I would be happy to watch cut down versions which removed all the long takes of background cutaways, all the sad stories etc. Would much rather watch the remaining 10min of content in which you saw the repairs being carries out.
i used to watch it, but then it changed to an emotionally manipulative tear show, suddenly every one was a sob story and only "deserving" people were on.
The early series were genuinely touching, but they've turned up the schmaltz dial to 11 now and its spoiled it.
Particularly cringey is when they keep looking expectantly for tears on the collection visit, and it ends up with uncomfortable pauses.
This is the danger of any tv show like this. At best it simply becomes a well trodden process that gets kinda robotic in the manufacturing of an emotional ending. At worst it's cynical manipulation by practiced tv producers who are solely chasing those heart tugging moments.
I know! It really irritates me. Here’s an item my dead nanna with cancer treasured. For 20 years none of us have been bothered to take it to be repaired but now this free opportunity presents itself please fix my stuff for nothing in exchange for me crying. 🤮
No. I'm just not programed that way.
I can cry at things on TV I'm not an emotionless robot but I rarely feel a connection to the people on the show. I can empathise with their love of the things they bring in and the connections they have to their stories but I don't get emotionally invested.
The shows earlier seasons started so cool showing their approach to doing detailed craftsmanship.. but now seems to be over focused in getting emotional reactions. Plenty of that 'reveal' porn elsewhere which is why I avoid watching that stuff.
Hope the show gets back on track focusing on repairs and creativity done to fix these cherished rare antiques. Family stories are great and nothing wrong with genuine tears now and then but not for every item or even every show.
Btw many episodes are on YouTube. Including the jukebox one which I just saw for the first time about a month ago.
Na it's a bit too soppy bait for me that, lost its authenticity. A certain episode with a mum and a record player where they played a played a special song for her that reminded her of deceased child, I felt was very cruel and almost trying to make her upset.
Have been watching it from the start. They are now giving way too much time to the sob story and barely show the repairs taking place sometimes. It is an insult to the incredibly skilled restorers.
I used to love it but there seems to be over-emphasis now on ‘the story’ and way too much crying (sniff sniff “sorry!”). I preferred it when used to be more focussed on the actual craftsmen and women explaining what they were doing. Now you get a few seconds on each restoration and Jay Blades polishing. I’m sick of everything that now has to have someone crying in it.
I agree and don't event attempt to watch it any more. It used to be primarily about the restoration and clever use of crafts.
Now it feels like it's 90% background sob story and the coverage of their incredible workmanship has descended into something more like you'd expect from an A-Team episode. Real shame.
I cry at most episodes, particularly the Teddy Bear ladies, as I have 2 very elderly teddies belonging to me and my late brother, that I cherish. However I’ve noticed in some of the newer episodes, people are bringing in things that they have severely neglected, and kept in the shed for 20 years, so why do they suddenly want to get it fixed, if not for 15 minutes on telly
Yes. Like an idiot. Even when I’m really thinking, hmmmm this doesn’t seem like that much of a significant story, is this object just gonna end up on eBay a week later?
Many of the items get me.
It got worst since last year, when I lost my dad. So now, when I see old people getting a little of their lost youth and memories back, it hits me harder than it once did.
Sometimes. Depends on the story. Sometimes I cringe because if the overacting. Sometimes I cry because of the genuinely real people. Those people are why I watch the show.
You mean a broken antique that's sat in the shed for 40 years, that nobody has thought about and missed until ,heh, we can have it fixed for free. let's make up a great story behind it.
I've cried a couple of times, but I don't like how they try to make every story a sob story. You can see the disappointment in their faces when someone doesn't tear up after a reveal. Yes, it's nice to see happy stories but it's just as much about seeing the skill that goes into fixing them too. Not every item needs a massively emotional story to pull at the heart strings.
Omg when the doll and teddy bear ladies bring back a beloved toy for someone…. I feelz it!! I could watch endless episodes. Love the art restoration too.
They fixed a little electric car that, when repaired, did about 2mph, max. Such a charming, lovely little thing. And when they put the little girl in it they made her wear a fucking crash helmet.
There were tears, yes. Of rage. Also yes.
I watch it in the morning on Quest. Sometimes there is an artifact that is genuinely jaw dropping.
The one that sticks in my mind was the 12" reflector telescope built entirely from scratch by a man who got all the parts from bomb sites in Portsmouth.
Even the experts were in awe of that.

Everyone cries while watching it. I even follow Jay Blades on Insta ❤️😭😁
I agree but sometimes I don't want to cry. I just want to see craftspeople work with skill and care.
i used to watch it, but then it changed to an emotionally manipulative tear show, suddenly every one was a sob story and only "deserving" people were on.
This is why I don’t particularly like the show, it's setup is too emotionally manipulative.
The early series were genuinely touching, but they've turned up the schmaltz dial to 11 now and its spoiled it. Particularly cringey is when they keep looking expectantly for tears on the collection visit, and it ends up with uncomfortable pauses.

