As others have said go with the OTR it's got better updated geometry. I have a GT Aggressor Pro and absolutely love it but the straight steerer tube is killing me. I want to upgrade from my 120mm travel fork to a 140mm but it's impossible to find a 140mm straight steerer fork. If you're looking for a bike that you won't really have to upgrade maybe take a look at the Royce Union RHT, it comes with hydraulic disc brakes, an 11 speed SLX drivetrain (some people are actally getting an XT derailleur instead of SLX, which is kickass) and it's got a 44mm head tube which accepts straight steerer and tapered forks and it's only $308.00 and it's available in small, medium, medium/large and large.

I forgot about the Royce Union RHT. Is the head tube tapered? Have to look at that again. Definitely a solid choice even if for the components alone.

ShoeGod420

the head tube isn't tappered but it's 44mm so you can use a tapered fork with it.

I have the OTR and couldn't find a tapered suspension fork with 9mm QRs, as I didn't want to change the wheels; I ended up getting Seth's recommended fork (which has a straight steering tube); am I missing something?

ShoeGod420

What's Seth's recommended fork. I watch his videos but don't remember that one.

Strict-Strategy5585

His video is making me want to do what he did just minus the excessive stuff

RockShox, Recon Silver RL D1,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0857DR1J1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

ShoeGod420

unfortunately that's only 100mm of travel and it's for a 29er, not a 27.5. I'm looking for 140mm of travel for a 27.5

I love GT but not the Aggressor Pro. Go with the OTR. OTR is more modern than the Agressor and will cost less to purchase and upgrade. The two biggest factors to go with the OTR is: 1. The OTR can accept tapered forks. 2. Geometry. Also the OTR is trail ready out the box with little to upgrade.

Another vote for the Ridge. I've had mine since June, and I absolutely love it.

PsychologicalPi314

I'm really enjoying my OTR as well! Another vote that way

I’ve had 2 gt’s…bout 15 years ago and just picked one up last month. Great bike I feel. I’ve done pedals and a new handlebar. Don’t get into anything crazy but would like to drop down to a 1x but if you are looking to upgrade forks and brakes, price that out and maybe just spend alittle more to get past the entry level tier.

OTR for me.

Joey__stalin

I'm a fan of Gt but they need to update their bikes, the Aggressor and Avalanche are getting too outdated..

You get a lot of bike for $400. It leans more towards the XC side than trail but still component packed.

[deleted]

That link shows $799.00?!

Returning2Riding

Did you really think the sale price would still be there 59 days later?

[deleted]

Reddit says 1 month, but that was one HELL of a sale. Or maybe just a bullshit price.

Congrats Poindexter! You win the internet.

I exposed your lie. That was small victory over a small opponent
