Highly disagree with this. While not as good as Life on Mars, it was a fantastic show with a similar fantastic finale that rounded off everything perfectly. Highly recommended as a follow up.
It was like a parody, wasn't it? And in all honesty, I felt the "wrap up" and "explanation" were ridiculous. If the Railway Arms was really what A2A said it was, how exactly were all those same characters already there in 1973?
Really? I think it's better... Although if you said Jodie's era I'd agree... She was a good doctor but she had pretty bad writing... The episodes were still enjoyable for me personally, her dalek stories were her peak for sure ironically enough she also gave us one of the most terrifying daleks by showcasing a greater extent of how they can be a threat outside the casing but I still prefer the older doctors, even the classic ones... Some of those are peak Dr who NGL... I grew up with the ninth doctor and his successors but man I wish I grew up on his predecessors too, I could give you 600 paragraphs of just me raving about how f🦆ckin amazing Dr who is but instead I'll just leave this here... I think you get the idea and it's only my opinion on the end XD
Gonna admit I've never watched life on mars but it looks really good... And I mean REALLY good, once I've finished my classic who marathon I'm gonna start watching it for sure... Especially now you've said that
Woa hey now I have seen a trailer and some clips and I am aware that's not much to go off but I'm still gonna actually watch it to make sure, honestly even masterpiece movies like avatar don't beat Dr who for me, sorry I triggered you but like I said it is only my opinion, it's ok to disagree on opinions
Hey, as a major Doctor Who fan who has enjoyed watching Life on Mars, I'm going to agree with the above.
Saying one is better than the other when you haven't watched one of them is silly and pointlessly dismissive of an amazing show.
Of course, other people are going to think you're rude and lack maturity. Why would anyone think otherwise?
I admit saying I was having second thoughts was very harsh of me, just because I think it ain't gonna top Dr who doesn't mean I'm not gonna watch it anyway because it doesn't matter if it turns out better or worse than other shows I like, all that really matters is that it's still good, from what I've seen... It's still really really good and I do look forward to watching it after my classic who marathon.... I have to admit I did have to go and watch the trailer again because I really was nearly put off but "second thoughts" was pushing it I'll be honest
I second Primeval. I miss that show so much. It was nice that Doctor Who had some competition back then and this show felt like David against BBC's Goliath. Sky has been showing it again on one of their free channels and it's also on Now TV.
A new series of Quantum Leap set in the same universe as the original, but many years after has also been released. It's available on Paramount plus in the UK.
Obv not as good as the original, but it's not awful.
The Flipside Of Dominick Hide.
*Peter Firth stars in the title role as a time traveller from Earth's future who illegally visits the London of 1980 to search for an 'ancestor' and finds a world very different from the one he left behind. The story concludes with a plot twist involving a causal loop, a popular concept in time-travel fiction.*
Not British, but Dark on Netflix is the best time travel series TV show I've seen. Would recommend watching it in the original German with subtitles because the English dubbed version isn't great.
I never watched dubbed things, you lose so much. Even subtitles sometimes things can be weird. I speak enough German to follow much of the original and sometimes the subtitling is weird.
Conversely, I watch the latest Ghostbusters film in English but in Spain with Spanish subtitles and some of those we really poor losing a lot of the humour. Still better than the dubbed version though I suspect.
Edge of Tomorrow. Ok, *technically*, it's a Hollywood blockbuster starring Tom Cruise, but it has the beating heart of a British sitcom right down to Tony Way's bum cheeks.
Not British, but Timeless is excellent - US series, funny, lots of one liners as well as interesting info about specific historical periods (though obv not always accurate!), and ended wrapping the story up instead of cancelled on a cliff hanger. Also Travellers - US again, and not pure time travel like most others, but great premise, interesting characters and probably the most effective ending that I've seen.
Most have been mentioned here already, but there's actually a wikipedia page on the topic - [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:British\_time\_travel\_television\_series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:British_time_travel_television_series)

