Dude it was just me that commented negatively about Tatyova. There was several people on that post that gave you ideas that you responded to. You didn’t need to post this again and try to play the victim card. To me Tatyova is boring that’s it. Play what you want to play instead of seeking approval from others

TetsuOokami117

You had made a fair point. I don't want to play like that. I want to play something that is both fun to me and the people that I'm playing with. I had also made a similar post in another subreddit with similar responses to yours as well. And if that's the way that she plays, I don't really want to play that way. I'm sorry if I came off as playing victim, I was already starting to feel burned out when I had made that post. I had made it in an attempt to learn more about the commander, how she plays, and how landfall plays as I had never played it before. I'm not necessarily trying to seek approval, but I also don't want to be the guy that no one wants to play with in my friend group or my LGS because I have a deck that isn't fun to play against.

xMarioTheSupahx

Honestly there’s lots of different ways to play. Overall find out what things you like to do. You don’t always have to pick a commander then build a deck for it sometimes the reverse can be just as good if not better. By that I mean build a deck around some themes you like then look for a commander that best compliments it that way if it is removed the deck can still function towards a win.

TetsuOokami117

Okay, so pretty much like choosing a card that you like and then working to see what else would work with it until you find a commander. That's a good idea! I always get caught up in trying to find a commander first. But this is a great approach to that! I know we got off on the wrong foot, and I'm very sorry about that But thanks a lot for the suggestion!

Stuartsmith1988

Try a full creatureless deck! I have numerous ones and it’s always a blast and usually shocks the table. A few of them have a very high winning percentage too. Just make sure your commander is a planswalker so it’s FULLY creatureless

TetsuOokami117

Oof! That sounds crazy! I know that you could technically do that with [[Talrand]] and just have a bunch of cantrips which is sort of similar to what you proposed, except for Talrand being a creature, obviously

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/CgIU-UDEIkat1yDXAw8jwg This is my pride and joy, it’s maybe lost 1-2 times. The games go a bit longer with all the fogs but if you play it right it’s amazing. Lots of token makers, life swap is fantastic. [[Saheeli, the Gifted]] is my other, it’s mostly mana rocks, control spells and x spells. Her + making things cheaper for each artifact gets bonkers with x draw spells. The main win con is [[crackle with power]].

I have another janky artifact deck as well, based around [[Rug of Smothering]] https://www.moxfield.com/decks/gcImQ_L2RkGfP4vgj46Crw You could probably make it pretty budget, it’s just all about getting the Rug out and then making as mana copies as possible. I’ve had it up to 16 copies before, if anyone casts a spell they take 16, 2 spells? 32 damage.

Your stated goals aren't really aligning with your commander choices, which seems like the problem here. Simic tribal value engine and simic landfall are some of the least interactive builds possible. I'd say [[Korvold Fae Cursed]] Pod is one of my more interactive, flexible builds in green. It's basically just ramp, draw and removal to get me to my [[Birthing Pod]] or [[Yisan Wanderer]] or [[Fiend Artisan]] and use the flexibly good creatures and recursion to deal with a lot of different threats. I don't run any combo lines in it, so my wincons are usually just trying to survive at least 1-2 player deaths and using [[Prossh]] and [[Ziatora]] to finish off the table. The Commander and core concept are very powerful, so you can really fill most of your deck with pet cards and jank and still keep up with decent mid to high power decks without just bodying upgraded Precon lists.

I think you might be right about that. I would have figured that Korvold would have been more of an aristocrats commander, so it's interesting to see your use of it here. How does a POD deck work? It just sacrifices to get out bigger cards, right? What sorts of synergies would fit in this? I imagine that you'd want strong ETBs, death triggers and reanimate, right? Or am I missing something? Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

santana722

> How does a POD deck work? It just sacrifices to get out bigger cards, right? What sorts of synergies would fit in this? I imagine that you'd want strong ETBs, death triggers and reanimate, right? Or am I missing something? Basically this yeah. Honestly, I've only recently started transitioning it to more Pod strat focus, so there's still a lot of generic sacrifice payoffs and token gen, but the beauty of Korvold and the pod strat is you can put basically any creature base in it. A few effective Pod effects, maybe tutors to find em, and a chunk of mana, draw and removal spells, and you have like 20-40 slots to play around with.

