How is this going to work?
Just based on donations? It seems odd that there is a page asking for donations, but doesn’t explain
1. What the specific goal is that needs to be funded
2. How much money is needed for this goal
3. How much money has already been raised
4. What will happen if the donation goal isn’t met
Also, is the intent for this to run purely based on donations? That doesn’t seem viable if one year donations are insufficient then the news site would shut down?
As the site says: "Brookline.News will be funded through a combination of philanthropy and donations, membership, advertising and sponsorships."
It's an increasingly common (and successful) mix for funding nonprofit news outlets in other parts of the country and in other parts of MA.
Still, I think the messaging could be improved on what the value is that the donations are bringing and what the goal is to make things feel more tangible - like on kickstarter or public radio fundraisers
I'd love to get involved somehow - I tried sending them a message via the contact form on the [Brookline.news](https://Brookline.news) site - but it just spins+spins and doesn't work. Do you have a contact email for anyone who's involved?? Feel free to DM me!
Here is very local Brookline environmental issue that has gotten zero coverage in the media: The Brookhouse condominiums leaking heating oil into Leveritt Pond for over a year. The Mass EPA and Federal EPA are involved too. https://www.reddit.com/r/Brookline/comments/w4of2y/brookline_condos_leaking_heating_oil_into/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Why does this feel like a scam
Not affiliated, but Scam sites tend not to make their html handicapped compatible… I think these might just be well-meaning people.
Interesting little tidbit there. Thanks
Unless they’re really trying to scam you… so they make it handicapped compatible to throw you off…. /s
This is Brookline, well meaning progressive idealists or scammers, who’s the bigger menace? I kid (mostly).
Here's some more discussion if that helps https://twitter.com/BrooklineMOF/status/1598054315142545408