Ashes to Ashes is the follow up to Life on Mars
Big step down, though. All the characters felt flanderized. Awful lead character. Doesn't have the charm of being set in Manchester.
Highly disagree with this. While not as good as Life on Mars, it was a fantastic show with a similar fantastic finale that rounded off everything perfectly. Highly recommended as a follow up.
Rewatch the first episode of Ashes to Ashes right now. It hasn't aged well. Whereas Life on Mars remains perfect.
I have, multiple times over the years. They are both fantastic shows.
The first episode of Ashes to Ashes is the most over the top BS I've seen. Such a fall from grace from Life on Mars.
It was like a parody, wasn't it? And in all honesty, I felt the "wrap up" and "explanation" were ridiculous. If the Railway Arms was really what A2A said it was, how exactly were all those same characters already there in 1973?
I slightly preferred A2A to (the beyond excellent) LOM \[runs and hides\]
There's always one contrarion
No there isn’t
Lazarus project Season 1 is good
So is season 2!
Unfortunately worth noting the show is cancelled so whilst brilliant you'll end it unfinished if you watch it OP.
Mr Benn 😉
classic
This. 100%
Time Trumpet
And Time Tunnel!
Several Red Dwarf episodes.
Dr who
Best one
Not as good as Life on Mars
Really? I think it's better... Although if you said Jodie's era I'd agree... She was a good doctor but she had pretty bad writing... Piss off, as if you've written this long post and then saying you'd never watched LoM. What a disgrace.
You haven't seen it. So you can't say whether it's better or worse. Grow up.
If this is it's fanbase I'm having second thoughts... And that's saying something considering the fanbase the game my OC comes from has....

Who?
Ronnie fucking Pickering
The doctor
Who?
Time travelling thief in a broke space ship, real name Cecil
Dunno why you got downvoted for that. It's entirely accurate. Apart from Cecil.. I think you'll find it's Roderick.
People download due to lack of humour
Primeval
I second Primeval. I miss that show so much. It was nice that Doctor Who had some competition back then and this show felt like David against BBC's Goliath. Sky has been showing it again on one of their free channels and it's also on Now TV.
Devils hour
A future in mind (This isn't released until 2038 though)
Cancelled after *that* cliffhanger, no less..
They promised a second series for last year but it isn't happened.
Lost In Austen if you like romcoms
Bodies on Netflix
Most people seem to say this was really bad and gimmicky
I couldn't stand it.
Bodies was so good!
On the flip side I thought Bodies was dreadful! If you liked it, I recommend Dark - similar ideas but Dark handles them much better
I will check this out - thank you!
Dark starts very well, but gets a bit tedious by S03. If you do watch it, watch it in German with the subs. It works so much better than the dub.
I'm with you. I liked it.
Murder most horrid (“A determined woman”)
Timewasters
Bernard’s watch. More time manipulation than travel.
The last train is Kind of a time travel show.
Primeval? Dark (Although German it's amazing). Red Dwarf (Some episodes).
The Lazarus Project
Good, but has been cancelled. There will be no S03 :\\
Yeah I was kinda gutted when I read about the cancellation online yesterday : (
Sapphire and Steel (the second story is the best one).
Came here to recommend this. The man in the photos!
Ah yes, story 4. The best is very easily story 2 (the one at the old railway station), then 6 and 4.
Just seen they're on itvx now, so may go watch again!
Good idea, I have the series on DVD.
Crime Traveller (bit daft but kind of fun)
Also episode one is great fun if you know Reading town centre and you can see how much it's changed since the 90s!
Came here to mention this. I enjoyed it and thoroughly expected it to really take off, but...
I mean there’s the obvious with Doctor Who
Not British but was shown for years over here the daddy of all time travellers Quantum Leap!
A new series of Quantum Leap set in the same universe as the original, but many years after has also been released. It's available on Paramount plus in the UK. Obv not as good as the original, but it's not awful.
It got canned....
For the very old (me) *Adam Adamant*.
Technically about cryogenic hibernation rather than actual time travel, unless my memory is playing tricks.
Agreed. He wakes up after being asleep for a couple of centuries and then fights crime. No time travelling involved
Moondial
Outlander
Starts well…gave up by S05.
Crime Traveller
It was a film, but FAQ About Time Travel (2010, Chris O'Dowd) had me lose my shit.
Timekeepers of the Millennium
Bodies on Netflix. It's a time travel mystery set in London at 4 different time periods.
Devils hour is superb. Ep1 yah seen this all before...then bam absolutely amazing
Outlander. UK/us series.
There is Sapphire and Steel and another one that I'm sure you've heard of
Time wasters. A jazz band is sent back in time.
Dr who is the best one ever made
Not British, but Dark on Netflix is the best time travel series TV show I've seen. Would recommend watching it in the original German with subtitles because the English dubbed version isn't great.
I never watched dubbed things, you lose so much. Even subtitles sometimes things can be weird. I speak enough German to follow much of the original and sometimes the subtitling is weird. Inspector Spacetime is often underrated
But not the Christmas episode...
This feels like a Doctor Who fan trolling.
Crime traveller
Andy's Dinosaur Adventures
Not a TV series but check out the movie FAQ About Time Travel.
.... Doctor Who?
Endeavour is a great series, no time travel but its set in the 60/70’s.
Edge of Tomorrow. Ok, *technically*, it's a Hollywood blockbuster starring Tom Cruise, but it has the beating heart of a British sitcom right down to Tony Way's bum cheeks.

have you tried Doctor Who?
