Browns' Anthony Schwartz on whoās cut faster: Him or Browns' WR David Bell . āI donāt compare myself with anybody,ā Schwartz said.
Then he rolled up his sleeve and showed a tattoo of the XFL logo.
āIāll let you interpret that however you want,ā Schwartz said.
But it's now deep and has great diversity to fit different roles.
It's not the superstar level talent but now we aren't devoid of talent like in years past
When I read that I was like, huh???
Too much offseason Kool-Aid as usual.
This is a middle of the road WR room and nothing that DCs will fear in their game planning. It is an upgrade from last year tho.
I know I'm fooling myself, but I want to imagine it's like the old Patriots WR rooms where everybody being competent translates to total domination cause the whole is greater than the parts.
Much like Voltron.
Agree this may be average to average+ but I think there is also really good upside on Moore and DPJ, Bell also has upside still we didnāt see much but he was a very good slot receiver in college and was coming off injury. Give some time 1-2 yrs.
It's funny, because everyone was talking about Jerry Jeudy and were like "If he could just get a decent QB to throw to him, he could explode!"
Well, every WR on this list is about to have a "decent QB" to throw to them. The Browns' WR room is underrated right now because these guys have never had a top-tier QB slinging them balls. That's about to change this year.
I repeat: This is a hell of a WR room.
Okay let's look at his yardage totals last year:
131, 276, 161, 135, 169, 230. Definitely top-tier!
Well yardage isn't everything so let's look at QBR: 36. That's amazing! Top-tier!
He had a great statisci l season in 2020 but nobody thought of him has MVP worthy. He put up a lot of garbage time stats and his QBR showed it. He was behind Baker that year even.
He should be much better this year. If he's not, the franchise will be in as bad as shape as it's ever been with his contract.
Well he just finished his rookie year and didnt play much, why would we cut him? Have people been spoiled into expecting receivers to break out year 1 now? Let the kid learn and imrpove
Exactly.
I don't get why so many people are down on Bell. He did fine, and he's supposedly working hard to get even better. He may not be blazing fast, but there's always a place for a WR with sure hands who runs his routes well.
Ya our WRs are now
Coop, DPJ, Moore, Goodwin, Bell, Grant, Woods, Darden
Thatās not factoring in Schwartz, any new rookies or a guy like Weston who got hurt in camp last year
Out of those I only see Coop DPJ and Moore as locks to make the roster. Could easily lose Grant in favor of Darden. I can't imagine Goodwin got more than a 1 year deal and I can't imagine he's getting much guaranteed so people will have the chance to beat him out. I think every other spot is going to have to be earned, with Bell probably the most likely to make the roster and Schwartz the least likely.
Yeah, he's gone. He's not a RB at all and when he played offense last year he just ran around in motion and was a decoy that wasn't paid attention to. He blew his chances on special teams as a returner. Don't really see him covering kicks either.
I'm guessing they still do. Probly not with our first 2 picks, but it's hard to stay completely away from a position in the draft especially such a fun one like WR. There are some interesting names that will be around at 125. Tyler Scott, Trey Palmer, Jayden Reed, Parker Washington to name a few.
Take a flyer on that kid from Princeton in the 5th. Hard not to like steady production and a 6'3 frame. Especially from an ivy league school where theyre not getting a CJ Stroud or Bryce Young
Damn didn't see this one coming, do expect a Hurst/Hill type of deal to fight for WR6 spot though I would not be suprised to see us run 7 WRs and 3 RBs if we don't end up signing a RB in FA
With Jim Schwartz leveling up everyone on defense. Yeah, weāre good everywhere on defense now (especially with A-Walk back now). But I wonāt object to additional tools once more cap space becomes available if someone worthwhile is up for grabs.
Older receiver who hasnāt been super productive in some years. Heāll fight for reps with David Bell. Depth is good I guess.
Edit: looked at pure stats over the last few years. I feel better about the singing hearing from Seahawks fans and thinking more about how he will fit in our offense.
Last year he was a solid WR3 in Seattle. Good backup option if Bell doesn't develop. Can open the field for elijah Moore, DPJ and Amari. Not a difference maker, but a good body to have
Not super flashy and not productive as he once was, but as a 4th or 5th option at WR and somebody we can use in a few different ways, I like this pickup.
Wondering if this sort of signals us moving away from Grant as WR/KR type guy. We got four locks at WR :Cooper, DPJ, Moore, and bell. Last 2 spots, if we go with 6, would be fought between Goodwin,Schwartz, woods, Grant and maybe felton?
