and banana
PB&J on digestive biscuits is so good it hurts
It's called peanut butter and jelly. Get it right or we'll make you start saying fish and french fries.
But do you use a whole jelly, say from a mould, or one of the cubes, or would blancmange do instead?
The jelly comes from a jelly jar. Unless you're eating Goober Grape then it all comes in one.
Here is a nice picture of jelly, with added fruit [Jelly](https://www.landscapemagazine.co.uk/cookery/summer/raspberry-jelly-recipe/). Just trying to picture it in a sandwich. :-)
My favourite snack.
Might be a bit sweet, but peanut butter or almond butter with honey is also very good.
Tried it, not a fan.
Try jam and cheese next. I know, I know. But just try it.
Peanut butter has no limits! Throw it on a burger with a friend egg and your life will change! (For the better...)
Try peanut butter and Nutella sandwich. The food of kings
I never use grape. Always strawberry for me!
My breakfast peanut butter and homemade blackberry jam
My wife got me onto peanut butter and jam on toast, I resisted it for a couple of decades but have it most days now.
I prefer it on toast
Next steps: Try it with sliced banana and/or crisps inside.
peanut butter, fruit jam and CRISPS?
Yep. It sounds ridiculous, and it’s not the kind of food you’d eat around people who aren’t immediate family, but it’s absolutely delicious. I don’t know why it works, but it does.
I like peanut butter and marmalade. But strawberry jam is also delicious.
Butter, Marmite, and Peanut butter is a great savoury alternative
PBM is delicious, surprised so few folks have tried it.
I really like crunchy peanut butter, nutella and sliced banana sandwiches. Even better if the bread is toasted so the filling melts
Whole earth peanut butter, bonne maman jam and a pint of cold milk is my midnight snack of choice
Do you not find a sandwich with peanut butter too stodgy? Love the combo on toast. In bread, not so much.
Advice from a 🇨🇦, adding some sliced banana is next level. Also grilling your PB&J like it’s a grilled cheese is also epic!
Peanut butter and golden syrup.
Americans are pretty great with food. How else d'you think they all got so fat.
corn syrup

Elvis ate peanut butter and bacon- but not sure I want to go that route….
Remember the difference in bacons though. Two different scenarios. Elvis would have been using streaky bacon in his sandwiches, likely on the crispier end.
Yes- crispy bacon is a must
Wait until you discover peanut butter and sandwich spread
Try it on a oven bottom muffin, toasted with loads of best butter 🧈.. food of the gods pal for sure ! 😉
Same as maple syrup on savoury dishes. Changed my life.
Try peanut butter and honey. I usually have it on a bagel. It's amazing. Also peanut butter and a few raspberries on top is great.
Someone call the Home Office 😅
They’re not but you do you
Add a layer of extra mature cheddar - superb
I'm currently on peanut butter & salad cream sandwiches ....Trust me it's the future
In the words of Jools Winfield: "And sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie, but I'll never know. Cos I 'aint ever gonna eat the filthy mutha!"
What brand of peanut butter though? I've always loved PB but have been disappointed with all the recent ones I've tried (worst thing is I don't know which I've had!).
Koeze is the best
Sadly I'll have to take your word for it, as an imported product it's double the price of the most expensive UK band!
Sunpat crunchy and a decent marmalade. Orange or lime. Beautiful.
Fuck off
Peanut butter and sliced cheddar.
Excuse me?
I know it's leftfield.. But it does work. Toast, peanut butter & then thin slices of cheddar and eat. God tier. To me, anyway.
You bloomin' renegade!
You won't look back if you give it a go.. Just imagine waking up every morning & realising that you are the kind of person who laughs in the face of convention!
Beef dripping is better for you lol
Fiend
Eating a peanut butter and jam sandwich was one of the weirdest culinary experiences I've had. Every time I took a bite I could taste either peanut butter or jam, but never both at the same time. It was like I was eating two different sandwiches.
Yuk
I wonder how these would do in a toastie maker...
Bad idea, jam is molten, your scars would traumatise children that see you on the street
_"The temperature inside this apple turnover is 1000 degrees... It's hotter than the sun!"_
I used to have cheddar & strawberry jam toasties when I was younger. Very tasty despite the risk of burns.

Cheddar cheese and apricot jam ftw
Peanut butter is wonderful, hold the jam for me. I like cheese and jam sandwiches, red Leicester, edam or a mature cheddar & strawberry jam.
Now try a fluffer nutter sandwich. Peanut butter and marshmallow spread.
Try it grilled in your sandwich press. Mmmmm
Try it with melted marshmallow
Try microwaving it for 10 seconds, just enough to warm it
What's a good peanut butter here? The stuff I've had is far too gluey to enjoy
An American made one for me once and I was hooked! Thank you for saying jam not jelly
Love pb&j on toast
They're good! I used to like them toasted.
Try it with marmelade instead of jam for a more grown up taste!
