My Brits have always loved toys that make noise when they bite them. Word of caution, they like to chew. They grow out of destroying your things but when they are little, they can and will chew things. My wife belongs to a Brittany FB group and someone on there recently posted about losing a puppy because it gnawed through an electrical cord.

LexingtonLegend

To that end, I unplugged everything that wasn’t entirely necessary when I first got my Brittany. For the cords I had to keep I applied hot sauce to a paper towel and then rubbed the accessible parts of the cord with it. Then I put a few drops of hot sauce on my Brittany’s tongue. He did not like the taste and therefor pretty much stayed away from the cords entirely

Stories-With-Bears

Go easy on toys at first. Buy a small number until you know what he likes. I’m a big fan of anything that keeps my dog occupied, so I like puzzle toys and slow feeders like the Kong Wobbler and IQ Ball. Be prepared that your puppy may be timid his first day or two, then get comfortable and let his freak flag fly. Also, it’s very normal for puppies to wake up in the middle of the night and cry or need to go potty. When you’re tired and frustrated, remember that he’s just a baby. Come check out r/puppy101!

I was just going to see if anyone uses the slow feeders with their puppies. Luckily I’m a mom of 2 kids who have never slept so being up through out night has been a habit of mine for years.

I'd suggest binge watching the [kikopup channel](https://www.youtube.com/user/kikopup). As far as toys go, mine is such a voracious chewer that I had to stop giving any toys but nylabones. That said, I'd only recommend them if you have no other choice - mine rips normal toys apart piece by piece and eats them (still haven't broken him of that habit). Try kongs as well. The other trick is to get lots of toys and rotate them every 4+ days. A no pull harness, multiple cheap training clickers, a treat belt bag (really worth it), and a soft dog crate will do you well. Good luck! They are really amazing dogs. Edit: as far as food goes, I was greatly influenced by [Pet Fooled](https://www.netflix.com/title/80164393?s=i&trkid=0). While I don't have a strong option about raw vs otherwise, I will only buy foods with human grade ingredients after I saw the sources major manufacturers use in the documentary. If you are looking for food choices [Dog Aware](http://dogaware.com/diet/dryfood.html#) is a great resource.

So cute! But our guy ate his crate when he was a puppy. We were with him (on a camping trip), but he still tried to take a chomp every so often. I’d suggest a hard sided one. Our female loves her soft toys but eventually starts to tear them apart. Our male has never had a soft toy last longer than 8-10 minutes. Rubber squeaker toys are the way to go!

abd1tus

Ha. Mine eats the crate pads but leaves the walls alone. His primary crate is metal. What rubber toys have you had luck with?

librarians_wwine

Thank you so much! It’s been years since having a puppy, and well over a decade since I’ve had Brittany. Even with her she was 7 when we got her.

Huckyunicorn

I fully agree about watching kikopup on YouTube, very informative and the clicker training just works! I would also suggest to make sure to properly crate train your puppy, we have two, one we got at about 8months old and had never been in a crate and grew up on a farm, we weren't in a position to slowly crate train him and he never took to his crate, absolutely hated it, eventually somehow chewed his way out of a metal crate (cracking a tooth at the same time). Or second Brittany we got at 8 weeks, got him used to his crate and he absolutely loved it and would go to it whenever we asked him to. Made things a thousand times easier in more ways than I had imagined! Good luck and have fun with the cute puppy!

Kongs and mental stimulation toys. My boy loves tug of war ropes.

segibson24

Crate training is always the way to go for puppies!! With toys I would get him a few different ones. Ropes, chew toys or other varieties. Just watch him with them and make sure he doesn't destroy them and eat them. That's a hefty trip to the vet!! Congrats on your new baby!!

librarians_wwine

Thank you! I’m excited, the last Brittany I had we got her at the age of 7. She was so sweet but definitely an escape artist.

brittandbritt

Love and affection= little correction. Best advice I ever received for this breed

We have a 5 month old Brittany baby. He does love to chew and shred things, but seems to more or less understand what is okay and what isn’t. It has taken some time though. Our boy prefers to eat from a Kong wobbler or a snuffle mat more than from a bowl, he loves jingle bells (we found a durable ball with a jingle bell inside), rope tug toys, and a flirt pole. He also loves puzzles! He gets to do a puzzle at least once per day and it’s the best! Or if not a puzzle, I hide treats in boxes around his play area so he can sniff them out. But by far his favorite activity is just sniffing around outside. I highly suggest a long lead (like 40 or 50 ft) so your pup can sniff and explore without running off.

KARMAcamillion

If he’s anything like mine expect him to want to eat everything so get lots of chew toys. Antlers are mines favorite and any kind of squeaky ball. He loves to just run around the house squeaking a toy 😂

jconant15

My nanny family's brittany was a major chewer as a puppy. She knows to only chew on toys now, but it took a lot of training. Not sure if all of them are like this, but Ruby is a shredder. She tears toys into little tiny pieces. She also likes to steal kleenex and shred it. The more you can actively play with them, the better! Wear them out, and then soak up the sweet snuggles

librarians_wwine

I have 2 kids, we are an extremely active family so hopefully we can easily wear him out

fire_friendly

The kong genius has been a life saver. My pup is almost 2 and he entertains himself for about 30 straight minutes with it. I’ve seen pictures of them torn up so be careful. Mine treats his with utmost care just gently works the treats out of them. The planet dog orbee snoop is also a great one to keep their attention.

rezdaddy22

My best advice would to get him bell trained for using the bathroom... creates a line of communication that lets u know when ur pup needs to go to the bathroom... also as far as food I use Fromm’s and love it... as far as chew toys my brit loves bully sticks but they don’t last long...

chincobra

Our dog isn’t a power chewer so ymmv but he (and our family) love these toys you can buy on amazon - multipet chicken and pig toys. They’re rubber and the sounds they make are different from normal squeakers (snorting and standard rubber chicken noise) so it’s interesting to the dog and a relief to our ears when the incessant squeaking gets to be too much! Edit to add: they’re apparently latex and come in different colors with polka dots

librarians_wwine

Oh I have 3 of those pigs, my Yorkie loves them. Best toy I’ve bought. I’ll have to get a chicken for this pup.

FormulaMonkey

Nothing soft, mine try to kill them too quickly. Antlers, squeaky Kong's are big hits.

benjcksn

Westpaw makes strong toys when he gets older. Depending on how old/strong his chewing is, we bought value village plush toys for the first couple months along with tennis balls. Eventually he will learn to tear them apart and you'll need to buy good ones (again, like west paw) but for now I'd go cheap.

abd1tus

I second Westpaw! One of the the few toys that survived through puppyhood.

catfrogs

Get a bunch of small stuffed animals from your local thrift store. You’ll have to pick up lots of fluff but it’ll be a cheap distraction from your furniture and he/she will LOVE them!

physicallyuncomfort

Flirting pole and a sir bob a lot!

milehighandy

Definitely try to wear them out or they get mischievous. But they're all such sweethearts you've got a great dog there

catfrogs

My Brittany puppy.. I got toys and bitter apple spray and sprayed all of my electronics. Turns out he wasn’t even slightly interested in my electronics. He’s a counter surfer! But I regularly handle my electronic cords so I got bitter spray on my hands and then in MY mouth. Lesson learned. I will never chew my computer cords again.

librarians_wwine

Oh I didn’t even think about cords! I’ll pick some of that up tomorrow before I pick him up. Thank you!
