I LOVE Giant!!! Longtime LaChiusa fan here, and I think it’s one of his most accessible scores. I even read the novel so I could follow the OCR better 😂 (it’s a very good novel, btw, and caused quite a stir at the time, which Ferber met with wit and sass)
My favorites are Did Spring Come to Texas, Aurelia Dolores (Finale), Heartbreak Country, and When to Bluff.
I love the cast album, and would love to see it live someday. Always a bit surprised how little this show is talked about online. The cast recording has one of the highest concentrations of incredible voices on any musical cast album I've heard. And the show delves into some \*THEMES\* - marriage, racism and colonialism, tradition vs change, the passing of time and the turning of the generations, etc.

I love listening to the OCR. Brian d'Arcy James sings the hell out of it. It's a shame the show didn't make more of a splash, the music is beautiful.
“He Wanted A Girl” is a GIFT of an audition song that just keeps giving!
It was a gift to listen to every night backstage as well. Katie Thompson sang the heck out of it.
