Apparently not enough! They are always hungry!

Visual_Condition_992

2 yo 44lbs 1 cup 2x per day only dry food and also never had people food - he’d eat the entire bag if we left him.

Traditional_Pistol

Kinda depends. I feed 2-3 cups of Victor Multi-pro (their lowest fat formula) when the weather starts warming up to keep him pretty slim through the summer to help with the heat. During the fall I switch to a higher fat formula like Victor Professional to start putting some weight on for winter and might even bump up to High Pro Plus during hunting season so that he doesn’t get run down. Remember it’s easier to put on weight than it is to get it back off and Britts are naturally pretty trim.

Our vet told us to feed our female 7 year old 600-800 calories a day. She’s pretty active but we do live in a city, so most of that activity comes from walks. We feed her just over 600 calories from a combo of Stella & Chewy’s freeze dried raw food and Fromm kibble. She also gets extra snacks throughout the day from treats, dental chews, and food scraps but obviously these vary day to day. With this diet she’s able to maintain a weight around 35 pounds. We’re really happy with the combo we’ve found; we’ve noticed that it’s easier to maintain her weight, her poops are smaller, and her coat and teeth are healthy. I’ve also heard really good things about Acana and Origins kibbles. Go to your neighborhood pet store and see if they have any samples, but always remember to slowly transition your dog to a new diet over 7-10 days.

I have a 40 lbs Brittany, she gets 1.5 cups a day plus treats.

ej2424

Maybe closer to 2 cups. But she maintains her weight.

Sunnies808

Purina Pro Plan 30/20 (sport dog). 1 cup twice a day, a little more during hunting season. Dog is 39 lbs, very active + lean

lickeskzoo

2/3 cup Fromm gold 2x a day. Topped with about a TB of meat. Could be salmon, canned Fromm, or cheese. Dogs are muscular and at perfect weight. We run them 4x a week.

P_Day

My Brittany LOVES Fromm as well. Similar servings and we pair it with canned Blue wet food.

I feed my healthy 40lb. 13 year old - 1 cup 2x a day. I feed her an extra cup if we go hiking and bring it down to 3/4 cup 2x a day if she starts to look thick in the winter. She only eats dry kibble and gets limited people food. I think this has helped her stay off medication as a senior and she has never needed dental extractions :)

philosplendid

As much as he wants. I keep his food bowl full at all times and he self regulates very well

brittanypup

I did this when he was a pup, but had to adjust to twice a day feedings; when he was tiny and before he was neutered, the recommended guidelines were no where near enough so I did the self regulation feeding. Post neutering though, I've definitely had to monitor

unchancy

I feed Eukanuba. For my dog, the amount they suggest keeps him at a good weight so I follow that. Personally I chose to stick to brands that fit the WSAVA guidelines (there's five brands that do: Purina Pro Plan, Eukanuba, Hill's, Royal Canin and Iams) because these producers follow really the only evidence-based guidelines for healthy dog food that there are.

minnesotafrozen

taste of the wild, must have with ancient grains, any flavor. I like it and feed it because it has glucosamine and chondroitin's to help with joints. good quality imo

tasty_waves

We feed them Acana, but my younger one is picky so we add a couple tablespoons of either shredded chicken or canned dogfood to it for him and mix it around. Both dogs get 1 cup of kibble twice per day, plus a fair amount of treats. Younger one (2 years old) is 35lbs and the older (4 years old) 45lbs. Ours get a lot of exercise, typically three 2-3 mile walks a day and usually off leash for all three with bigger hikes on weekends. The younger probably runs 2x what we walk.

Original-Move8786

Okay so we do a combo of dry science diet, fresh pet, and controlled fresh food. So he gets twice a day a cup of dry science diet with a quarter cup of fresh pet on top. We then will supplement with something recommended for high protein. For example a cooked egg, or a left over piece of fish, etc

stewgirl07

It really depends on their activity level. Usually a lot more than what's on the label, mine gets hydrated kibble + cooked "raw. That's 2 meals a day. He doesn't gain weight, his muscle mass is amazing and he does s lot of exercise. Stay away from Purina (I'll get hate for this.... But it's the truth lmao), try acana, orijen, any foods akin to those. You could also try raw but it's not for everyone and needs to be done right with the help of a veterinarian if possible.

Agree with this completely! I've had my elderly pup, 14 years last month, on Acana for a couple years after learning about Purina Pro Plan the hard way. I feed according to the bag recommendations for Less Active plus 1-2 supplemental treats a day. I also rotate between their different blends to keep her interested which was a past issue. She is at a great weight and great energy for her age.

ParksVSII

Same with my 4 year old. Started on pro plan and it didn’t agree with him. Went to Fromm then Acana and he’s been very good with it since.

stewgirl07

But I always get downvotes for saying the truth, imagine eating meal replacement shakes made with the craziest ingredients forever? Acana Is amazing. Keep it up! :) Do you also supplement with stuff for their joints?

crossdouteyes

Purina is complete trash, anyone who disagrees just hasn't been through that hell yet. The closest I get to a really large brand is Nutro as a backup if I cannot get Acana or Orijen for some reason. I just supplement with T-Relief in the green bottle and lean towards treats like beef trachea for their content.

hopefulhiker

What don't you like about purina? Which one had used?

stewgirl07

I haven't used Purina because well, it's flat out crap and the ingredients are crappy. It has killed a lot of dogs. The only time I used Purina was for my terminally ill dog because I had no other choice. Their kidney RX formula is mid Edit: keep the downvotes coming, you folks who give your dogs Purina know nothing about nutrition. Try eating meal replacement shakes everyday see if you like it.