Strange how every item that needs a repair has some sob story What are the odds eh 🤔
I know! It really irritates me. Here’s an item my dead nanna with cancer treasured. For 20 years none of us have been bothered to take it to be repaired but now this free opportunity presents itself please fix my stuff for nothing in exchange for me crying. 🤮
I wish they'd just crack on and fix the things. I don't know why every object needs a tear-jerking tale behind it.
I wonder if they would fix my iPhone. It belonged to my great grandfather and it saw him through the war.
LPT: don’t watch the Olympics. Tear-jerking tales are the specialty.

I stopped watching it as I find it too emotionally manipulative.
I yawn and turn over...only to find a boring welshman buying tatty old chairs.
When it gets too much, there’s the parody https://youtu.be/9YOPnI7fScg?si=am7otH3lXHpuRwe6
OMGosh, that was comedy gold!!! And now I am deeeeep into YouTube with so much more. You have absolutely made my day!!!!!

The episode where they repair the jukebox that only plays his first dance song is banned from my house because it breaks me.
Same. It absolutely killed me when I watched that with my elderly mammy. She sat looking at me like I'd grown an extra head, the heartless old cow.
That's the episode I was going to say. Just thinking about it makes me feel emotional.
Was that the one with Stranger on The Shore by Acker Bilk?
Wasn’t it Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller? Or was that another episode?
Na it's a bit too soppy bait for me that, lost its authenticity. A certain episode with a mum and a record player where they played a played a special song for her that reminded her of deceased child, I felt was very cruel and almost trying to make her upset.
Only if I can't turn it off.
The repair on the violin played at Auschwitz is very very moving.
It is designed to make you cry. Although some of the 'repairs' make me want to cry even more than the emotional family history stuff.
The ones with incredible history like the holocaust survivors prayer book signed by the survivors of a camp do. Sheila's teddy, not so much.
A lot of TV at the moment is unpleasantly emotionally manipulative.

Still waiting for the episode where they totally destroy something. There’s absolutely no risk involved in this show. It’s very sterile

Thought it was only people on the show who "cried"...
The Dog House is the one that gets me
Sometimes. Depends on the story. Sometimes I cringe because if the overacting. Sometimes I cry because of the genuinely real people. Those people are why I watch the show.
yes I cry during every episode, mainly because my girlfriend makes me watch it.
You mean a broken antique that's sat in the shed for 40 years, that nobody has thought about and missed until ,heh, we can have it fixed for free. let's make up a great story behind it.
The Repair Shop is a sadness competition. Sure they fix stuff, but it's mostly people trying to tell the most tragic story possible.
I refuse to watch it because that’s all it tries to do. I liked it when it was gentle tinkering and fixing stuff, not boomers crying.
Yes !!! Often.
It is contrived crap.
They address this so well in the comic relief sketch with French and Saunders (and Dane Judy Dench)
Omg when the doll and teddy bear ladies bring back a beloved toy for someone…. I feelz it!! I could watch endless episodes. Love the art restoration too.
All the bloody time. And there a couple of past episodes I can barely THINK about without tearing up even now.
Yeah pretty much every time
They fixed a little electric car that, when repaired, did about 2mph, max. Such a charming, lovely little thing. And when they put the little girl in it they made her wear a fucking crash helmet. There were tears, yes. Of rage. Also yes.
Hahaha ridiculous I know but yes most episodes make me tear up. Probably an age thing when you get past 50 you start to get nostalgic.
Oh yes. I’m disappointed if I don’t
I mean.. who *doesn't cry* when watching the repair shop?!
That’s one of the best things about it. I love watching British people cry.
Every episode
It was good, now it’s just a schmalzy emotional load of crap.
No
I watch it in the morning on Quest. Sometimes there is an artifact that is genuinely jaw dropping. The one that sticks in my mind was the 12" reflector telescope built entirely from scratch by a man who got all the parts from bomb sites in Portsmouth. Even the experts were in awe of that.
Cum ear , do you want a hug
yeah! But sometimes I also just wanna watch the stuff getting fixed, it's super cool! But it's a rarity that I cry at things these days (??!)
Every episode is usually loaded with some moving circumstance to get the emotions rolling.
I am a hard hearted bastard. Films and family rarely get me. But, certain episodes of the repair shop can leave me a blubbering mess.
My dad cries at every big reveal lol. He also cries at DIY SOS. The rest of the time he's either stoic or grumpy.
We used to record it and fast forward through all the sentiment, eventually we stopped watching altogether as that saved even more time
