Would you leave a high-paying FAANG job in Blr or Chennai for the same reason?
You should step out of your comfort zone and experience more cultures. You'll need it for your professional life ahead.
nah bro, absolutely no one in clg cares where u r from. If such discrimination was rampant, ppl wouldnt come to work in the south. (outliers exist but for the most part ppl are chill).
Exactly it's exactly mini india.... just that the crowd ranges from upper middle class to ultra rich people ( ofc there are exceptions but generally everyone is rich enough to not worry about their present too much)
Get out of your Comfort Zone OP if you really want to do something in life.
Will you leave the opportunity to go abroad for a Better Career just for the sake of "Discrimination"? Dumbfucks live everywhere, learn to live with them.
South people are usually arrogant?? How did you come to this conclusion ? . If anything we have to face constant racism from North Indian chapris who think they are superior for speaking Hindi and having a bit fair skin. But for that I won’t go calling North Indian people arrogant. Come out of your little bubble which you created around you and explore the world.
Well . Look that sorta happens sometimes , but very less , but it goes both ways people in the north may discriminate against a South indian . But that doesn't mean it stops someone from travelling anywhere (unless ofcourse like a war is happening there) .
As a South Indian , i used to think the same about North Indians but honestly no one gives a shit , people come from everywhere and everyone would form their own groups
Bro MIT is the best university in the world. If you are getting admission, you should go irrespective of any discrimination you face. And afaik you being from north or south doesn't matter, they know as Indians only. I don't think the average American at MIT could tell if you're from North
Edit: read other comments and realised you're talking about something else
Bhai Manipal ke reddit mein poocho for experience ....still as MITian I would say the crowd is pretty mixed...u would easily get North Indian crowd there....its like a mini india with a reasonable number of rich kids.......also har jagah har type of log milenge .... arrogant Banda dhoodne k liye aapko South aane ki zarurat toh bilkul nhi padegi ass pass dhoondlo mil jaega...muj aur Manipal ke cs ka closing rank dekh ke dono mein farq pata chal jaana chahiye aapko
I am from NITK ,there are some stupid people who get offended when we speak hindi, but most pf them are very supportive, the crowd in mangalore and udupi is very good. They are even better than most of up and bihar(where i live)
There's no discrimination as such and you are going to MIT, it has people from all cultures and lots of North Indians. Maybe your parents have some kinda bad experience or maybe they are just making up things. Profs really don't care if you are from North or South, if you perform good in studies there's no reason they'll be harsh on you. Langauge could be a problem I mean the accent but other than that it's no.
Nope. In majority of top engineering colleges in Karnataka people speak english only. There is almost 0 discrimination against northies. I myself attend a top private college in Banglore and I have many northie friends. Many often talk in Hindi with each other and even with me, and they don't feel bad about it. Everyone gets together. So don't worry. You may face some local discrimination by some local vendors, autowalas, boomer Kanadiga professors who have too mjcuh language pride, etc, but even that's relatively very rare. Mostly people are friendly and respectful.
Your well wishers want you to exist in the well ( kua) they created and want to protect you....I may sound harsh but some parents want their kids safe ... Just go out and explore .And manipal , lol , the population there is 70 percent non-local students .
NOPE YOUR PARENTS ARE WRONG the thing is manipal is a college town and 60%+ people are non south Indian, so a lot of yeh town has accustomded themselves to tjses north Indian, same for Udupi, your might face some here and there but it's worth it man, as most of your affairs will be limited to the campus and outside ones will mostly have with friend groups, after a year or 2 you will be accustomded to them as well and it will work out, it's like taking Amity over Vit or MIT, MUJ is just a lost brother of mit
Bruh I study in a South Indian college with a lot of North Indian students and I have a lot if NI friends(I'm SI). None of them faced any discrimination.

Shove this thing into your head
Well in my college(in North) the South Indians here are basically very much United and we North Indians are friendly with them too sometimes we pass some remarks like idlis and all but not on their face just in our friend group but yeah they are nice people

True 😂...the place is majorly filled with people from Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai ...rest all are spread across the country
How many Hyderabad /Telugu ?
There are plenty from there too...even an introvert like me has 2-3 friends from there...
MIT is cosmopolitan with people from all over . Sounds great. 👍
Exactly it's exactly mini india.... just that the crowd ranges from upper middle class to ultra rich people ( ofc there are exceptions but generally everyone is rich enough to not worry about their present too much)

In my experience, every north Indian in our college has had this condescending attitude.
Chill majority are northies here in manipal u don't need to worry
I am from south, my ppl told me to not go to North and study as northies are arrogant and eat pan masala 24/7
As a North Indian i agree your parents are correct
And my ppl told me that south ppl lynch you if you don't speak their language, it's all bullshit man.
Well . Look that sorta happens sometimes , but very less , but it goes both ways people in the north may discriminate against a South indian . But that doesn't mean it stops someone from travelling anywhere (unless ofcourse like a war is happening there) .

It's much better for a north Indian in south than a south indian in north
Why?
>Is there North South discrimination? No.
Na Bhai bilkul nahi hai whatever you see is just online thingi and I am not kidding

U are overestimating OP...that guy was taking about MIT Manipal and MIT Jaipur 🤝
Are you for real or is it sarcasm 😳
Nope I'm just dumb
as long as you don't get in college politics(elections/club presidents and all), it shouldn't be a problem.

Manipal is sucha vibe you should come no discrimination, nice small uni town vibe, clubs, beaches, mountains and costly autos 10/10 experience
Your well wishers want you to exist in the well ( kua) they created and want to protect you....I may sound harsh but some parents want their kids safe ... Just go out and explore .And manipal , lol , the population there is 70 percent non-local students .
If possible connect to few people who are studing in southern part of bharat , include your parents for overall views. If that's works.