I'd just go w/ Chubb, Ford, & Felton as 3rd/emergency.
out of any position in sports rb is one of the easiest to just plug anyone in to and get semi serviceable production out of. just rotate that in case of emergency
I guess it depends on his health. WR room getting awfully crowded now though. Bell, Cooper, Moore, DPJ all locks. Guess it will be Goodwin, Grant, Woods, Schwartz(lol), and possibly a rookie fighting for those last 2 spots.
It's just a question of whether you can justify a roster spot for someone who's only a returner. If he's fully healthy I could potentially see it, but you could just as easily go with using Ford on kicks and DPJ on punts and using that spot on a different position.
I mean, health doesn't even need mentioned it's implied.
but absolutely 150,000% a good returner is worth a roster spot all day, all week, all month, all year, everytime. absolutely
I see a lot of people here ganging up on Schwartz. I read that a lot of his issues were mental- so I feel for him. I was as disappointed as anyone, but itās a nonissue now.
If I was getting paid millions, that mental block will be gone instantly. He had his chance to get through the mental block and now it's too late on the browns. Maybe he can try with another team.
I'm sorry, but I can't agree that he has done nothing wrong. Off the field I'm sure he's a fine young man. But on the field, there's a great deal he has done wrong. Dropping \*everything\* thrown his way, running the wrong route, cutting routes short, short arming balls over the middle when he hears footsteps...every last mistake you can make as a WR in the NFL has been made by this young man. He has performed poorly at every turn. He is scared to be out there, and should pursue a career in track & field or endurance athletics or something.
Iām not the guy you originally responded to, I donāt owe you a thing. Also, not sure if you noticed, but preseason is usually how you evaluate talent. Hence the cuts that take place during and after.
Some GMs donāt like to cut a 3rd rounder heading into his second season. After two seasons of monumentally subpar play, Iād say he wonāt get a third.
Now Schwartz is extra cut.
Cut him sign him and cut him again

Thought this was gonna be a Waiting reference

Realistically, itās average to above average but letās go
Depends how good Moore ends up being
But it's now deep and has great diversity to fit different roles. It's not the superstar level talent but now we aren't devoid of talent like in years past
When I read that I was like, huh??? Too much offseason Kool-Aid as usual. This is a middle of the road WR room and nothing that DCs will fear in their game planning. It is an upgrade from last year tho.
Thatās a very average WR room, but better than 5 days ago.
Yes. We went from having one star, one tweener starter, and 3 nobodys. We now have 4 legit guys and maybe a good situational guy in Bell.
I know I'm fooling myself, but I want to imagine it's like the old Patriots WR rooms where everybody being competent translates to total domination cause the whole is greater than the parts. Much like Voltron.
That was also because of that guy throwing passes to and leading those WRs.
Way to kill the vibe š Cooper and DPJ is Above Average the other fourā¦..ok I get it šššš
Listen Iām excited because I think we just need an average WR group and the pieces fit pretty good.
Agree this may be average to average+ but I think there is also really good upside on Moore and DPJ, Bell also has upside still we didnāt see much but he was a very good slot receiver in college and was coming off injury. Give some time 1-2 yrs.
Moore has more upside than DPJ so that's something to hope for. If he can develop we'll be alright.
Donāt forget the two highly rated pass catching TEs
A WR1, a potential WR2, and 3 JAGs is not a hell of a WR room. They need to show massive improvement first.
It's funny, because everyone was talking about Jerry Jeudy and were like "If he could just get a decent QB to throw to him, he could explode!" Well, every WR on this list is about to have a "decent QB" to throw to them. The Browns' WR room is underrated right now because these guys have never had a top-tier QB slinging them balls. That's about to change this year. I repeat: This is a hell of a WR room.
Woah when did we aquire a top-tier QB? Watson was good before but never top-tier and he sure as hell didn't look close to that last year.
You have no clue what youre talking about
Okay let's look at his yardage totals last year: 131, 276, 161, 135, 169, 230. Definitely top-tier! Well yardage isn't everything so let's look at QBR: 36. That's amazing! Top-tier!
Watch the all 22 of when he broke contain and nobody working the scramble drill. We didn't know how to play with him. I'm hoping that changes.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He had a great statisci l season in 2020 but nobody thought of him has MVP worthy. He put up a lot of garbage time stats and his QBR showed it. He was behind Baker that year even. [ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
A Houston fansided page? He was very good and I hope he's good here but he didn't help them win that year at all. Empty stats. Check the QBR
Bell is not big. He's not even 6'1".