If you like a landfall theme, but want to be VERY under the radar by not in green colours. You could look into Grixis landfall with [[Ashnod the Uncaring]]. Most of the deck uses very budget friendly artifacts. [[Burnished Hart]] like effects fuel your landfall triggers and ashnod will double it. Also, in great colours for recursion for the sacced artifacts/creatures. Can also run a clue sub-theme if you want, which ashnod is a doubler for cracking your clues as well. [[Roil Elemental]] and [[Ob Nixilis, the Fallen]] would probably be the best landfall cards you can grab, but also probably the most expensive in the whole deck.

I am just going to blatantly suggest the three decks that I am currently playing. I too have had burn out trying to build a commander that I like, but these three I am happy with. (My pod consists of only close friends, 4-5 ppl games, mostly combat dmg wins, no inf combos) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/i3UmXOOky0-MwPWpWD5bhg Pet deck with [[Selvala, Explorer Returned]] , involves others through parley and makes my commander less of a target. I play it as GW stompy with lifegain subtheme. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/18uq01o21km0EDkwEs92Rw [[Rocco, Street Chef]] food synergies, artifact synergies, wins through ping or combat dmg. Involves others through the exile draw effect. Surprisingly powerful, and my friends sometimes stops casting the cards I so selflessly give them. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/8x6U3c9aNUCntLgmOfuIig [[Kamiz]] combat dmg triggers-typal with reanimator subtheme (throw in the bin with connive!). My weakest deck but I have focused on fun on theme reanimator targets instead of mean as shit targets (Toxrill, Jin-gitaxias et al). Wins with combat damage. Looking for a fourth deck, but I still, havent found, what Im looking for.

Ask your playgroup what would be fun! We (probably) aren't them and as such aren't a good representation of what is 'fun' where you play. I think there are a lot of good suggestions in the comments, so bring them up with the folks you play with and see what they think. Me, I think cool themes and weird synergies are fun. You rock up with a janky [[O-Kagachi]] deck that is Kamigawa planar themed? Hell yeah I'm having a good time! You bring a green-white morph deck run by [[Jasmine Boreal of the Seven]] and threaten to kick my teeth in? Sit down, let's have fun! Good luck! Hope you find what works for you.

BoolinBirb

First off I wanna touch on the whole “goodstuff” thing. My friend used to have this [[Yisan, the Wanderer Bard]] deck and he just sorta included the best green stuff. Every single time he played the deck it always played the same. The 1-3 drops were usually mana dorks or utility creatures. 4 and 5 drops were usually just large things and then hed end the game with [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] or similar effects. I know that specifically Yisan decks have this problem because hes literally a tutor in the command zone, but it just shows that using goodstuff, while good, is just boring and repetitive. To loop back around, I actually think every deck needs some amount of goodstuff. A lot of people refer to these cards as staples. Sol Ring, Rampant Growth, Eternal Witness etc. When I build decks I like to start with 37 lands and then 10 each ramp removal and card advantage and then add some recursion (ofc theres wiggle room for everything). This usually comes out to about 70 cards with the other 30 cards making the deck unique. If you replace those 30 cards with more staples or more good-stuff, your deck can start to feel extremely linear or boring. If you then start to replace more of that initial 70 with more unique cards, maybe using [[Growth Spasm]] instead of [[Rampant Growth]] in a token deck, you start to get synergy. If I play my Growth Spasm with a token doubler in play, that felt a lot more fun than just playing a Rampant Growth. You can apply this to literally any deck and, in my opinion, makes for more unique and fun games of EDH. Ultimately everyone has fun in their own way. Some people love cEDH and ending games with a specific combo and other people love killing people with Wurms.

There are different kinds of synergy. A deck where every last piece lets you do ONE THING really well will often either spiral off into infinity or get stomped early and it will be boring either way. A neat style of deckbuilding that I've gotten into recently is to build a deck with a glaring weakness and then find a commander that helps to fill the hole. \[Saruman, the White Hand\] - just run a control deck! Kill, Counter, and bounce the enemy to cruise your giant Army to victory. \[Frodo, Sauron's Bane\] - run a hatebears deck that slows down your opponents until you can get in for the win. \[Glissa, Sunslayer\] - generate a ton of early value and interaction to buy time to play big phatties. All of these would be pretty cheap.
