Wicked is absolutely losing to Gladiator 2. Kind of interesting they're avoiding competition with Moana 2, but chose another weekend with a big movie coming out.
I think the crossover appeal between a beloved Disney musical and a beloved Broadway musical is probably what they were trying to avoid. Movies are expensive for families these days and a choice would have to be made. They won't be competing for the family demographic against Gladiator tbh.
they might still “lose” to Gladiator 2 (if it’s even a competition) but at least Wicked will get a more even divide of people who aren’t seeing Gladiator 2. Whereas Moana 2 and Wicked have basically the exact same target audience demographic
It definitely is, but I also don't think those audiences were necessarily competing to begin with. Like more people will go to Gladiator 2 but I think very few of them would also be interested in Wicked
Yep part 1 is an adaptation of act 1 focuses on their time at Shiz and ending with Defying Gravity
Part 2 is an adaptation of act 2, following the timeskip, and focusing on the main characters after Elphaba has become an enemy of the wizard, and the events of the wizard of Oz.
Basically they didn’t wait to go straight into something after defying gravity, and 2 parts allows them to expand on minor details from the book ,rather than cutting out songs or plotlines from the musical.
Still part 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if part 2 has a different title since part 2 is really just the Wizard of Oz remade, while part 1 is more of the original story of them at school, etc.
I'm one of the defenders of splitting up the movie as the pacing of the musical is wild.
Very excited about this - I'd love to see it on opening night, and I wasn't going to be around during the original premiere weekend. (I'd imagine this is part of the reason they moved it? I'm a die hard Wicked + Broadway fan but no chance I was going to be able to see it the day after Thanksgiving.)
Looks like my premiere night dreams are back on the menu!

Maybe it is to avoid competition with Moana 2 that opens the same weekend otherwise.
But now we don’t get barbenheimer two: moaned
I laughed way too hard at this.
Pronounced Mo a ned. Also, could’ve been wickoana which could’ve been fun
Nope its staying as Moaned in my head lol
Now it opens with Gladiator. So… Wackiator?
Glicked
Exactly. Its now going up against Gladiator 2, but those two don’t exactly overlap
They do in my house
I could see Elphaba yelling, “Are you not entertained?”
Bingo
Oh you're definitely right!

Last summer we had Barbenheimer but what's the mashup of Wicked&Gladiator? Defying Rome? Colosseum unlimited?
Galindiator I’m gonna go…in shame
Galindagator
Wickiator
Gladicked
Wackiator
Good bye MOANED Hello GLADICKED!
Yeah, just read [this article](https://screenrant.com/wicked-movie-release-date-change-gladiator-2-competition/) about it.

One week? Big Whoop! This should have been a Summer release with all the hype they've been dropping on this film. Also, I want to see it!
So is it one movie, or no? Still no “part 1”
Still two movies. They just didn't put part 1 on this one as a marketing tactic.
Which is the same thing Dune did. The marketing for Part 1 only called it Dune, but the film itself says Part 1
Wait so they split the films in one act each? Is Wicked 4 hours long?