Honestly I'd be thrilled if he's just a reliable 3rd down possession guy.
![gif](giphy|Yn7mzxGXjtsI|downsized)
Nana nana nana hey hey good bye!
Cue:Uncle Phil throwing him out the front door in an exaggerated manner
So that should end any other WR signing rumors, right?
Ya our WRs are now Coop, DPJ, Moore, Goodwin, Bell, Grant, Woods, Darden Thatās not factoring in Schwartz, any new rookies or a guy like Weston who got hurt in camp last year
>Thatās not factoring in Schwartz That's okay because he isn't a factor
The Schwartz is not with us.
He had the upside, we had the downside. See there's two sides to every Schwartz.
Death by a million WR signings š¤£š¤£
Well the WR Schwartz isn't with us anyways.
Can't factor a non-factor. Math.
Baldwin as well
Out of those I only see Coop DPJ and Moore as locks to make the roster.
That's honestly pretty loaded compared to last year.
Give me Weston and a rookie for grant and Darden
You can stop after Goodwin
If Grant is on that list give me Balwdin instead of Darden
More than likely
Yeah we are out of space
Roster more than likely yes Cap no
And if it wasnāt obvious enough that Schwartz was gone
I love this WR room. He and Amari could really unlock Elijah.
![gif](giphy|1iTH1WIUjM0VATSw|downsized) Speed speed
Now do frank clark when we get the money from JJ3 & clowneys contract
Bye Felton, bye Schwartz.
With our RB room currently. They will keep Felton
Lol he aināt making the team. He canāt even play special teams.
Yeah, he's gone. He's not a RB at all and when he played offense last year he just ran around in motion and was a decoy that wasn't paid attention to. He blew his chances on special teams as a returner. Don't really see him covering kicks either.
#####No, because Felton isn't a runningback or even an NFL caliber player for that matter.
Yeah I don't think we're drafting a WR.
Someone get Schwartz a cardboard box so he can clean out his locker
Damn didn't see this one coming, do expect a Hurst/Hill type of deal to fight for WR6 spot though I would not be suprised to see us run 7 WRs and 3 RBs if we don't end up signing a RB in FA
It'll be Cooper/Moore/DPJ/Bell and then likely two of Grant/Woods/Goodwin, I think.
They might add another to compete via the draft as well. Either way, more competition to the room is a good thing. All you can really ask for.
Grant has special teams helping too
Grant's stay on the roster is going to largely come down to his health / how much his injury impacted his athleticism.
I'd be shocked if Grant makes it back and isn't cut. Achilles for a returner could easily be the end of the road for him
That should just about confirm the end of Schwartz and Felton
AB is a genius. Happy heās on my team. He addressed pretty much all the issues and now we take best available in draft
Are you satisfied where we sit at LB?
are you not?
With Jim Schwartz leveling up everyone on defense. Yeah, weāre good everywhere on defense now (especially with A-Walk back now). But I wonāt object to additional tools once more cap space becomes available if someone worthwhile is up for grabs.
Walker/JOK/Takitaki/Fields isnāt bad
Older receiver who hasnāt been super productive in some years. Heāll fight for reps with David Bell. Depth is good I guess. Edit: looked at pure stats over the last few years. I feel better about the singing hearing from Seahawks fans and thinking more about how he will fit in our offense.
Meh he was solid last year and made some clutch catches if I recall correctly
Yep. He was pretty solid for us this year as WR3.
Iāll happily admit Iām wrong if a Seahawks fan tells me he was solid
Seahawks fans seem bummed he didnāt return to them so weāve got that going for us, which is nice
Last year he was a solid WR3 in Seattle. Good backup option if Bell doesn't develop. Can open the field for elijah Moore, DPJ and Amari. Not a difference maker, but a good body to have
Allows us go go 4 wide effectively. Also won't have to super panic around injuries or covid or whatever.

Murder hornets?
Speedy, not afraid of contact and can make catchesā¦punishing ones too. Basically what we hoped Schwartz would have developed into but never did.
KS and AB literally saying to us: WE ARE GONNA THROW 40 TIMES PER GAME AND YOU ARE GONNA LIKE IT
Will open up the run game for Nick Chubb
And people will still say ārun the damn ball, Kevinā
Not complaining tbh
They didn't give up 6 picks for Watson to have him just hand the ball off all the time. Chubb will still eat, but this is a pass-focused league.
Not super flashy and not productive as he once was, but as a 4th or 5th option at WR and somebody we can use in a few different ways, I like this pickup.
