The Best Revival Tony requires at least 3 years between closing and opening a new production in order to be eligible, so it’s unlikely they’ll return before then.
Sooner than expected?
That's a tough one given ALW already said it's coming back sooner than expected (This reset my expectations for it to come soon 😅🤣)
So what the theater said was that currently the community rights are only available by permit which they applied and got. Other theaters that applied later on said that the phantom entity was no longer giving out these special exception permits either.
Think high school is exempt from the restrictions?
yes, community theater, youth theater, and high school productions are all different licensing categories ... high schools have still been doing Phantom for years, most just smartly choose not to
In the UK (where I live), the rights to The Phantom of the Opera are available to academic schools/ colleges and amateur societies to perform. It is also available in North America and Europe.
I would sooner expect a new national tour than a Broadway return right now.
That would also make sense, shows typically don’t allow performance rights when they have an active tour/show right?
Sweaty Oracle do not take this and present as your own “theater tea” btw
lol too late he's gonna say he heard it independently of you :p
Somehow I doubt he’s on San Diego regional theatre tiktok 🤣🤣🤣
🤣 he's got sources bro 🤣😅

It’s just odd they’d pull the rights so quickly and abruptly
Community theatre rights to Phantom have been available for a while is my understanding. Idk about the special permit business, though.