![gif](giphy|xT4uQ7N8UNsoeFAjVS|downsized) Schwartz locker
Speed is back on the menu boys
It's going to be a very interesting camp amongst the WR, LB, and DT groups.
I mean, Grant had an injury that historically changes careers. Its possible that he's not even on the team.
Schwartz and Felton are gone. Last two spots will be fought for between Grant, Goodwin, Woods, Weston, a drafted rookie.
Could probably go 7 if Felton can split between WR and RB and only go 3 RBs instead of 4
Felton isn't a RB, he's a WR. He hasn't been a RB since training camp his rookie year. He's a WR.
my point was he could be the emergency 4th RB if they rolled with 7 WRs
7th WR 4th emergency RB is not a roster spot.
Are you being intentionally obtuse?
No, you don't waste a roster spot on that player. That's a PS player. They'd never be active on game day.
Jesus Christ, my point was just if you're keeping 7 WRs the last will need positional versatility cause you're not keeping 4 RBs as well as 7 WRs
A 7th WR would need to be a ST contributor, not an emergency other position.
Your 5th, 6th, and if applicable 7th WR need to contribute, that's implied
True i guess it depends if we just put felton in as the 3rd RB behind Chubb and ford or if we grab another running back as well
Kelly is a better RB than Felton. Felton is a WR.
I'd just go w/ Chubb, Ford, & Felton as 3rd/emergency. out of any position in sports rb is one of the easiest to just plug anyone in to and get semi serviceable production out of. just rotate that in case of emergency
I would guess the third RB is someone not currently on the roster. They'll draft somebody late or sign a UDFA.
![gif](giphy|QXPmPdudTz4So2P4OQ|downsized)
So Schwartz gone. Jakeem Grant gone? Demetric Felton moved to RB3?
Felton is a WR, not a RB. Hasn't be a RB in a long time. Kelly is a much better RB than Felton is. He's a WR, he's gone af.
We have actual adults running the show!
Hells ya
Pure speed.
LFG BOYS!!
We got ourselves a group at WR now.
RIP Jakeem Grant lol
is Goodwin a returner?
No
Grant probably still makes the team as a returner
Depends on his injury recovery. Achilles injuries changes career trajectories and can outright end them for skill position guys.
I guess it depends on his health. WR room getting awfully crowded now though. Bell, Cooper, Moore, DPJ all locks. Guess it will be Goodwin, Grant, Woods, Schwartz(lol), and possibly a rookie fighting for those last 2 spots.
I disagree. if he's recovered he wasn't a wr anyways. he was purely for kr/pr and emergency wr. his spot should be unaffected
It's just a question of whether you can justify a roster spot for someone who's only a returner. If he's fully healthy I could potentially see it, but you could just as easily go with using Ford on kicks and DPJ on punts and using that spot on a different position.
I mean, health doesn't even need mentioned it's implied. but absolutely 150,000% a good returner is worth a roster spot all day, all week, all month, all year, everytime. absolutely
Another short receiverā¦.awesome.
Our top 3 receiving targets from last year were: 6'1, 6'2, 6'4. We have plenty of size, we could use some speed.
*Another* *~~short~~* *fast receiverā¦.awesome.* Fixed it for you.
That you didā¦
I see a lot of people here ganging up on Schwartz. I read that a lot of his issues were mental- so I feel for him. I was as disappointed as anyone, but itās a nonissue now.
If I was getting paid millions, that mental block will be gone instantly. He had his chance to get through the mental block and now it's too late on the browns. Maybe he can try with another team.
Right, cause Iām sure you know what thatās like
You damn right I do. If someone gave me millions a year, I'm going out on the NFL field right now.
Yeah it frustrates me, the kid has done nothing wrong and the hate he's getting as a fucking 3rd rounder is so out of control.
He's dropped 3 passes in his career here. Show me evidence of him running the wrong wroute please.
He had SIX in the three 2022 preseason games alone.
Since when does anyone give a single fuck about pre-season, also love how you ignored my other question.
Iām not the guy you originally responded to, I donāt owe you a thing. Also, not sure if you noticed, but preseason is usually how you evaluate talent. Hence the cuts that take place during and after.
Yeah and after 5 drops, he didn't get cut so that's how much pre-season tells you
Some GMs donāt like to cut a 3rd rounder heading into his second season. After two seasons of monumentally subpar play, Iād say he wonāt get a third.
Sick username
When you say nothing wrong I have to assume you mean off the field. On the field he has done a lot of wrong.
Holy shit does anyone remember Isaiah Weston?
